"11!?" I questioned as we walked down my driveway. Niall simply laughed and said, "Yeah...I've got a few things planned." That's what made me nervous. The whole point of this was to cut loose, but with a reckless father like mine, cutting loose was the last thing I wanted to do. That half smile was just so persuasive.....
We continued down the street in peaceful silence. It seemed that Niall had everything planned out, but as if he had done it in that very moment. I never had that quality, so I was used to planning everything out quite some time beforehand.
"So where exactly are we going?" I asked, growing frustrated. "You'll see," he smiled and winked.Oh my, was he attractive. "Stop it!" I finally complained and stopped in my tracks. He gave me a quizzical look. "What?"
"Oh you know what! Stop being so charming, and perfect, and PHOTOSHOPPED!"
"Yes, photoshopped! You look too perfect to be real! And you act like you don't know how charming you look!" I clenched my fists and tightened my jaw, expecting for him to explode the same way I just did. But, of course, he never did anything as expected.
"Well, is that....good?" Was the only response.
I smacked my forehead with my palm and looked up. "Did I seriously just say that? Yeah I did. And now I hate myself. Okay, I'm going home now." I turned around, knowing I was completely red.
"Wait!" I stopped and turned around. He ran up to me and stood in front of me. "Don't go! Please? I wasn't expecting that at all, but at least you cut loose!" Niall smiled sheepishly. I couldn't help but smile back. "Now I promised that I would show you how to let go for a day. A promise is a promise." We turned back around and resumed our pace down the street in a calm, peaceful silence.
"So...photoshopped eh?" Yes. He brought it up again. I hid my face in my hands. He was still waiting for an answer, so I parted my fingers slightly and looked at him. "Drop it. Please?" I begged. Niall laughed and pointed to a small shack at the end of the beach. I've never seen it before; I never went to this part of town. I looked to Niall for an explanation. "I did a little exploring last week and found this place." I nodded.
It was definitely quaint. The shack had a straw roof and was barely big enough to be called a shed. There was a door in the back, and a bar counter with three stools on the other. A man was cleaning it off with a rag. I could now see it was a tiny bar-type thing.
"Hey Steve" Niall said as he sat down and motioned for me to do the same. There was an old-school radio on the counter with Oath by Cher Lloyd blasting. "Laughing so damn hard
Crashed your dad's new car
All the scars we share
I Promise, I swear"
"Haha, that's my favorite song!" I commented.
"Wherever you go, just always remember
That you got a home for now and forever" Niall started to lip sync mockingly. I laughed and joined in.
"And if you get low, just call me whenever
This is my oath to you
Wherever you go, just always remember
You never alone, we're birds of a feather
And we'll never change, no matter the weather
This is my oath to you" we ended up just laughing after that part.
"GURL, you cray." Niall said in a fake girl voice; snapping his fingers.
"Yeah. I'm the crazy one," I teased.
'Steve' popped back up from behind the counter. I hadn't even realized that he left.
"So what do ya guys want?" He said in a thick Jamaican accent. He had quite interesting, short dreadlocks; only about shoulder length.
"Umm, a kiwi banana smoothie," Niall said. I cringed.
"Kiwi banana?! Ew! I'll have a mango one." Steve nodded and began making both smoothies.
"So how'd you find this place?" I asked.
"I was looking for quiet a place to start writing a new song, and I just happened to be riding my longboard down here." I nodded. It sounded like a valid response.
We finished our smoothies rather quickly. Niall stood and motioned for me to follow. I was curious, so I didn't even bother to ask what we were to do next. After walking down the beach for a few minutes, Niall stopped, with a thoughtful expression. Suddenly, he ran towards the water, fully clothed. Niall threw his shoes off as he ran. I was still too confused to grasp the fact that he dove in to the waves. When his head emerged a minute later, he was calling for me to follow. "Come on! Do something completely unplanned and reckless remember?" I put my hands on my hips. He wasn't serious was he? Either way, I took my shoes off and jogged towards the shore and stood at the edge. "Come on!" Niall called again. I finally dove right in.
One problem. Niall was no where to be seen.
Something grabbed my ankle underwater. Being the spaz that I am, I screamed. Really loud. Niall popped up next to me from underwater. "Easy! It just me!" He said, barely controlling his laughing. I scowled and splashed him. Of course, he splashed back. After a while of splashing, we finally came out of the water to dry off.
"Is this it?" I asked.
"Is this what?"
"Is this all you have planned?".
"Hahaha no." He said with a mischievous grin, getting up yet again.
For the rest of the day, we did everything that I never really though about doing.
Running on the beach for no reason. Singing loudly. All of the things that I thought were just plain pointless. For dinner, he ordered a five pound hamburger.
By the time we were done with the enormous meal, the sun had begun to set.
"I've got one more thing planned." Niall admitted. I raised my eyebrows.
"And what might that be?"
"You'll see" was all I got in return. He led me back to the beach, but in a different spot.
There were logs lined up in a small circle. Niall took a box of matches out of his pocket, struck a match, and tossed it into the circle. The logs erupted into a small fire.
We sat and talked for hours. "So, didya like 'cutting loose'?" I smiled and nodded. I really did like it. Soon after, I drifted off to just the sound of waves, wind, and a crackling fire.
