Nathan walked me out to my car and gave me a parting hug,
"I'll see you tonight Hannah," he said to me, a smile creeping across his lips in the most adorable way.
"Alright then, I'll see you later" I reply and get into my car. As I drive away I see him still standing at the entrance, waving at me. I bet he's still standing there and waving even though I've turned the corner, I thought. I turned on the radio and sang along to all the songs all the way back to my house with such a happy and excited feeling in my stomach. It hadn't really sunk in yet, I'm going out with Nathan Sykes from The Wanted. I have honestly no idea what he sees in me. I was always the weird one at school, the girl who'd never had a boyfriend.
I arrived at my house. I liked my house, it wasn't too big yet wasn't too small either. It was just a medium sized farm cottage practically in the middle of nowhere, but I thought it was pretty. I had made it my own and painted the front door a nice sky blue with matching window panes. I'd managed to also grow a small arch of white roses around the front door. The brickwork of the cottage was nice as well, it wasn't very modern, just big slabs of grey and white lodged here and there with lichen and moss growing on the occasional stone. I had a small garden that ran all the way around my house, at the back I had a little vegetable patch and a small pond where I kept some fish. Around the front in the garden there were numerous flower beds dotted here and there, although there were no flowers at this time of year, it was only February after all. In the bottom right hand corner of the garden was a little apple tree that has never produced any apples for as long as I've lived here, which is quite disappointing to be honest. I keep hoping that one day I will find an apple on it. One of my closest friends has come up with the ridiculous idea that when an apple does appear on it then I have found my one true love. I say that's whole load of rubbish, she just says I don't have any hope.
I walk up the small stone path towards the door, the cold icy wind rustling my hair and clothes. I reach the door and put my hand underneath the doormat for the key, unlock the door and then go inside, shutting the horrible, cold February weather out. I head up to my bedroom and then collapse on my bed, thinking of today's events, just going over them in my mind. I begin to think that I've imagined everything when my phone vibrates in my pocket, giving me the fright of my life. I open the message, it's from Nathan:
Heyyy Hannah! Looking forward to seeing u tonight! Is 7 a good time? We're all just meeting at the bowling alley, is that ok? If not u can give me directions and I'll come and pick u up if u want? xxx
Aww he's so sweet, I think to myself, smiling like an idiot at the screen of my phone. I reply with:
Hi! Yes, 7 is a great time. That's absolutley fine! It's ok, I know where the bowling alley is but thank u very much anyway! Looking forward to seeing u too! xxxx
I glance at the time, it's nearly 5, oh god I don't have that much time left, and what am I supposed to do about my dinner? Just as I'm stressing out about that, I get another message from Nathan:
Alright that's good. Aww you're welcome love :) Oh don't have dinner, because I've got that sorted out. Kelsey and Nareesha will be there too, is that ok? xxxx
My stomach felt as if it had been flipped over twenty times as I read that, I'll be having dinner with him! And I'll be meeting Kelsey and Nareesha! Oh no, what if they don't like me? They're so beautiful and amazing and I'm just an ordinary journalist girl who isn't anything special. Despite all of my anxious thoughts, I replied with:
Ok then! Ok, yes, that's absolutely fine xxxx
But it was as if he could read my thoughts because he sent back:
Don't worry Hannah, u will be fine. Kelsey and Nareesha will LOVE u, you're an amazing girl, who wouldn't love u? I'll see u soon xxxx
I felt slightly more reasurred at that and went over to my wardrobe to decide what to wear. What on earth was I going to wear? I probably shouldn't go too fancy, but he might be taking me out to dinner. But then again bowling in a dress just wouldn't be right. I didn't want to appear too casual either though, they might get the impression that I couldn't be bothered to make an effort. In the end, after ages of going through my wardrobe, pulling out different outfits, trying on things and mixing and matching different combinations, I finally settled for a pair of denim shorts with hearts patterened on the pockets with tights and a simple black top with a white peter pan collar and dark blue ballet flats with white polka dots. I took my hair out of it's messy pony tail and brushed it, watching medium brown waves of hair fall around my face and shoulders, tumbling down until just past my shoulders. I decided to just leave it loose like that. I quite liked the slight wave that my hair had. Then I put on my signature bracelet which I wear all the time. It's a delicate charm bracelet that my grandmother got for me when I was 12 and I've worn it everyday since then. It's very special to me and has a lot of charms on it and they all have a special meaning. For example, there's a pair of ballet shoes for when I passed a dance exam. And there's a little silver book when I passed my exams at school. There's also a pen and a notebook when I majored in journalism at university. Though my favourite charm is a music note that I got when I wrote a song during school about a boy I liked and then sang it in our Easter concert. I took a quick look at the time, it was quarter past six, goodness, time had passed so quickly! I rushed to the mirror and quickly fixed my make up. I didn't want to put too much on so I just outlined my blue-green eyes with my favourite simple black eyeliner and then gently sweeped some mascara across my lashes and put a small dab of my favourite strawberry lip balm on my lips, grabbed my black duffel coat and car keys and literally ran out the door.
I pulled up outside the bowling alley with a few minutes to spare. I decided to go in, worrying that I was too early, I didn't want to seem to desperate. When I got in I just sat on a small sofa in the waiting area. I didn't hear someone coming up behind me until it was too late.
"Surprise!" Someone's voice whispered in my ear, their sweet breath tickling my cheeks. They put their arms around me from behind and I leaned backwards and was met with the gaze of the one and only Nathan Sykes.
"Hello," I say smiling at him and standing up.
"Right, shall we get started? You need to let me introduce me you to everyone," Nathan says, taking my hand in his and pulling me along to the desk where everyone was getting their bowling shoes.
"Everyone, I'd like you to meet my girlfriend," Nathan says with a smile that seems almost proud, "Of course, you've already met the lads today, but Kelsey and Nareesha, this is Hannah."
"Hi! Oh my gosh I'm so glad we've finally met you now!" Kelsey exclaims, giving me a massive smile. They both come over to me and give me a hug and Nareesha says,
"Nathan hasn't shut up about you all day!"
All I can do is grin like an idiot because I have no idea what to say to these amazing girls, but from that moment on, I know that I've made friends for life.
"Umm, come on now, should we get started?" Nathan says, looking a bit embarassed now. We all get our bowling shoes and head over to a lane and then split into teams of four. Nareesha, Siva, Max and Jay are on one team and Kesley, Tom, Nathan and I are on the other team.
"You're going down losers!" Tom exclaims with a cheeky grin, "Whoo! Go team... Tomsey-Hathan!"
"Ha, we'll see about that!" Max replies, "We'll just see who's laughing in the end when WE win!"
We spend the evening playing a very competitive bowling match, I'm absolutely rubbish, so on one of my turns, Nathan comes up and stands next to me, guiding my arm, showing me how to do it properly.
"Cheats! You cheaters!" Jay exclaims, "They should be disqualified!" he shouts with a grin,
"Oh shut up Jay," Nathan says as we walk back to our bench, giving him a playful shove as he goes past.
"Obstruction!" Jay says,
"Now Nathan, violence isn't the answer," Siva says jokingly,
"Excuse me but I didn't read anything in the rules about not being able to to shove annoying people out of the way," Nathan retorts back,
"And you've actually read the rules?" Max says, teasing Nathan. I just head back to my seat, trying hard not to laugh. The rest of the evening goes really well, near the end Nathan puts his arm round my shoulders and I rest my head on him. I feel safe and protected.
In the end, despite having me on their team, we do win, and Tom decides to do a little victory dance around the bowling alley.
"Whoo hoo! Yeah! In your faces!" He says, laughing his head off.
"What a show off.." Jay mutters,
"Now, now, come on, you're just jealous because we won," I say to him, smiling.
"Yeah whatever, but we'll win next time!"
"So now we're all going back to my place for a victory party!" Tom says to us all.
"Oh are you sure?" I ask him, "You don't need to invite me, I can just go home..." I trail off.
"Don't be silly, of course you're coming!" Tom says,
"Yes, you have to come, your Nath's girlfriend!" says Siva,
"That gives you like a backsatge pass to everywhere we go!" Max says to me, flashing me a grin.
"Alright then," I reply happily.
We all walk into the car park,
"I'll go with Hannah," Nathan says to everyone else,
"Well we wouldn't be expecting you to be driving there with anyone else," Kelsey says smiling.
We get in the car and I turn to Nathan and say,
"Alright, so how do we get to Tom's place?" I ask him,
"Well..." Nathan starts but I interrupt him,
"Wait, why don't you just drive the car?" I ask him,
"You're sure?" He asks me, his green eyes looking into mine.
"Yes, I'm positive. I trust you." I tell him with sincerity. We get out of the car and switch places and drive to Tom's flat, talking and mostly laughing about our evening.
When we arrive at Tom's house we all kind of go quite crazy, everyone jumps up and down to the music and Jay and Max start throwing confetti and balloons at each other, making a right mess. Siva and Nareesha get all cuddled up on the sofa together after we've eaten some food. Then Tom finds some party hats and insists that we all wear at least one, though he manages to fit three on his head at once. Nathan dances with me all night, and I say to him,
"Thank you for everything tonight,"
"Your welcome love," Nathan replies, taking me by the hand and pulling me into a hug. Eventually when I pull away he says to me,
"Come on, I've got to show you something," and he takes me by the hand, our fingers entwined, and we go out of Tom's flat and climb the stairs until there's no more. Nathan unlocks a door and leads me on to the roof of the flat.
"Oh my goodness!" I gasp with surprise, "Are we allowed to be up here?"
"I'm not actually sure, but Tom's taken me up here a few times, just to talk about things and it's where I go when I'm here and I just need some peace and time to think. I've been up here lots of times and no one has ever stopped me, yet." Nathan says, leading me over to the edge. I hold on to him tightly, afraid for some reason.
"Don't worry." Nathan whispers softly in my ear, "I won't let you fall. Look up there instead." He says, pointing to the sky. I tilt my head upwards and gasp at the beautiful sight of the night sky, sprinkled with small, sparkling stars.
"Wow, it's so beautiful and amazing!" I say, my voice barely a whisper.
"Just like you," Nathan replies and he leans forward to kiss me. This one feels different, almost magical, maybe it's because we're under the stars. When we break apart we both gaze up at the stars again. Suddenly, a shooting star flies across the sky, gone in an instant, yet it was most definately there.
"A shooting star!" I gasp in exclamation, "quickly, make a wish!" I close my eyes and say inside my head: I wish there were more perfect moments in life like this.
As I open my eyes I hear Nathan beside me say,
"I don't need to wish for anything anymore. I have all that I need right here and right now, with the best job in the world and the most amazing and beautiful girl by my side, I don't ever need to wish for anything again." He finishes that by pulling me back into an embrace and kissing me all over again and it's like fireworks are going off in my stomach and I feel as if I'm on top of the world.
