That week had been the slowest week I had ever endured. It just went on and on. I missed school yesterday, because we travelled up to Canberra to go to a funeral... no prizes for guessing whose. Niall came too, even though he had only personally known her for about half an hour.
Today was Saturday. I had no idea what I was going to do. I decided it would be the perfect day to just lay in bed and do... nothing. I used to love Saturdays. Now, they were just painful. I hated it. Every second of it.
I was lost in thought until my alarm went off. Great. Now I had to get out of bed to turn it off. I half-heartedly stood up and walked to my closet, picking up my phone along the way. Switching off the alarm, I picked out some random clothes. I shook my head. Stuff it. I threw the clothes on the ground and went back to bed, pulling the covers over my head. I'm not going to do anything today. It was going to be a miserable Saturday.
Should I tell Lilli now? Maybe she's asleep. Or maybe this wasn't the best idea. I told her I loved her... and I did, but I was just worried she would be confused. I tell her I love her, and then I just leave her to enter a competition? I would be confused if I was her.
Stop it, Niall. This was what I had wanted for years. I couldn't let anyone get in the way. Not Jay, not Lilli... no, her best friend just died, I couldn't leave her.
I was sitting at the kitchen table, playing with my food. Normally, I'm inhaling it, but not today.
'Everything ok?' my mum asked, poking her head around the corner.
'Yeah.' I smiled. 'Everything's cool.'
Everything's cool. Yes, I'm sure everything was cool. Depends on what you define as 'cool'. Everything wasn't cool.
I've gotta tell her. I can't pull out of this competition now. I left my food on the table to go cold and ran up the stairs to my room.
I sat down on my unmade bed, picking up my phone and dialling Lilli's number.
'Hey, Lilli?' I said, when she picked up.
'Hey, Niall. What's up?'
'Oh, nothing really. I have something I want to tell you. I want you to know before anyone else at school.'
'What?' Suddenly, she sounding extremely alert.
'I'm auditioning for the X Factor.'
I had finally drifted off to sleep when my phone started ringing, violently vibrating against my bedside table. I goraned and checked the Caller ID. Niall. Thanks, for that, Niall.
'Hey, Lilli?' he sounded weird... I don't know why. Chances were he was eating.
'Hey, Niall. What's up?'
'Oh, nothing really. I have something I want to tell you. U want you to know before anyone else at school.'
Suddenly, I was really, 100% interested. 'What?
'I'm auditioning for X Factor.' As soon as the words came out of his mouth, I was struck. Why was he leaving me? He couldn't not now! Now, when I needed him! When he was the only person who would sit by me and comfort me at school.
I put on a brave face and tried to sound cheery. 'Really?' I asked. 'Way to go, Niall! I didn't know you could sing!'
'So... you don't mind?'
'No! I think it would be an awesome expreience for you!'
He sighed. 'Thanks for understanding, you know, a guy's gotta achieve his dreams.'
'Yeah, yeah, I know. Thanks for telling me. When are you leaving to audition?'
'A few weeks. I'm auditioning in Dublin.' There was a silence for a moment. 'So.. you really don't care?'
'No, you're going to do amazing! I know you will.'
'I thought you said you didn't know I could sing.' Niall laughed.
'Well, you're auditioning for X Factor, you gotta be pretty good.'
'Yeah... so I'll talk to you later?'
So he's leaving in a couple of weeks. Leaving me here to deal with school. To deal with loneliness. To deal with... nobody. Exactly. There's going to be nobody for me to be around.
She said she doesn't care. I don't know if I believe her....
Hey e-ver-ee-one! Thanks again for reading my storyyyyy! In the next chapter, Niall confesses to his best friend that he has feelings for Lilli, but will he be able to gather up the courage to ask her out?
This story has actually been a little bit more successful in terms of people liking and favouriting then my other one... I don't know if I've already said that, but thank you for that, everyone! Thanks for reading!
