All I Need Is Love

“You deserve better, Claire. You know that right?” Harry said. I thought about that for a second. And without looking into his eyes, I responded. “I guess I just accepted it because I thought I deserved it,” I took a deep breath as I felt the tears start to form. “But I just can’t believe I lost him.” He scooted a little closer to me, so that our knees were touching. “Answer me this. How could you lose something that you never even had?” he said softly. Now I looked at him. “That’s why it hurts so much. Because I stood there and made him my everything, when in reality, he treated me like nothing. And I lost myself trying to hold on to someone who didn’t really care about losing me.”

6. Pool Party

I woke up really happy, and that was the first time I’ve done that in a long time. And then I felt the earplugs in my ears and saw Ed Sheeran on my ipod screen and remembered the events that occurred that night before. My smile quickly grew into a frown at the thought. I got up and did the morning routine that I do every morning. Because nothing changes, and I hate it. So I picked out my clothes for the day, took a warm shower, and put my hair in a messy ponytail.

I got out my toothpaste and toothbrush and started brushing my teeth as I walked downstairs. I went in the kitchen and set out a pan on the stove and a toaster on the counter. I put two pieces of white bread in the toaster for two minutes. Then I cracked two eggs and let the yolk fall into a mug. I added a dash of pepper and started mixing it before I poured it in the pan and turned on the stove.

I let it cook for a little bit and walked past my living room to head upstairs.

“Good morning, Hairy Clairy.”

“Hey Harry.”

I did a double take. HARRY?! What is he doing on my couch?! In my living room?! In my house?!

“What are you doing here?! How-h-how did you get in?!” I screamed, making the toothpaste and spit fall from my mouth and onto my clothes.

He made a gagging noise and covered his eyes. I laughed a little, making even more toothpaste fall out. I ran over to the sink and spit the rest out, grabbing a rag on my way back to the couch. Harry uncovered his eyes and spoke up.

“You should really hide your spare key in a less obvious place,” he said. “By the way, your food is on fire.”

What was he talking about? And then I looked at my eggs which were now in flames.

“OH MY GOD!” I screamed.

I ran over to the stove and panicked because, of course, I don’t have a fire extinguisher. I grabbed the mug, which was really small, and quickly filled it up with water. I poured it on the fire and repeated that action. I refilled the mug about ten times before the fire completely stopped.

I wiped the sweat off my forehead and looked at Harry, who was now on the ground laughing hysterically.

“Oh, you think that’s funny?” I said angrily.

He sat up, still laughing.

“Yeah, I do actually.”

I gave him the death glare for a few seconds, just hoping that I wouldn’t kill him right then and there.

“Go play in traffic,” I finally said as I walked upstairs.

“Oh, sure! And you can come with me!” he screamed with fake happiness.

I really hope he doesn’t show up at my house every morning. He is just so difficult.

I changed my clothes because I got my toothpaste all over them. It was 1:47 and we had to be at Louis’ house for two. I put on my pink floral bathing suit with the matching bottoms and put a hand over my stomach.

“Fat ass,” I whispered under my breath.

Then I put on my jean shorts and a light blue tank top to cover myself. I let my medium length, thick, dirty blond hair fall down and be free. Then I grabbed sunglasses and my flip-flops and headed downstairs.

“Well it’s about time,” an annoyed Harry said.

He had a “Beatles” t-shirt on and swim trunks with a towel and sunscreen in his hand.

“Shut up. You’re wasting time telling me that I wasted time,” I said walking past him and out the door.

“You just wasted more time,” he said following me.

We hopped into his car, this time he was driving.

“You always have to have the last word, don’t you?” I asked angrily.

He started the engine and drove off. I thought he was actually speechless.

“No. I just always need to beat you,” he said with a smirk. And that was the last thing either of said until we got to Louis’ house.

“Haz!” Eleanor said as she ran over to us, giving Harry a welcoming hug. “Claire?!” she looked at me now. “What are you doing here?” she kindly asked.

“Uh….well….I’m uh….”

“She’s…..um….she’s my girlfriend!” Harry cut in. He put his arm around my shoulder and smiled at me, giving me a look that said “just play along”.

“Yeah! We’re madly in love,” I laughed….a little too hard.

“You’ve already said I love you to each other?” Eleanor asked questioningly.

“No!” I said. “Well…we…erm….”

“It just kind of slipped out on our first date,” Harry assured.

“Oh. Where was your first date?” Eleanor asked.

“KF-“

“The park!” Harry butted in. “Yeah, being the charming man I am, I set up a picnic for the two of us under the stars.”

He was good.

“Okay, well nice chatting with you, El, but we must get going,” Harry said as he ushered me away very quickly. I turned around and saw Eleanor standing with her arms folded, clearly not persuaded.

“Harry, I don’t think she bought it,” I said to him.

“Bought what?” Suddenly, Louis appeared in front of us holding a drink in his hand.

“Uh…bought those cookies we were selling!” Harry jumped in.

“Cookies? I want a cookie,” Louis said.

“Oh, well. We’ll go get you one bye!” I said as we ran away.

When we walked in the mansion it was filled with people. There was really loud music playing and everyone was talking and dancing along to the beat. There was red plastic cups filled with alcohol everywhere you looked- in people’s hands, on the tables, on the floor, in the pool.

When we walked past the giant living room, we spotted Liam, Zayn, Danielle, and Perrie chatting on the couch.

“Hey mate!” Zayn waved over to Harry. Then he looked at me and gave me a questioningly look.

Harry grabbed my hand and I tried to pull away, but then I stopped myself when I remembered what he said.

“We’re dating,” Harry said as he held up our interlocked fingers and we continued to walk.

I could tell that all four of them were astonished at the thought because everyone, and I mean everyone, knew that Harry and I hated each other’s guts.

“You don’t even want to talk to them?” I asked.

“Haven’t you noticed that talking is blowing our cover?” he replied.

“Having them just look at us together is blowing our cover,” I said.

“Shut up.”

Then I spotted Niall, sitting alone in a fold-up chair by the pool. He had sunglasses on, so I couldn’t see his beautiful eyes. But Harry looked right past Niall and headed to the water.

“C’mon,” he led the way.

We chose a spot on the side of the pool that was opposite from Niall. I laid out my towel and sat down, not knowing what to do.

Then, Harry decided to take off his shirt. Gosh, his abs just glistened in the sunlight, making him look so strong and manly; which he obviously isn’t. But I couldn’t help but stare- partly because I just couldn’t look away, and partly because there was nowhere else to look.

“Like what you see, eh?” Harry said, smiling.

“Yeah, in your dreams. I’ve seen better. Much better,” I retorted.

He shot me a look and then turned around and jumped in the pool. When he came above the surface, he shook his hair like a dog, trying to get all the water off.

“You coming in?” he asked.

I covered my stomach up, even though I still had my clothes on, and shook my head abruptly. He just kind of shrugged and then disappeared back under the water. I went over to the side of the pool and dipped my feet in, kicking them slowly back and forth, feeling the cold water immediately freeze my small toes.

Suddenly, Niall got up from his chair and walked towards me. He mimicked my position and folded his arms.

“So, ClaireBear. Do you want to tell me why you’re following me?” he asked with that friendly smile that he always gave me when I was keeping something from him.

“I’m not following you, little Nialler. I’m here with um….I’m here with Harry,” I said quietly.

“Harry?” he stopped kicking his feet and stared at me, shocked.

“Yeah….we’re…..we-we’re dating,” I said even more quiet than before, hoping he wouldn’t hear.

“DATING?!” he started cracking up laughing.

Crap.

Then he looked at my serious face and stopped laughing. “You-you’re not kidding?”

I shook my head slowly. He looked away from me, not happy with this idea. But he wasn’t upset either. He was just….neutral. Then he stood up and held out a hand for me, but I didn’t accept it. Now he looked hurt.

“Well,” he said as he took off his sunglasses and stretched out his muscly biceps. “Since you and Harry are dating, then I suppose you’re coming on tour with us?”

I looked into his powerful blue-green eyes. They mesmerized me, and took me to a different world. I didn’t even feel myself smile and nod my head until turned around and left me there.

Oh my God. What did I just do?! Oh, that’s right. I just agreed to spend months with Harry in a bus and multiple hotel rooms. And maybe even the same bed! No no no no no this is unacceptable. I did not sign up for this!

Suddenly, I felt a large hand grab my foot. And then Harry poked his eyes above the water. I could feel him smirking. Then he gave my foot a small tug.

“Ha ha very funny. Now let go of my-“

And then I was under water, in my only clothes, begging for air. And when I didn’t come up, Harry pulled me up bridal style and literally started freaking out. I stayed like that tricking him with my eyes closed and my mouth open, until I felt him move closer to my lips. I couldn’t help it. I slapped him across the face, making him fall under.

“What the hell?!” he screamed, gasping for air.

“Well, you were about to kiss me! I wasn’t going to let you do that!” I defended.

“I was trying to save you!”

“I didn’t need to be saved I was faking!”

He looked at me with a horrified expression.

“You’re so ratchet,” he finally said.

“No! You’re ratchet!” I screamed.

“Oh, really? And how is that?”

“Because you just have to go on tour for three whole months do you?!”

“What? What does that have to do with anything?” he asked, his tone getting quieter.

I swam away from him to the shallow end of the pool, hoping he’ll drop it. But when he swam over to me, I knew he wasn’t going to.

“Okay, so…I might have told Niall that I was going on tour with you….” I said looking at the ground and fiddling with my fingers.

“What have you done?” he asked. He looked like he was scared for his life; I was too.

“It’s not my fault! It was his eyes!” I protested. “Can we get out of it?”

Liam walked out of the house and came over to where we were at the edge of the pool. “I can’t wait to see you every day when we’re on tour, Claire!” he said right before he disappeared back into the mansion.

Harry looked at me angrily. He didn’t move at all. He didn’t even blink.

“I. Hate. You.” He said in between breaths.

“The feeling’s mutual,” I snapped back at him.
