I sat on my bed and sighed. It had been a long day. I looked at the picture of me and Liam. The last one we took together. It was sitting on my nightstand, mocking me. Teasing what we had had together. I grabbed it and laid down.
I rubbed Liam's back as he cried. He caught his girlfriend cheating on him. I couldn't help but feel some joy in my stomach because he was single now, but I knew I shouldn't. He was my best friend. I had to be supportive.
"I'm going to try out for the X-Factor." He said all of a sudden. Joy. Now he could sing a song to that girl and get back together with her. Be supportive, Brandin, be supportive.
"Oh?" I asked. "What are you singing?" Dumb question. I mentally slapped myself. He just decided now that he was trying out, why would he know?
"Cry Me A River." Liam said very confidently. I smiled a little. Perfect song.
"I'm so nervous, Brandin." Liam said to me.
"Don't be, you'll do great." I said with a smile. He hugged me tightly and walked onto the stage. He totally rocked his song. In your face, ex-girlfriend. He walked off stage after making it through and I ran into his arms.
"That. Was. AWESOME!" I yelled when he put me down. "I'm so proud of you." I hugged him quick again.
"Aw, Brandin, it was amazing up there." Liam said. "I wanna do this my whole life. Sing, I mean." Wow. That would be quite the life, I must say.
"There's a good chance." I said grinning.
I stood backstage when the male solo singers were brought to the stage. Now I had to wait and pray that Liam's name would be called. The judges rattled off six names. None of them Liam's. I sighed. Stay strong, Brandin. He walked off stage with tears in his eyes. I pulled him into a hug.
"Liam, you did your best. That's what matters." I whispered. Gosh, I sounded like a mother.
"That's what sucks." He took a breath. "It sucks when you're told your best isn't good enough." He sniffed. I wiped away tears that inadvertently fell down his face.
"Don't talk like that Liam." I said. "You're best was too good." He grinned at that.
"Liam. Payne." We turned around. A lady had called his name.
"Why did she just call my name?" Liam asked me.
"I have no idea, just go over there!" I gave him a push and he walked over. He listened to what the lady said and looked at me. He motioned at the stage. He had to go on. I nodded, encouraging him.
After 10 minutes he came back running at me and pulling me into a bear hug.
"THEY PUT ME IN A GROUP!!! I'M MOVING ON!!!" He yelled in my ear.
"SHUT UP!!!!!" I squealed when he released me. This was amazing. He was one step closer to his dream. "I told you your best was too good." I said punching his arm.
"Hey, wanna meet the boys?" Liam asked me.
"Umm..." I didn't really. How awkward.
"C'mon!" He pulled me over to them. "Boys, this is my frien-"
"LIAM!" Someone called his name.
"Be right back." He said and gave me an apologetic look. "Play nice." He whispered for my ears only. What did he think I'd do, make a fool of myself? He looked at the four boys before me. "Introduce yourselves." He winked at me and walked off. The curly one cleared his throat.
"I'm Harry." He said.
"I'm Niall." Said the blonde one with a heavy accent.
"Zayn." Said the dark one.
"And I'm Jennifer." Said the brown haired one. I laughed. "Actually Louis. Pleasure meeting you."
"I'm Brandin." I said quietly.
"Brandin?" Louis asked. I sighed inside myself. This always came up.
"Brandi actually. Brandi Grass." I said.
"So, why Brandin?" That boy was full of questions.
"There's a girl on my street I hate named Brandi. My middle name is Noelle, so Brandi plus an 'n' is Brandin." I explained. Louis looked thoughtful.
"Bing!" Exploded from his mouth. The boys snickered and I looked at him funny.
"What?" I asked
"B. N. G. Bing! I'm calling you that." He said. I just laughed.
"Whatever you say, Jen." That got a chorus of laughter.
"What's going on over here?" Liam asked.
"Just introducing ourselves. Have you met Jennifer?" I motioned to Louis.
"Do I even want to know?" Liam asked.
"Probably not." I said. I then looked at the lads. "You make me a promise since I won't see you for hopefully 10 weeks. Loosen up this boy, he's quite serious." I pinched Liam's cheeks. The boys laughed.
"Will do, lovely." Harry said. I felt Liam tense a bit, but maybe it was my imagination. I hugged each of the boys goodbye and walked off with Liam.
I felt my pillow getting wet. I realized I'd been crying. I missed Liam so much.
