I was scrolling through my mentions on Twitter, reading through some comments from the nicer Directioners, who wished me a Merry Christmas and passing those from Twitter trolls. We were all sitting on the parquet floor of Niall's flat-where we had decided to celebrate Christmas because we thought it'd make him feel better. I logged off my Twitter account and set my phone aside. I pulled Perrie in closer and she rested her head on my shoulder. I kissed the top of her head, grateful that she was able to be here with me. I pulled her chin up and softly pressed my lips upon hers, enjoying the warm sensation of her lips upon mine. Just like Perrie and I, Harry and Louis and their respective girlfriends were tangled in each other's arms, making the most of the time they had together. Although Harry and Taylor had planned to spend New Year's eve together and go on vacation in the Carribean(as Harry had told us), they still seemed so desperate to get into a lip-lock. Or maybe it was just Harry.
Eventually, I pulled away from Perrie, whose rosy red cheeks complimented her purple hair nicely. The dim lighting made Perrie look even more gorgeous than she usually is,which surprised me. I realised how much I loved her and how I would never do anything to hurt her or anything that would risk losing her. I wrapped my arms around her shoulders and watched Niall, who was strumming his guitar, his face glum.
"Why don't you play us a song, mate?" I asked Niall, who acknowledged my request with a simple nod. It was so unlike of Niall to be so...not Niall - the Irish boy who was always jumping around, eating and laughing. Seeing him like this-without Jamie- was horrible and seeing him cry was even worse. I knew how hard it must be, not being able to celebrate Christmas with your girlfriend-something I knew Niall was looking forward to these past few days.
"White lips, pale face, breathing in snowflakes...burnt lungs, sour taste..." Niall started singing, until there was a knock on the door. Niall's head perked up and he put his guitar aside, slowly standing up and walking towards the door.
"Did I miss anything?"
"No,mate," I answered. Liam looked at me, taking off his coat and placing it on a chair. He nodded at me and I nodded back at him. Liam proceeded to take a seat in the circle. Danielle had a last minute change in plans and Liam had just sent her to the airport to see her off. Everytime Danielle left, it left Liam crushed. But it helped that Danielle and him would talk to each other via Skype every other night.
"A minute till Christmas!" Louis yelled suddenly. I knew it wasn't tradition to open your presents util the next morning but Niall looked like he needed some cheering up. His blue eyes were glossy and the lack of noise that was usually originating from him was unsettling.
'Can you get me some water, please Lou," Eleanor pleaded. All the snogging with Lou must've made her thirsty.
"Sure, babe," Louis chirped, bending down to kiss her before he went to the kitchen.
I could tell Harry and I were thinking the same thing as I saw his face scrunched up as he glanced between Lou and Eleanor. The beautiful brunette noticed the exchange of dirty looks and threw a cushion at Harry.
"Ow!" Harry groaned. Taylor was laughing at him, as we all were. Even Niall was smiling."What was that for?"
"I take politics in Uni. I study the body language of politicians and it was pretty easy to tell what you were thinking," she pointed out intelligently.
Louis laughed at Harry as he took his seat and passed the bottle of water to his girlfriend. I checked the time on my phone.
"This is perfect," Perrie whispered into my ear,her warm breath sending tingles down my spine.
"It is with you here," I replied, kissing the tip of her nose. She smiled and snuggled closer to me.
"3...2...1..." Louis counted.
"Merry Christmas!" we all shouted, probably waking up the neighbours. Harry and Louis proceeded to run and pick up Niall, and run around the house with Niall, who was laughing, in the air. Liam was typing something on his phone, ocassionally glancing up and laughing at Harry and Louis who were chasing each other.
"Are they always like this?" Perrie asked in her thick Georgian accent.
"Surprisingly, yes," Liam answered, keeping his phone.
When the game of cat and mouse finally ended, we all sat down and passed the presents around. Niall was looking more cheerful this time as he had a pint of beer within reach(given by Louis). Eventually, half an hour later, we had all opened the presents and thanked each other. We'd be returning to our families tomorrow to celebrate Christmas with them-a well-deserved break from all our hard work as Uncle Si had said-and that meant even more presents.
"Oh wait, there's one more," I said as I took the envelope out of my back pocket and passed it to Niall.
"What's this? Is this from..Jamie?" he asked incredulously. He stood up and walked into his bedroom and closed the door.
"Just give him his privacy," Liam advised those with the questioning looks on their face. Liam and I stood up and opened the door to Niall's flat.
"Come on,it's freezing out there," Liam invited.
I smiled at her, happy to see her.
"Jelly?!" Louis screamed but Liam managed to tackle him in time. All their faces, except Liam and mine, has shocked expressions on their faces, clearly not aware of the secret Liam and I had been hiding. Jamie had been staying at her aunt's flat since last night, when she got back to London from Florida. She wanted to surprise Niall.
"Hey," she whispered, dragging in a bag of presents that Liam helped to carry in. Once inside, she took of her coat, scarf and beanie and blew into her hands."It's freezing out there," she said, shivering slightly. Immediately, all of us enveloped her in a huge hug. Louis and Harry kissed her cheeks.
"What a welcome," she joked, hugging Taylor,Perrie and Eleanor.
"We missed you," Eleanor said, saying what was on all our minds.
"I missed all of you too," she said, her eyes welling up. She sniffled a little, still smiling. "You all opened your presents without me?" she teased in a disappointed voice.
"We didn't know you were coming," Harry answered.
She laughed."I was just kidding. It's all in the plan," she said. Then, she looked around. "Where's the Irish one?"
"He's in his room, reading your letter," I told her, as I kissed her cheek after Liam did.
"Oh," she replied. She took of her gloves and set them aside. She gestured towards us to follow her. When we were outside Niall's bedroom door, she nodded towards me. I understood what she meant and knocked on it a few times.
"What?" Niall answered from the other side, his voice thick.
"Open the door, will you?" Liam called. We listened carefully as he opened the door without looking at us and walked back to his bed, fumbling with his laptop.
"What are you doing?" I asked as we all walked in quietly, Niall clearly oblivious to Jamie's presence.
"I'm trying to talk to Jamie but she isn't here," he said, as he checked his phone. He dialed in a few digits and pressed the phone to his ear.
Jamie's phone rang and she held her phone in her hand, waiting for him to turn around. Niall slowly turned his head, his eyes widening and his mouth gaping open. The girls were giggling, though Jamie seemed a bit speechless.
"Hi,Niall," Jamie breathed.
Niall immediately threw his phone away and ran to pick up Jamie in his arms, crashing his lips to hers.
"We should probably give them some privacy," Taylor suggested. We all snickered and quietly walked towards the door.
"But...but..."Harry muttered,reluctant to leave.
"Come on,Curly," Taylor said, tugging him away. I closed the door tightly, letting Niall and Jamie have the time they wanted with each other. The time they needed with each other.
