13. Friends come and go.

Alessia's POV:

"I just can't believe you right now." I said rubbing my temples heavily. Amber scoffed and shoved some soup down her throat.

"I can't believe you are taking their sides!" She snapped back.

"Sides? Amber this isn't about sides! It's the fact that you did that to your friend." I was talking to her about Reign, and well, it turned into a argument faster then I had hoped.

"My friend?"

"Yes Amber, your friend. Your friend since your freshman year!" I said. "You know how much she liked Ryan! You knew."

"Yeah, well it's not my fault he didn't like her back." She said shrugging her shoulders.

"Really? What's happened to you? You weren't like this! You've become such a..."

"Bitch?" She said. "I'm not the bitch here. Your the one accusing your 'bestfriend' of being a bad friend. And you say I've changed? Look at you. I thought you didn't like Harry freaking Styles, but now you just can't get enough of him huh? News flash. When people come into your life, you don't expect it most of the time. I didn't expect Ryan to pop up and swoop me off my feet. But it happened Alessia, it happened." I was shocked at what she said. How could she be so bitchy?

"He's just going to use you Amber." I said in a calmer tone.

"HA!" She said throwing her head back, maniacally laughing. "Use Me? Check yourself hun. Harry Styles is the biggest man whore in this whole school. If anybody is getting used, it's you." She said smugly. I looked down at the ground and a million thoughts flowed through my brain. What if Harry is just using me until I finally... give in. What if he doesn't care about me? What if this whole time it's been a game to see when he could finally snatch me up? "Judging by your silence, you know I'm right. Just don't come crying to me when it happens." She rose from the table we were at and threw her lunch away, strutting towards the table that Ryan and other jock assholes sat at. I slowly got up and threw my trash away and walked away to be alone.

What if Amber was right? No. No, I can't think that. If I think it, then it will become reality. I need to keep positive thoughts, positive.

"Alessia." A familiar voice called down the hallway. I turn to see Liam walking towards me with Harry right by his side.

"Hey." I said, wrapping my purse higher up on my shoulder.

"Where were you during lunch?" Harry asked wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me into him.

"Oh, nowhere." I said shrugging his question off. There was a pause as I waited for him to say something, but he never said anything.

"You see Brandon today?" Liam asked. I nodded no. "Good thing, you'd probably be scared if you did."

"What? Why what happened?" I asked.

"Apparently he 'fell' and got a black eye, a cut on his cheek, and a busted lip. But I'm not buying it." Liam said shaking his head back and forth with pursed lips.

We continued to walk down the halls just talking about a bunch of nothings. The bell rang indicating class was about to start.

"Hey Liam, you can go on without me. I'm going to walk Lessie to class." Harry said. Liam nodded and waved goodbye to us.

"You don't have to walk me if you don't want." I said. He gave me a funny look before giving me a sly smile.

"Why wouldn't I want to?" I shrugged. We walked down the halls filled with kids, and I couldn't stop thinking about what Amber told me.

"Harry..." I said, stopping him from walking. He turned in front of me and stood above me, peering down on me with his beautiful green eyes.

"Yes love?" I almost cringed when he said the word "love."

"I'm not just, one of your... flings am I?" I asked, chewing my lip nervously. He scrunched his eyebrows and got wrinkles in his forehead.

"Of course not. Is that why you've been so down?" He asked wrapping his arms around my waist. "Don't ever worry love, I like you. And I'm going to prove it to you, Thursday. On Valentine's Day." He said kissing the top of my head.

"Prove it?" I asked.

"Yes. I'm going to show you how much I care about you."

"How?"

"It's a surprise." He smirked when I looked up at him. The late bell rang, indicating that we were both tardy.

"Dang, I'm late!" I said untangling myself from Harry. Before I got to far he got hold of my arm and pulled me back. He pressed his plump lips lightly against mine before he let go. I was mesmerized and couldn't seem to move. "See you later." He said and turned on his heel walking casually to class, not caring that he was late. I put my fingers on my lip and smiled to myself. Maybe Harry really did like me, maybe he did actually have real feelings for me. Positive thinking Alessia, positive thinking.

Liam's POV:

"Down. Up. Down." Our Rugby coach yelled as we finished up our end of the day exercises. I easily pushed myself up and down, maintaing a steady pace. Our coach blew his whistle and dismissed us to the locker rooms to change and shower up.

I walked in the locker room and saw the team getting changed, some headed for the shower. I went to my locker and took out my bag of clothes to change into. I heard many of the conversations in the locker room, but my ear perked up to something. Someone, a familiar voice.

"Yeah man, I snagged her up." Ryan's arrogant voice boomed. I angrily stripped out of my clothes and quickly wrapped a towel around my waist. I walked past Ryan and his group of friends, as I walked by they looked my direction and laughed among themselves. I ignored them, but that didn't stop my blood from boiling. Once I was in the shower stall, I walked in between the shower walls and turned the shower on the hottest temperature possible. The shower fell on my head, making my hair stick in strands against my forehead. It trailed down my body, relieving me of some of the tension I was feeling.

I took the soap and lathered myself up. I stood, aiming the shower head directly under me and stood there with my hands against the wall. The water helped calm me down, it was like a gateway for me. A gateway for me to forget everything that upset me. Everything that mattered. It was just me, and solitude. I slowly reached for the knob and turned the shower completely off, watching the droplets of water fall from my hair and my body.

I dried off and wrapped my towel back around me. I walked back in there and to my surprise the locker room was empty. I pull my clothes out of my bag and change into them. I stuff my dirty clothes back into my gym bag and walked out of the locker room. I walked back out towards the fields, it would be easier that way to get to the parking lot. I walked onto the field and saw Ryan and his friends chilling in the stands. I tried to walk past without being detected, but to no avail.

"Payne!" I heard Shane yell ushering me over. I reluctantly turned and walked over to the stands where they were sitting.

"What's up?" I asked trying to keep my cool.

"Why you been avoiding us lately?" He said nodding his head towards Ryan and the rest of the group.

"I don't know what your talking about." He chuckled a little before leaning forward.

"You've kept to yourself, been hanging with curly cue. And that one blonde haired faggot." My fist clenched my bag, turning my knuckles white.

"His name is Brandon." I said sternly. They all laughed, they thought this was funny.

"I don't care what his name is Payne." Shane said, mockingly. "But seriously, why you ditch us huh? Is it cause Ryan snagged up your girl?" He said smirking at me. I looked at Ryan and saw him smiling victoriously, he was just eating this up.

"She wasn't my girl." I said through my gritted teeth.

"Damn right she wasn't, cause she sure ran on to Ryan instead of little Liam Payne." I bit my lip, forcing myself to calm down. I closed my eyes tightly and breathed in and out. "Is little Payne getting upset?" Shane said rising up from his seat. I dropped my backpack on the green turf beneath me.

"Don't start with me Shane." I said sharply.

"Oh, Payne's getting angry mates." He said laughing. "I guess I'll have to teach him a little lesson like I taught his friend." He said  stepping down from the stand. My friend? Who'd he beat... Brandon! He's the reason Brandon's face was so scarred. That prick! Why would he do such a damn thing?

"You? You beat up Brandon!? Why! What did he do to you?" I said getting in his face.

"Yeah." He said pushing me back. "What are you gonna do it about it Payne?" He said. I brought my arm back and swung my fist connecting right with his cheek. He retaliated with a fist in my gut and then punching me square in my jaw. I almost fell before I caught myself and tackled him to the ground.

"GET UP SHANE."

"DON'T LET HIM GET YOU MAN, COME ON." Everyone was yelling for Shane to get on top of me, or to not let me get so many hits on him. But it was to late for that. I was on top of him and throwing punches back and forth. I felt a strong pair of arms wrap around mine before I threw my fist back down.

"Payne! That's enough." I heard the coach's voice say before he snatched me of off him. He pushed me back as Ryan and some others helped Shane up. "That's the last straw Payne! Your OFF the team! Understand me? This is your last straw." He said pointing his finger in my face and yelling to the top of my lungs.

"Coach! You don't even know what happened!" I said, yelling back at him. I was so mad, there was no way I was going to take anyone yelling at me, even if it was a grown man.

"I saw enough to know that you've blown your last chance on the rugby team. Now get outta here!" He said pointing to the parking lot. I picked up my bag and walked away. I overheard Ryan and them saying I jumped Shane, absolute bullshit.

I made it to the parking lot. I had to call somebody to get me, I had to options my parents or Harry. I didn't want to call Harry. So I rang my home.

"Hello?" My mum answered after a few rings.

"Can you come get me." I said more then a statement, then a question.

"What's wrong babe?" She asked concerned.

"I just... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." I said, trying not to break out into sobs.

"What did you do baby?" She asked. I sniffed a little bit and allowed a stray tear to glide down my cheek before fighting back the others. "Liam, talk to me!" She said.

"I got kicked of the team mum... I got in a fight." I said. There was silence on the other line. "Your father and I are coming to get you right now okay?" She said, I heard keys jangling in the background and my father saying something that I couldn't make out.

"Alright." I said.

"I love you sweetie." She said. I fought back another sob and repeated her words to her before hanging up.

I walked over to a bench and pulled out my phone. I decided to text Harry.

'Hey Harry, you won't believe what just happened man. I just basically beat Shane in and got kicked off the rugby team.'

I waited for a few moments before my phone vibrated.

'Really? Wow mate that's... wow! Why'd you two fight?'

'He kept egging on the whole Amber thing, and he's the one who beat up Brandon. That's why his face looks like that!'

'Your joking right?? He really did that to him?? You fought him for Brandon? That's nice of you mate. But was it really worth getting kicked off the team?'

'Maybe... I hope so. It just wasn't right Harry. But look, I'll have to talk to you about it tomorrow.'

I heard a car horn and looked to see my dad's car. I wrapped my backpack back around my shoulder and walked over to the car. I got in and sat in the back. My mom looked at my face before she showed a pained look on her face.

"What happened." My dad said sternly.

"Shane kept on egging me on dad." I said.

"Egging you on? You just got kicked out of the team! That was your way out of here! That was your way out..." My dad said gripping the steering wheel.

"I'm sorry dad..."

"Sorry won't cut it this time Liam! I don't want you to be here alright? I want you to have a good life. Your talented son. You can do so much, staying here isn't going to do you any good! I don't want you to end up like me working nine to five every goddamn day just to make ends meet! I don't want you being stressed out every two weeks wondering if you'll have enough money to make ends meet! The craziness stops right fucking now! Do you understand me?" My dad said out of breath, glaring at me through the rearview mirror.

"Yes sir." I said softly. He put the car in drive and drove us back to our house. The ride home was extremely awkward. There were no words said, my dad said what he needed to say. There wasn't much else to be said. When we arrived home my dad went into his bedroom and closed the door. I turned to my mum and immediately broke out into more tears.

"Please, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, please forgive me." I said sobbing into her shoulder. She rubbed small circles into my back. "I said I would do better, and look at me! I'm a disappointment!" I said.

"Shhh now Liam. Stop all of that. Your not a disappointment." She said calmly. "Listen to me son, your father and I love you very much. We just want the best for you. We love you very much. Everybody makes mistakes in their lives, you have to learn from them and mature up. I hope this taught you something." She said releasing me and standing in front of me. She rubbed away the tears in my eyes and kissed me on my cheek. She left me with my thoughts and entered the kitchen. I stood there and thought about going to talk to my dad. I was afraid. What if he was still upset with me? I had to though, I didn't want him upset with me for longer then necessary. I dropped my backpack and gym bag on the couch and walked slowly to my parents room. I knocked on the door and to my surprise he opened it and faced me.

"Can we talk..." I asked, my voice trailing off. He opened the door all the way. He went and sat on the bed, I sat on the bed next to him.

"I just wanted to say... I'm sorry I've put you through so much dad. I'm trying to stop, I promise I am." I said all in one breath. I just had to let it out. My dad put his firm hand on my shoulder.

"I know son, no need to apologize. I... I'm just afraid for you. I don't want you to end up like me..." He said.

"Would it be so bad to end up like you?" He shrugged his shoulders.

"Financially yes. I want you to do big things. You have more talents then just rugby. You can even run track, play soccer, and I remember when you were younger. You would always sing Frank Sanatra songs! You absolutely loved his records." My dad laughed and I smiled at the last part of his statement.

"If that's what it takes to make you proud, then so be it. I will be very financially stable. I will do it, and I will do it for you and mum." I said.

"And for yourself Liam. You spend to much time trying to please your mother and I. Please yourself, do what you want to do. Follow your dreams Liam, and they will lead you where you need to be in life." He said. Follow my dreams... I don't even know what I wanted to be. I was always searching for my parents approval with everything, I don't even know what I wanted to do. I did actually enjoy singing when I was little, but I can't do that. Everyone would think I was a sissy or something.

"Think about it Liam."  He said raising from his spot. "Come out for dinner when your done." He said walking out the door. I laid back on my parents bed and stared at the ceiling. Singing... who cares what other people think? My dad told me follow my dreams. Well maybe I wanted to be a singer. I did like soccer as well, maybe I wanted to become a professional soccer player? Or maybe even a coach. Or a teacher! I was interrupted out of my thoughts when my phone vibrated in my jeans pocket. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw who it was that texted me. It was from Danielle.

'Hi Liam :)'
