Life is great for Jamie Sullivan. Everything seems to be falling place. She has her family around her and she's having the time of her life with the boys One Direction-Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and the love of her life, Niall Horan. And she is truly, genuinely happy. She couldn't possibly ask for anything more. But nothing is permanent. When a stranger somehow connected to her past enters her life, things start to change. How will these 'changes' affect the relationships between Jamie and the boys, especially the one with Niall? Will this stranger make Jamie's life better than it already is? Or will she lose the happiness she's been trying so hard to hold on to?

41. Pain

What is pain?

Is it an emotion? A sensation? Or a state of mind? If this is pain, then...I feel nothing.

I'm numb.

Jamie jumped, the deafening blast of gunshot ringing her ears. She turned around to see Sullivan laying on the ground, breathing shallow. He was down. She wondered how it happened so fast. She turned around again, glancing at James, until her eyes finally rested on Niall. And in that moment, she was overcome with such relief, such happiness that she felt like she could fly. She didn't care if he didn't love her like she loved him. She knew that he cared, and that was enough. She couldn't expect him to love her unconditionally. Right now, she was overcome with such joy that it made her dizzy. As if she would collapse from all the adrenaline and relief.

Wait.

Something was wrong.

A debilitating pain shot through her left shoulder. She held her hand close to her heart. It hurt. It was bleeding. Her hand, covered in scars and scratches, was covered in blood. The warmer layer of blood that coated the dried one scared her.She looked at Niall, with frightened eyes. He was running towards her, trying to catch her as she felt herself falling. Her legs were too weak, her body was failing.

Jamie fell to her knees, shaking.

She fell to her side, her vision blurring. The last thing she saw as she lay on the ground was figures, faceless silhouettes all running towards her, shouting intelligible words. She couldn't understand.

Then, everything ended.
