13. Chapter Thirteen

So the end of my first day in New York was finally over and I was unpacking my clothes into my closet  and dresser.  By the end of the day I'd mastered waitressing and made my fire escape look totally awesome.  I put some colored Christmas lights around the bars and hung some paper lanterns from the one above so they hung over my head. I really loved to hang out there but it was really cold so Emma and I just hung out in our little living room watching an all night marathon of Saved by the Bell. We had an awesome flat screen and comfy couch so I didn't want to get up.

"Her hair is so ugly." Emma commented.

"Whose?" I asked. There were three girls on the screen.

"All of them. Seriously, what's with the nineties?"

"I know, right? They look like they're going to sleep." I swear, I was wearing the same shirt that that girl Kelly was wearing. And I was in pajamas.

"Yeah." She yawned, and the episode ended. "I think I'm going to crash." She got up and walked to her room.

"Okay. I will, too." I went into my own room. We had already put my desk and computer in there, so I went to see if any of my friends were online to video chat. Marie and Jamie were on, and it looked like they were chatting, and I thought it would be rude to butt in. So I did. I sent them a chat request and right away they accepted.

"IZZY!" Marie exclaimed. "Hi! Oh my gosh I miss you so much! How's the city?"

"It's alright. I made some new friends." I said. "And get this, I joined a band!"

"Seriously?" Jamie looked shocked. "Without me?"

"Oh, sorry! I guess I forgot you sang." I didn't forget. She wasn't good.

"How could you forget? It's my dream!"

"I'm sorry..."

"It is not okay! Just because you moved to New York doesn't mean you can kick your friends to the curb!"

"I'm not kicking you to the curb! I sent you the chat request, didn't I? I could be watching TV but I cared enough to talk to my friends! You're just over reacting."

"No, I'm not! I thought best friends were supposed to support you but instead you kick me out of your life and decide to follow MY dream!"

"Jamie, it's not that big a deal!"

"Yes it is!"

"Jamie, I'm playing KEYBOARD!"

"Are you singing, too?"

"Well, yes, but I'm mostly keyboard!"

"Listen, Izzy, if you really cared about how I feel you should have asked me before you joined."

I seriously thought she was over reacting. That's how Jamie always was! I never thought it would lead to such a problem. I sighed. "Okay, I'm sorry, but do you want me to have fun in New York or just mope the whole time? This is my life now. I want to do something."

"Well you should have done something that wouldn't hurt me."

"Okay, Marie, what do you think?"

"I think Jamie is making too big a deal of this." She decided.

"See, Jamie? She's usually the reasonable one, so listen to her."

"I wasn't finished." Marie interrupted. "Izzy, I think you should think of your friends. You may live somewhere else now, but we're still your friends. Maybe you should have asked Jamie if she could let you sing, too, instead of just butting into her dreams of being a singer."

"But she's not good!" I blurted out. "Oh my god."

"IZZY!" Jamie exclaimed.

"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean it!"

"I can't believe you just said that!"

"I didn't mean it! I swear! It just came out of me!"

"Izzy that was so mean!" Marie said. "Do you care about us at all?"

"Yes! I do! You've got to believe me! Jamie, you're a good singer! You may need some SLIGHT work, but most people do! You can't let that get in the way of your dreams!"

She burst into tears. That drama queen. I could not believe that my friends were ganging up on me like this! All I did was make some friends and they asked me to be in their band! That doesn't affect Jamie at all! She was just jealous and Marie was taking her side, as always.

"Izzy, that was so terribly awful to say."

Suddenly, Olivia sent us a chat request. I noticed that Jamie was texting... that tattletale. Well that was just great! I wanted to decline, but Marie had already accepted.

"Izzy, what did you do to her?" Olivia said as soon as she came on.

"Why did you just assume it was me?" I asked, really pissed off.

"Well what could Marie do? She's a little sweetheart!"

"Thanks, Livvy." Marie smiled.

"When did you start calling her that?" I was so confused! We'd always called her Olivia.

"I was sad that you were gone and you wouldn't text us and I wanted a cool nickname like yours." Olivia explained. "But considering... whatever you did to Jamie, I guess I shouldn't have wanted one!"

"You don't even know what happened!"

Jamie coughed, and explained the whole stupid thing to Olivia.

She gasped. "Izzy, you jerk! You just tore Jamie's dreams apart and turned them into your own Frankenstein dream that's never going to come true!"

Okay, that one hurt. It was, yes, a sparking dream. I had thought about it and decided that it sounded really fun and that it was what I wanted to do. I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I was definitely considering a keyboard player and singer; in No Gravity, of course. "Okay, you keep saying that friends are supposed to be supportive, but you guys are being complete jerks to me!" Soon, Jade and Jenny came online. Jamie had clearly texted them the whole situation to them because they already knew.

"Izzy, I thought you were nice!" Jade said, disappointed.

"Yeah," Jenny agreed. "You're breaking her poor little heart."

"You guys are being so mean to me! I am so sorry for how I made her feel but you can't be serious. You guys seriously believe that only ONE person can sing in this group?"

"Well, Jamie kind of called it." Jade reasoned. Or at least tried to. "You should have asked her first. You could have done a duet."

"Know what guys? You don't care about how I feel in this situation. It's just that Jamie over reacted and you're taking her side! You obviously don't care about ME, so I don't care about you guys! Know what, I made some awesome friends today and they're twice as good as you. I'm done with you guys. You won't care though. You clearly hate me."

"Izzy..." Marie began.

"No! You've ganged up on me loads of times and I didn't care, but today I'm taking action. I'm done with you guys! And Olivia? You better bet my 'Frankenstein' dream will come true. I'll make sure of it. Goodbye."

I signed off before they could say anything. Then I just sat and stared at my computer for half an hour. I could not believe that the friends that I've had my entire life don't care about me. How could I have not realized this sooner? I thought. It was so obvious! I'm so stupid. Then I slapped myself in the face. You're not stupid! They're stupid. You have another chance now. There are a whole bunch of super nice people just across the street. Stick with them! But then I thought some more... They were my best friends for my whole life! What if they were right? I probably really hurt Jamie! I should have asked first, shouldn't I? It was her dream and it started coming true for me before her. I was basically arguing in my head like that for the entire time. I was so conflicted and frustrated... I began to cry. On one hand I was so upset that I had lost my best friends. On the other I was happy that life gave me another chance and a better friendship!

Finally I went to bed at midnight. I would have cried myself to sleep about my mistake... but my brain had one last thought to offer. Ignore them. You made a mistake sticking with them after all of those fights of yours. But now you have awesome friends! Especially Ty and Mickey. They're your new best friends. Your new best friends are Ty and Mickey...

My new best friends are Ty and Mickey.
