6. Chapter 6 ~ Where I Belong

I head inside and close the front door behind me. I stare out the window at Nathan's car driving around the corner and out of sight and the realisation hits me. I'm going to a Valentine's Day dance with Nathan! I began stressing out majorly, no one will know who I am, people will assume I'm just there because I'm using Nathan to get a bit of fame, and what was I going to wear? I had to try and make a good impression, but it's not as if I'm a celebrity myself, I'll look so underdressed and out of place next to all the celebrities with their posh clothes picked out for them by stylists. Oh God, why on earth did I agree to this?

I walked upstairs to my bedroom, still pickling my brains on what I could wear when my eyes fell upon my dress hanging on the door of my wardrobe. Yes, I thought, a slow, satisfied smile creeping gently across my face, this was perfect. I walked up to it and fingered the light, white fabric scattered with red flowers. It really was a beautiful dress. I glanced at the clock, nearly six. I didn't have that much time to get ready. I stood in front of my mirror, wondering what on earth I was going to do with my hair. And shoes! Oh I needed shoes! And what accessories and make up and oh gosh this is just too stressful and- my thoughts were interrupted by a loud knock at my door. I raced down the stairs to get to the door and opened it to find Kelsey and Nareesha standing on my doorstep, holding big bags with massive smiles on their faces.

"Surprise!" Kelsey said,

"Wait, why are you here?" I wondered, though with a smile on my face, I was glad to see them.

"Nathan gave us directions," Nareesha explained, "He figured you might want some company here and he wanted us to help calm your nerves as well,"

He thinks of everything, I thought.

"And also, we wanted to come over and get ready with you and have some girl time!" Kelsey added.

"That's so great!" I exclaimed with happiness, "I'm so glad you're here!" And I invited them inside.

We went up to my room and I heard gasps of surprise as they spotted my dress,

"Oh wow Hannah, it's gorgeous!"

"You'll look wonderful in it!"

Slightly embarassed with all the positive comments and not too sure what to say, I said to distract them,

"So let's see your outfits then!"

They both showed me their dresses and then we all got changed into them. Kelsey looking fabulous in a simple yet gorgeous red strapless dress and Nareesha looking as stunning as always in a short, aztec print dress.

"Come on then, give us a twirl!" Kelsey said to me, and I spun around on the spot, feeling slightly foolish.

"Aww it's so pretty," Nareesha said.

"Alright, let's get going, we've still got hair and make-up to do!" Kelsey said. We each did our own make-up, I didn't put on too much, I didn't want to over-do it and end up looking like a clown. I outlined my eyes with black eyeliner and sweeped some mascara across my lashes and then put on the tiniest bit of blusher to give my face some colour and then put on some red lipstick, well it is Valentine's Day after all.

"I see," said Kelsey, "going with the natural look are we? Very wise, it looks good."

"Oh, thank you," I say with a small smile.

"Right, now onto hair ladies," Nareesha said. Nareesha and Kelsey both styled their hair beautifully, but I just sat in front of my mirror, staring at my reflection and wondering what on earth I could do with my hair.

"Are you ok Hannah?" Nareesha asked,

"Uh yeah, I'm fine..."

"Don't know what to do with your hair?" Kelsey questioned,

"Umm yes, that's basically it," I replied.

"Don't worry, we'll do you hair for you, won't we Kels?" Nareesha said with a big smile,

"We've had lots of practice," Kelsey added.

"Alright then," I agreed and we spent the next few minutes styling my hair.

"Now, take a look in the mirror," Kelsey ordered, I turned around to face the mirror and gasped in surprise. I looked so different, but in a good way. The girls had straightened my hair halfway, and then curled the ends and pinned a few shorter, layered bits back with clips with tiny red flowers on them.

"Wow," I whispered,

"You like it?" Nareesha asked,

"I don't like it, I love it!" I say, rushing over to them both and giving them a hug and thanking them. Just then there was a knock at the door. I glanced at my clock, it was just a few minutes past eight. Goodness, time had gone by so quickly. We each gathered our things and walked down the stairs. I opened the door to find Nathan, Siva and Tom waiting on my doorstep. Nathan looked absolutely gorgeous and perfect in a suit. He greeted me with a smile and pulled me in for a hug and gave me a quick kiss on the lips,

"You look stunning Hannah," he whispered to me, taking my hand,

"You're not looking to bad yourself, Sykes," I said, joking around with him.

We all stepped out the door and I locked the house up, and turned around to face a limo standing in my driveway.

"Oh my goodness," I whispered, shocked,

"I take it you've never driven in a limo before?"

"No, never,"

"Well there's a first time for everything," Nathan said, pulling me towards the limousine.

We all clambered inside and I ended up sitting between Nathan and Kelsey. I laughed and talked my way through the journey, though I couldn't quite settle my nerves. We drove for a while into the city until we reached the venue. I looked out the tinted windows and saw a glorious big building, almost like a hotel, standing before me. It was made of white stone and had big pillars running up either side. Comeing out of the door and down to wear the limo had parkerd was a red carpet, and there were lots of barriers blocking off hopefuls from the public trying to catch a photo of the celebrities, and there were also many photographers and press journalists, clammering for the best photo and a snatch of an interview. My heart began thudding in my chest uncontrollably, the butterflies were back in my stomach.

"Hannah?" Nathan said to me, sounding worried, I nodded, too scared to speak. "Hannah listen to me, you'll be absolutely fine, you're a great girl and you look gorgeous tonight, just ignore the press and if they ask you any questions I'll answer for you. I wouldn't be taking you here if I didn't think you could handle it. It's about time that everyone knew what's going on, but I'm going to announce it officially later alright? Just stay beside me, hold my hand, be yourself and nothing can go wrong." Nathan said with a reassuring smile, taking hold of my hand, giving it a squeeze and stepping out of the limousine with me.

We walked up the red carpet, the glares from the cameras hurting my eyes, voices shouting everywhere, giving me a headache,

"Look! It's The Wanted!"

"Siva! Nareesha! Over here!"

"What about some Jaythan love for the cameras?"

"Group photo now everyone!"

"Wait, who's that?"

"It's that girl from the article!"

"Who is she?"

"Are they in a relationship?"

"Maybe they're just friends..."

Just as I was taking in my surroundings, a reporter and cameraman rushed up to us,

"Hello Nathan, would you mind answering a few questions for us?" The reporter asked,

"No, not at all, I'd love to," he replied flashing them that beautiful smile.

"So, could you tell us who you're friend here is?" They began,

"Well..." Nathan started, but he was interrupted by someone bustling us along, the next celebrity had arrived. I breathed a silent sigh of relief. Nathan linked his arm through mine and we walked up the white stone steps into the entrance hall.

"Are you alright?" Nathan asked with concern, whilst we waited for the others to join us,

"Yes, I'm fine thank you. That was all just a bit crazy," I said, feeling slightly dazed.

"Don't worry, you'll get used to it," Nathan said with a wink as we joined up with the other boys and Kelsey and Nareesha. We were shown up a white marble staircase and into a very large room which looked like what I could only describe as a ballroom. The ceiling was a painted a deep burgundy red with white embellishments running around the outside. The walls of the room were also painted the same shade as the roof. Hanging in the middle of the ceiling was a big, grand crystal chandelier. All around the room were little rose bushes in white china pots, the roses were an assortment of red and white. We were shown to a large table covered with a white table cloth and many candles arranged neatly around, casting a nice, atmospheric and romantic glow. Dotted here and there around the table were delicate red rose petals which added a nice touch I thought. Nathan pulled out my chair for me, what a gentleman, and then made sure I was sitting comfortably and then sat down himself. Once I was sitting down I realised just how many people were here tonight, and I also spotted a large stage at the end of the room. That must be where the acts are performing, I thought.

The first part of the evening flew by so quickly, we were served a delicous three course meal and it went along with amusing conversations and lots of laughter. I honestly thought at one point I had stopped breathing I was laughing so much. All the while Nathan kept locking his gaze with mine and held my hand under the table. After we had all finished our dinner, a few people that the lads knew came over for a conversation and I was introduced, just as Hannah for now. Although I knew Nathan was going to tell everyone soon what really was going on between us. I spent the next half hour or so talking and making polite conversation with so many celebrities and shaking their hands and they all said how nice it was to meet me and that I seemed like a lovely young lady, which made me blush. I got a lot of compliments from the women about my dress and they all asked where on earth I got it, did a stylist make it for me? So I told them all about Sophie and how she designed and made the dress for me. They were all awestruck about that and asked where her shop was. So I told them. It would get Sophie a lot of new customers which would be good. Her buisness hasn't exactly been going very well at the moment. I had my photograph taken a couple of times with Nathan and the boys which felt quite strange yet nice that someone would want me to be in their picture. With everything going on I hadn't noticed that all the tables from dinner had been moved out of the room and all the chairs had been placed near the front of the stage.

A small orchestra walked on with a couple of microphones and singers. The host of this event then explained this was where each gentleman took their date for a dance. A quick dance was played out first of all,

"Shall we?" Nathan said, making his way towards me with a smile,

"It would be my pleasure," I replied, taking his out-stretched hand. "Nath, the only thing is, I have no idea what I'm doing!"

"Me either to be honest, but that's the fun of it. Just make it up and move in time to the music with me," he said, pulling me onto the dance floor.

We danced our way through the evening together, talking quietly about life and other things, although sometimes we'd just let the music take hold of us and would stay silent, and I'd think about how incredibly lucky I was to have this man. Then we heard someone speaking over the microphone,

"Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you're all enjoying yourselves this evening? It has been a pleasure to see all of you having fun and becoming romantic. It is now time for the last dance, so please, if you would all take to the dance floor, this shall be a waltz."

The last dance seemed to pass so quickly in a whirlwind of waltzing and twirls, at one point halfway through the dance, Nathan said to me,

"I don't know if I've told you this already, but you look absolutely gorgeous tonight Hannah," he whispered gently, resting his forehead against mine, eyelashes tickling my skin. I didn't know what to say, so I just smiled for what felt like the millionth time that night. As the waltz slowly came to a close, we stayed like that, and then Nathan leaned down gently and kissed me passionately on the lips. I was aware of people watching but right then I really couldn't care less, I was lost in the moment. I kissed him back and I felt his hands caressing my face gently, and I placed mine around his neck. Eventually, we broke away from the kiss and I stared into his deep sea-green eyes, filled with passion and love and he looked into mine. A small smile began to grow on his face and I couldn't help but smile back.

"Thank you," he whispered to me, and took me over to where the rest of the boys were standing. We ignored the stares and the whispers from other people and took our places in the audience in the chairs in front of the stage. I spent the rest of the evening enjoying the performances and music acts, cuddling up to Nathan and resting my head on his shoulder. Every now and then he would plant a kiss on top of my hair. I was so happy right then, it felt as if I was flying. But then near the end, he got with the rest of the boys and had to go and get ready for their performance, which was scheduled for last. I moved along to sit with Nareesha and Kelsey and watched the rest of the show with them.

And then finally it was their turn, I watched all five of them run onto the stage, buzzing with energy and enthusiasm. They sang I Found You, one of my favourite songs by them, and I got the strange, excited feeling that I always used to get when I watched them perform live before I met Nathan. And then it came to Nathan's solo, and he only had eyes for me. His voice was so intense, so powerful, it gave me goosebumps, and all the while his eyes stayed locked on mine until the very end.

After a long and deserved applause, the audience eventaully settled, and the boys thanked everyone. And then Nathan walked to the front of the stage and began to say,

"I'd just like to make some things quite clear, if you've not already realised, that beautiful girl in the audience, Hannah Ferrier, is now my girlfriend." And he finished with a smile. The audience then erupted with massive applause and wolf whistles as the boys exited the stage. The host of the event then came back onto the stage and thanked everyone for coming and all the acts for performing and then politely dismissed us all. I stood up with the hundreds of other people and made my way through the crowds, looking for Nathan. On the way I was stopped by many people telling me congratulations and how happy they were for us and all of that. I politely replied with a smile and a thank you and then carried on with my search for Nathan. Feeling slightly dizzy from the excited babble of the crowds, I didn't notice Nathan making his way towards me until the last moment when we were just standing a few inches apart. He enveloped me into a hug and said,

"I hope that was ok with you? I think it's about time the public knew,"

"Yes," I replied, "I think this was the best place to tell everyone,"

"Good, you do realise that things will get harder? There will be some hate but I know you can cope, you're a strong person. Eventually people will get used to us and come to accept that you're the girl I love,"

"Yes, I always knew things would become more difficult, but I'm sure we'll be fine," I replied,

"I like your positive attitude," Nathan said with a smile, taking my hand, "Come on, let's get you home."

We walked out hand in hand with the rest of the boys and then climbed into our limousine. It was a long drive to get home, and I was exhausted and tired with the day's events. Many times I managed to stifle a yawn but one escaped my mouth about halfway through the journey.

"Are you tired?" Nathan asked me,

"Oh, no, I'm fine, I..." I stopped as I covered my mouth to hide another yawn,

"Look at the poor girl, she's exhausted!" Jay said, smiling across at me, "It's no wonder though, I bet today's been a big change for you,"

"I'm sure you'll get used to it though," Kelsey said,

"She'll have to, seeing as she's Nath's girlfriend," Max added.

"Shh, don't listen to them." Nathan whispered to me, "just get comfortable, rest your head on my shoulder if you want to, and have a little sleep."

"Oh no, Nathan it's alright, I'm fine," I said, though barely able to keep my eyes open, but Nathan just put his arm around me and cuddled me in close beside him,

"Shh, just sleep my love, just sleep," he whispered to me in a soft voice, gently stroking my hair and planting a delicate kiss on my forehead, and eventually I found myself drifting off into a dreamless slumber.

My last thoughts were before drowsiness took over were, this is where I belong.
