18. Date Night

I decided to call Lex and ask her to come over to help me choose an outfit and do my makeup. She walked into my bedroom and shook her head at me.

"You should have called earlier." She scolded me walking over to my closet. I giggled. She took this so seriously.

"Sorry." I said.

"Yeah, you better be." She mumbled grabbing a dress. She examined it, shook her head, and put it away again.

"We have to find something that'll still look good with your cast." She said. I looked down at my leg. I totally forgot about my leg. Great.

"Right." I walked over to my closet and looked at the small selection of dresses in my closet. "What about this one?" I asked grabbing a short, white shiny dress with orange and black flowers all over it.

"Perfect!" Lex squealed grabbing it from me. "Hair time." She held out the chair in front of my mirror. I sat down and leaned my head back to look at Lex upside down.

"Up or down?" She asked running fingers through my hair.

"Down. No, up. No. Yes. Up." I said indecisively.

"Ok, woman, up or down?"

"Up." I said firmly. Lex nodded. After probably an hour and a half, my newly curled hair was in a perfect updo.

"Wow." I said looking at it. "Thanks Lex."

"No problem. Now no touching it until you have to take it out. Got it?" She demanded. I nodded. "Good. Now get dressed, he's gonna be here in 15 minutes."

"15 MINUTES?" I shrieked. "I have to do my makeup yet!"

"Go simple. Natural, he already likes you." Lex said. I nodded and started undressing. Once I had the dress on, I applied mascara, some pencil eyeliner and a little blush. I was putting on some lip gloss when my mom called that "some boy" was here for me. I forgot to tell her I was leaving tonight.

"Great. I didn't tell my mom about Harry." I said groaning.

"No worries, I got this." Lex said patting my back. "Now go have fun with your maaan." I blushed.

"Thank you so much." I said hugging her.

"No worries, babycakes." She said hugging back. I made my way upstairs in front of Lex and rounded the corner. My mom was talking to Harry dressed in a black suit. I smiled when I saw him. He looked perfect.

He turned a little when he heard me walking closer. He bit his lip and smiled.

"You look beautiful." He said after a bit. I blushed a little.

"You don't look so bad yourself." I said quietly. "I see you've met my mom..."

"Yes, dear, I've met him, now have fun." My mom said shooing us out the door.

"We're coming back after dinner!" I shouted at her as the door closed. I laughed.

"Sorry about that." I said. "My mom can be a bit... eccentric."

"She's great." Harry said putting his arm around my shoulders. When we got to his car he opened the door for me and I stepped in. He got in his side and started the car.

"You really do look nice." He said as he pulled out of my driveway. I looked at my feet.

"Thank you." I said. He grinned at me. I mentally facepalmed myself. Why was I being so shy and stupid? Ugh.

"So where are we going?" I asked trying to be confident. I pretty much failed when I looked at his perfect face. Why was he making this so hard for me?

"It's a surprise." He said cheekily. I rolled my eyes.

"I wasn't expecting that to come out of your mouth." I said sarcastically. But I was smiling inside. He just laughed at me and kept driving. We rode in a comfortable silence until he pulled into a parking garage.

"Sorry, we have to walk a bit. The restaurant has no parking." He looked apologetic.

"That's fine." It really was, I needed to start walking more. We got out of his car after he parked. We walked out of the garage and started walking down the street. I grabbed his hand. I didn't like walking together with our hands at our sides. Plus this street was scary. Call me a baby, but it was. Harry smiled at me.

"I'll protect you." He said quietly. I suddenly noticed my tense body. I relaxed a little bit and kept walking. We reached the restaurant 5 minutes later. Harry must have had reservations because we walked past the longest line of people straight to a booth. I sat down next to him not sure of myself. I have definitely never been here before.

The waitress handed us our menus and we ordered our drinks. I looked at the menu trying to decide what sounded good.

"These two are my favorite." Harry said pointing at two dishes. He could probably sense my uncertainty.

"Thanks." I said. I picked one and set my menu down waiting for the waitress to come back.

"So tell me about yourself." Harry said suddenly putting his menu down. "I don't know as much as I should right now."

"Ok, what do you want to know?" I asked.

"Your family." He said. "Tell me about your family." Great. Time to confess about dad.

"Um, well, I have a sister and a mom. My mom's name is Mary, she's really... uh, how do I describe her?" I paused laughing. Harry joined me a little. "She's quite eccentric. But I love her. My sister, Michaela, just came back from college the day of my accident. We don't get along too well, but we're still sisters so we have our girl talk and stuff."

The waitress came back then, and I was so grateful I had avoided talking about dad. That could bring some tears.

When she finished taking our orders Harry spoke again.

"What about your dad?" He asked. Aaaand there it was.

"He, uh, he left us 4 months ago." I muttered looking at the table.

"Brandin, I'm so sorry!" Harry said putting his hand over mine. I could tell he felt really bad.

"Don't worry about it." I said. "He wasn't a good father anyway." I added quietly.

"So tell me about you." I changed the subject.

"Well, my mom's name is Anne. She's great, I love her. She seems to understand a lot of what I say to her."

"Wanna switch families?" I asked giggling. We laughed for a bit.

"Just come join mine." He said winking. I giggled again.

"Sure thing."

We talked about the rest of his family, trees, Liam's fear of spoons, and that Louis' apparent obsession with carrots was indeed fake.

"Yeah, since that video diary from the X-Factor our fans have been thinking he's seriously obsessed with carrots. But he's not. He really doesn't prefer them actually." Harry finished.

"Huh, well, it's a good thing I didn't watch your video diaries or I'd think the same thing." I said elbowing him. By then our food had come so we were eating. Harry put his fork down.

"Sorry to talk about this," he began. "But you really didn't follow what was happening to Liam and us after he left?" I winced a little. This made me think about what Liam did to me at Niall's party.

"Um, I did, but I didn't get into it. I didn't want to get to attached to the show in case he never called again. Which he didn't." I said quietly. "So, no, I didn't really follow you too much." Lie. I shouldn't be lying to him.

"Oh." He said simply.

"But later on, I started following every move you guys made." I blushed a little. This was embarrassing to say. "I just wanted to know where Liam was." Harry didn't say anything. I looked at him.

"You're not still in to Liam, are you?" He asked suddenly. I shook my head vigorously.

"Definitely not." Truth. I was disgusted at him after yesterday. Any feelings I had left are completely gone. "I'm in to someone else." I added grinning.

"Oh really?" Harry asked cheekily.

"Yeah, he's got gorgeous green eyes and curly hair." I said looking into his eyes. We both smiled. He started leaning in and this was it. Not so first kiss on a perfect first date. He pulled away after a few seconds.

"I hate to say this, but we have to go." He said frowning a little.

"How come?" I asked. I didn't want to leave, tonight was so perfect.

"My reservations end in 5 minutes." He said giving me a crooked smile. I laughed a little.

"Ok." We stood up and walked out of the restaurant after paying. I insisted to pay my part, but Harry wouldn't let me. Such a gentleman.

The ride home was quite uneventful but fun. We talked some more about pretty much nothing.

Harry pulled up to my house after 15 minutes. We both got out of the car and walked up to the front door hand in hand.

"Ready to officially meet my mom?" I asked looking up at him.

"Ready Freddy." He said grinning at me. I opened the door.

"We're ho-- What the HECK?!" I yelled.

Ohhh boy what's going onnn????
