I rush inside hurriedly, and dump all my things in a heap on the floor, this was so strange. Thoughts swirled around frantically in my head, I was confused. Why was Rory asking about me? Could his sister possibly be the girl I'd met in town? That was impossible, but those eyes, there was just something strange about them. I decided my only way to find out what was going on was to talk to Sophie. I quickly dialled her number and she picked up on the first ring,
"Hannah?" She asked,
"Yeah, its me,"
"Are you alright? Your voice is shaking,"
Was it? I hadn't even noticed, I calmed myself down and began to talk,
"Sophie, about Rory," I say,
"Oh yes! Apparently his sister's dying to speak to you, look Hannah I'm really sorry, I'm going to be a crap friend and end this conversation, I'm seeing Rory again tonight, but I promise I'll text you or something about it!" Before I can get a word in, even to say goodbye, she's put the phone down and cut me off. Hmm, that was strange, I thought, trying to not let it upset me. It's late and I've had a busy day with the boys and I've got another busy day ahead of me tomorrow with the concert, so I go upstairs and fall asleep almost as soon as my head hits the pillow.
I wake up to the sound of my mobile ringing, I glance at the screen, it's a number that I vaguely recognise although I'm not too sure who it is,
"Hello?" I say, my voice sounding tired and sleepy,
"Hannah? Is that you? I wasn't sure if I'd remembered your number right," a familar voice says to me,
"Sophie?" I ask, wondering why she's phoning from her house, "How did it go last night?"
"Oh it was great," Sophie sighs with happiness, "but I've lost my mobile, that's why I'm phoning from my house,"
"Oh," I reply,
"And Hannah," Sophie begins, "Some strange things are happening, I mean, I love Rory, and he says he loves me, but he's becoming awfully interested in uh, you!"
"What?" I say, astounded,
"I know, I know, it's weird. But he's been asking if you're still with Nathan and how you're coping with the hate and then, this was really strange, he asked for directions to your house! He says it's because his sister is desperate to meet you,"
"What?! Did you tell him?" I asked, shocked at this news,
"No, no of course not, what kind of friend do you think I am? I said the next time you see Hannah you can ask her yourself,"
"Oh, that's ok then," I say, breathing out a sigh of relief, for some reason it makes me anxious that Rory wants to know so much about me,
"But Hannah," Sophie starts again, "I think he took my phone, and I think he's lying to me,"
"What?" I say, for what feels like the hundredth time, "what makes you think that?"
"Well last night we went to a restaurant for dinner, and I got up to go to the bathroom, and I remember seeing my phone in my bag, and when I came back we got up and left and when I arrived at home I took it out so I could text you and then it was gone."
"Oh, are you sure it's not in a side pocket or anything?"
"Nope, I turned the whole thing inside out."
"Well, I'm sure it will turn up, don't jump to conclusions just yet," I say to Sophie, trying to listen to my own advice as well,
"Alright, thanks Hannah, love you," Sophie says, ending the call,
"Love you too," I whisper, into the empty phone. Everything has just gotten a whole lot more complicated, I think. I decide to try and put it out of my mind, the chances of Rory being the girl's sister is very little. There are lots of people who have blue eyes, and lots of people who love The Wanted, so I shouldn't be worried. Instead, to put my mind off things I get ready for the concert tonight. Nathan's coming to pick me up in the late afternoon so I have plenty of time, I just get into casual clothes first of all and then decide to watch the #WantedWednesday we made for today. It really is quite hilarious. I know I shouldn't but my eyes wandered down to the comments underneath the flip, and I smiled in happiness at the fan responses,
"Awww that's one of my faves!"
"TW I LOVE YOUUUU!!!!"
"Is that Nath's girlfriend? If she is then she's soooooo lucky <3"
"They looked like they had fun"
"That has to be the funniest WantedWednesday ever!"
"OMG NANNAH! SOOOO CUTE!"
"Hannah comes across as a genuinely lovely girl, I'm happy for Nath"
"NATHAN FINALLY HAS A GIRLFRIEND! THANK GOODNESS ITS BEEN AGES!!!! HE DESERVES THIS!"
But then my stomach started to turn as I scrolled down and saw some of the other, negative comments:
"Eww, who is that?"
"Nathan deserves more"
"NATH YOU COULD DO BETTER"
"She's not even that pretty"
"Stay away from him Hannah, you don't know who you're messing with."
After that I snap the lid of my laptop shut, but I can't block out the voices in my head. I glance at the clock, I suppose I should go and get ready, I have nothing else better to do.
I have a shower and then get changed into black skinny jeans and a simple plain white shirt and dark blue blazer. I don't know what to do with my hair and it's a bit of a frizzy mess, so after trying to tame it with a brush, I just pull it up into a high ponytail, and watch as a few shorter strands of my layered hair fall out from the bobble and frame my heart shaped face. I apply a small smidgen of makeup and then go downstairs to wait for Nathan, the day has passed surprisingly quickly and it's nearly half four. Moments later I hear a knock at my door and I skip towards it happily and full of excitement. Nathan is standing there with a huge grin on his face,
"Excited?" He asks, as we walk out the door,
"Very!" I reply, taking hold of his hand as we walk out to the car. As we're driving to the venue, laughing and talking along the way, I get a text from Sophie:
I'VE GOT MY PHONE BACK!!!xxx
I reply with:
Well of course u do or u wouldn't be texting me ;) anyway where did u find it? xxx
She replies back almost instantly with:
Haha I see your point. Oh Rory had it, says I left it in his car the other night xxx
I breathe a sigh of relief, she must've just left it in his car by accident, and all my worries of Rory being connected with the girl dissappear, it was just a silly thought. I need to enjoy my evening. Nathan turns on the radio and starts singing along to the songs that come on, and before I know it I begin to sing as well, that' strange, I've not sung in front of other people for years, but with Nathan I feel comfortable and relaxed, anyway I don't think he's noticed, he's too busy getting into the song to notice my voice.
I thought wrong, when we stop outside the venue, Nathan turns in his seat and looks me straight in the eyes,
"Why didn't you tell me you could sing?" He asks,
"Me? Well I can't really, I mean, if that's what you call singing then-" Nathan cuts me off by placing a finger gently on my lips,
"Shh," he says, "you have a really unique voice, it's so lovely, I didn't say anything when we were driving because I didn't want to interrupt you. You really have something special."
I blush, not sure what to say, no one's ever complimented my singing before, probably because I never sing in front of anyone. To distract him and focus the attention away from me I say,
"We're late! Aren't you supposed to be in there now having a rehearsal?" It doesn't work,
"Yeah, I am, but we'll talk about this later," he says with a wink, getting out the car as I groan inwardly.
We enter the building through a side door and Nathan and I are shown into a dressing room where the rest of the lads are sitting, waiting and warming up their voices. I'm pleased to see that Nareesha and Kelsey are there. I go over to greet them and we have a quiet conversation whilst the boys quickly go over a few songs. And then before I know it it's time for the concert to begin, Kelsey, Nareesha and I stand backstage, watching them perform from the side. They welcome the crowd, a sea of happy, screaming fans, and then begin singing, the atmosphere out there is phenomenal, and I can't help but smile when they talk to the audience and get a great reaction. For them to bring so much happiness to thousands of people, just by saying one sentence or singing one song, is absolutely incredible. After the concert is over, Nathan sneaks up behind me and places his arms around my waist, and spins around in a circle with me, I giggle, feeling dizzy.
"That was just...wow." I say to him, "Words can't describe how amazing that performance was!" I say, hugging him tightly,
"Hey, do you want to come over to mine like now, just for a bit?" Nathan asks, spontaneously,
"Sure, I'd love to!" I reply happily with a smile, as Nathan puts his arm around my shoulders and I place mine around his waist as we walk out to where the car is parked, "But I'll need to head back to my house later, I've got to go to the office first thing tomorrow morning to edit an interview." I say as we open the door and walk outside, but as soon as the door bangs shut my happy mood disappears, and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, I have the strangest feeling we're being watched. I stop dead in my tracks, not paying attention to my actions,
"Is everything ok?" Nathan asks, stopping with me,
"Yeah, I-" I spin around suddenly, facing the dark alleyway behind me, I was sure there had been someone there as we walked past. Nathan turns around to,
"Hannah, I'm confused, what's happened?" He asks, taking hold of my hand, I know he can feel the tension in my body and I try to relax,
"I thought I saw something, but, I don't know, never mind," I say. We turned back around together, to head back to the car, but our path was blocked by a girl of around sixteen. She had long, striaght blonde hair, and then as her gaze met mine I let out a gasp and I was rooted to the spot with fear. Those eyes. Those terrifying, haunting blue eyes. They looked coldly and cruelly at me, I felt as if she was reading through my mind.
"Hello," Nathan said politely, although I could tell that he knew exactly who she was. The girl smiled a cold fake smile, more of a grimace, and averted her eyes from me to Nathan.
"Nathan," she began, with a voice like ice to match her eyes, "I am Nicole, I think, along with a lot of other people that you and Hannah should, how do I say this, go your separate ways." She said bluntly, "Otherwise things might become dangerous and someone might get hurt," She whispered, her voice sent shivers down my back,
"Excuse me, but are you threatening me?" Nathan asked, and I could hear the disgust in his voice. Nicole took no notice but instead gave Nathan a cool smile, and then she locked her gaze on me once more,
"We are closer to you than you can imagine Hannah, we happen to know everything," and with that she stalked past us, as she did so she raised a hand and before any of us could do anything, she stormed past, swiftly hitting me in the face as she did so. She was strong, stronger than I imagined, and the force of the blow sent me toppling backwards onto the cold, hard ground. I heard Nathan let out a cry of desperation, and as I sat up, feeling slightly dizzy, I could see him wondering whether or not to run after Nicole, or stay with me. He chose to stay.
"Oh my god Hannah I'm so sorry! How could I have let that happen?"
"Hey, it's alright," I say, as he helps me up off the ground, "No harm done," I say, forcing a shaky smile.
"That still wasn't right. She's the girl from your nightmares isn't she?" Nathan asks, and I just nod, "I think it would be best just to get you home,"
I agree wearily and we drive in a tense silence all the way to my house. I eventually break it because I can't stanf it being like this,
"Nathan," I begin, "look it's fine, I'm fine. Can we please just forget about this?"
"That's what you say, but we both know we won't forget that," Nathan says cooly,
"But please-" I try again,
"No buts, Hannah. I just can't stand seeing you being treated that way. It makes me sad to think that anyone could hate you. I can't bear the thought of you being hurt."
"We always knew there'd be hate though, didn't we?" I ask, Nathan just sighs heavily in what I'm guessing is agreement, so I try another tactic, something I would never try with anyone else, "Well if I sing for you would it help take your mind off things?" Nathan looks across at me, and I'm delighted to see a smile, even if it's a small one, appear on his face.
"Alright then," he agrees. For a moment I curse myself, why on earth did I just say that, but I know that Nathan is truthful and I don't know, maybe what he said about my voice was true, so I decided to give it a shot. I sang only for a little while, and a song that Nathan would know well. I sang the chorus of I Found You, I could feel my cheeks blushing bright red in the darkness and turned my head away from Nathan. Once I'd finished I snuck a sideways glance at him, to see him smiling a big smile in the darkness.
"Why didn't you tell me you could sing?" he asked,
"I guess I just thought I couldn't," I reply simply,
"Well you can," Nathan says back to me, as we arrive at my house, "you can sing very well. Did you ever think about a career with music?" he asks suddenly,
"When I was fifteen I thought about it for a little while, but then again it seemed impossible, so I focused on writing instead," I say, surprised that he asked me that,
"It wouldn't have been impossible. You have a really lovely singing voice, it's really calming and relaxing to listen to, I think you could've gone far in the music industry," I think about that for a while, Nathan sounds completely honest,
"Yeah, but, if I had I wouldn't have met you now would I?" I tell him, laughing and getting out of the car,
"I suppose so," Nathan agrees. I kiss him goodnight and then go inside, watching him drive away. My phone buzzes in my pocket, and I fish it out to see that it's Nathan, he's said:
I have a really awesome idea for you... xxxxx
I reply with:
Ooh, ok! And you shouldn't be using your phone whilst driving! xxxxx
I head up to bed, eager to fall asleep, and moderately excited about Nathan's 'idea'
