"Hi, Daddy." My mouth dropped. I was speechless. How could Laylah talk already? How is this happening? "How?"
"I have no idea." Abby smiled.
"Daddy, I hungry."
"Uh.. okay, honey. I'll get you a bottle." I walked past my family, keeping my eyes locked on Laylah. I started down the steps, looking back occasionally. Is this a dream? It has to be. This is impossible. A week year old baby with down syndrome talking? It can't happen. Abby walked into the bedroom. I made it to the kitchen. I walked to the sink and splashed some water in my face, seeing if it would wake me from this impossible dream. Nothing. I just stood there with a soaked head. I grabbed a dish towel and wiped my face off. I shook my hair with my hands, pushing it back on my forehead and out of my face. I remembered what I came to the kitchen for and got some milk out of the fridge and poured it into a bottle. I put some formula in it and stuck it in the microwave. I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn't even notice Liam was standing right in front of me.
"Harry?" He said, waving his hand in front of my face.
"Huh, what?" I said, pulling myself out of my trance.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, just a little shocked."
"Yeah. Crazy isn't it?"
"Crazy doesn't even begin to explain it."
"It's amazing though, right?"
"Yeah. Pretty amazing. I think I'm gonna take her to the doctor to get checked out."
"That would probably be best."
The microwave went off, ending our conversation. I got the bottle out and twisted the cap on. I went back upstairs and to the room. I walked in the door slowly. I smiled when I saw Abby talking to Laylah. She looked up at me with her beautiful blue eyes shining. She smiled at me. I walked over and handed Laylah the bottle. She took it and started drinking. "We need to get her checked out." I whispered in Abby's ear. She nodded.
"Laylah, honey. We're going to go to the doctor, okay?" She took the bottle out of her mouth.
"Okay." She said. We got up and went to the car. Jade and Liam are coming with us. So, it was me driving, Abby in the passenger seat, Laylah behind me, Jade in the middle, and Liam behind Abby. I can't believe what's happening right now.
