12. Payzer Reunion
We've been waiting for her for a while now. Niall got hungry(as usual) and went off to get some food. Louis was with El, enjoying their frappes from Starbucks while Harry was on his phone, probably scrolling through his Twitter mentions. I'm glad those Twitter trolls don't affect him as much as they did before. Taylor was beside Harry, scribbling something down on her notepad. Probably some lyrics for an album. I check my wristwatch. We've been here for half an hour. My toes are tingling with anticipation, anxiously awaiting her arrival. I've missed her tremendously.
''Is she here yet?'' Niall asked from behind me,clearly bored. His mouth was stuffed and it annoyed me that he was spitting out crumbs but I didn't want to upset him over it. Especially since Jamie's not here with us. We've all been taking it quite hard because it was so sudden. Niall's been hit the hardest. And we've all been trying to keep his mind off her-offering him our food, even Harry, who is usually the one to steal food off OUR plates. But when you love someone THAT much, like how I love Danielle, you can't help but think about her every day.
''Not yet,mate,'' I answer,a little disappointed.
''Niall, check your phone,'' Zayn calls from his seat, where he has his arm draped around Perrie.
Niall whips his phone and reads the text message. He laughs a little then keeps his phone.
''Thanks, Zayn,'' he says to the handsome Bradford boy.
My eyes focus back on the departure hall, looking out for that really curly hair or those gorgeous eyes. And when I do, I can't help but grin. I resist the urge to run over to her and sweep her off her feet, smashing my lips to hers and instead, opt for the cooler, controlled boyfriend.
''Li,'' she murmurs contentedly, leaving her suitcase behind her as she wraps her arms around my neck, having to stand on her toes. The boys have all stood up and grouped around us, welcoming Danielle back. She looks exhausted, probably from having worked so hard and rehearsing for her performances. I lean down and give her a kiss, the warmness and softness of her lips upon mine sending me tingles right down to my toes. Louis wolf-whistles and we pull away, smiling widely.
''I missed you,'' she whispers in my ear as we hug.
''Me too,'' I tell her, her sweet perfume filling my nostrils. I intertwine my fingers in hers and before I can carry her suitcase for her, our entourage has already picked it up. Since her flight landed at 2 in the morning, there were hardly any fans around, which made it much easier to go unnoticed.
''So where's this 'Jamie' I've heard so much about?'' she asked innocently. I glanced at Niall, who was looking away, his hands in his pockets. I know how much it must've hurt.
''She's in Florida, with her father. I'll tell you all about it later,'' I whispered into her ear. She nodded, understanding and she looked at Niall, her eyes full of sympathy.
''That's horrible. And it's so close to Christmas,'' she remarks, her voice a whisper.
''It's complicated,'' I reply and she understands the signal.
We all return to our individual flats, seizing this opportunity to spend the days management gave us as holidays with our girlfriends. As soon as Danielle and I stepped into my flat, I closed the door, put her suitcase to one side and swept her off her feet. She giggled and wrapped her arms around my neck. We never stopped kissing all the way to the bedroom...
A WEEK LATER...
It's been a whole week since Jamie left to spend time with her father. I understand why she had to leave and I'm not angry at her at all for choosing to leave, but I'm not too happy about it either. To make things worse, it's Christmas eve today. And Jamie said she'd be back before Christmas. I decided to do a last-minute Twitcam for the Directioners, out of boredom. I was waiting for 9pm to come because every night since she's left,Jamie and I have been Skyping, like she promised. Nothing too cheeky. I fumble with the keys and get a little agitated. I've already left a link on Twitter but a lot of them have been saying that they can't hear me. I'm exhausted from all the photoshoots and meetings we've had this past week but I'm not sleepy. And I can't sleep without Jamie saying goodnight.
After doing twelve minutes, I give up my weak attempt at doing a Twitcam and decide to get myself a bottle of water. I chug down a few swigs, quenching my thirst.
''Niall?'' I hear a familiar voice from my laptop. I rush over to the screen and see her face there, smiling at me. Automatically, I grin back. I take off my hat and run my fingers through my messy hair briefly, although I know Jamie wouldn't care how I looked.
''There's me little potato,'' I tease, her lips curling up to a wider smile.
''I've missed your Irish accent,'' she remarks.
''Then why'd you leave?'' I asked, trying to make it sound like a tease. Nevertheless, her face fell. I tried to feel sorry but I could'nt. She was the one who chose to leave me. I know I'm being selfish but I can't help it.
''You know I...''she started, crossing her legs and fidgeting with her fingers.
''Yeah I know,I know,'' I stopped her.
''I'm sorry,'' she apologized.
''Don't apologize. I understand. I was just being selfish, like the eejit I am,'' I joked, hoping to make her smile.
''Yeah. MY eejit,'' she corrected, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. The quality of the video chat on Skype wasn't that good but it was enough. At least I got to see her and hear her voice.
''When are you coming back? It's Christmas Eve and you said you'd be back before Christmas. The lads and I have made our flat up. We decided to celebrate at my place,'' I told her, aware that the lads probably chose my place to distract me from Jamie.
''I know, and I miss you and the boys terribly. My flight is supposed to be tomorrow but...''
''It's snowing,'' I finish her sentence for her. She looks at her hands on her lap.
''Yeah,'' she murmurs.
''So, you're not coming back for Christmas then?'' I repeated, disappointed.
''I guess so,'' she said.
I couldn't bare it any longer.
''Listen, I'm wrecked. I'm gonna go to sleep,'' I told her, ending the conversation much earlier than normal.
''Oh,'' she acknowledged. ''Okay then. Rest well. I love you,'' she told me. I looked at her, just staring.
''I love you too,'' I replied eventually. She smiled a little.
''Merry Christmas,Niall,'' she said, trying to sound cheerful.
''Merry Christmas to you too,'' I said, before closing the flap. I pushed the laptop aside and switched on the telly, deciding to watch some derby since I couldn't sleep and was feeling restless. Simultaneously, I picked up my guitar and started strumming 'Heart Attack'. Eventually, as the game ended, I fell asleep.
I awoke, startled, to the repeated knocking-more like pounding-on my door. I jumped off the bed, nearly tripping on the many pieces of laundry that lay on the floor. Someone would have to clean that up eventually. I opened the door.
''We wish you a Merry Christmas,'' they started screaming loudly and cheerfully. I got lifted and dumped back onto the sofa, making me groan in pain but waking me up completely nonetheless. I chuckled, realising the culprits. Right in front of me, were my best mates and their girlfriends. Everyone who I wanted to celebrate Christmas with was here. I guess we really weren't going to celebrate Christmas with Jamie after all.
