True Colours

Silver Birch High School is the perfect place to start over. To forget. All she needed was a good first impression and her best friend Kayla Brent at her side.

At least that's what Laryssa Forest thought when she first entered the gorgeous, stone academy. But will a group of five guys, some unkind words and accidentally falling in love change all of her perfectly laid plans? And more importently, will the scars of the past she's been trying so hard to seal be reopened? See what happens when Laryssa is forced to reveal her True Colours.

This is my first (of hopefully many) fan fiction. I would appreciate any feedback as long as it's stated kindly....after all, nobobys perfect! I'm so excited and hope you'll read, like, comment and maybe even favourite "True Colours". Enjoy! :)x

8. Typical Day

I groaned and rolled out of bed. My alarm clock flashed 8:00am over and over again. Just like Ethan was looking for me. Over and over again; time and time again. I stood up, still sleepy, and pulled on a pair of jeans and a fitted sweater. A gasp escaped my mouth at the purple, blue and black bruises colouring my spine. The events of yesterday night raced through my mind. Jake. Ethan. The bruises were their fault. And then there was Zayn. My friend, Zayn. I turned my head away from the mirror.

After eating and dressing, I waited outside. The morning sun shed light over the lawn,  making the dew-covered grass shimmer and sparkle. The sun hadn't fully wakened yet. I felt the chill of night licking at my ankles, refusing to fully fade away. A soft wind tousled through my hair, which I had left in natural ringlets for the day.

The hum of the MG grew louder as the old car humbly hobbled up my driveway. I looked up expecting to find Kayla at the wheel but was surprised when I saw Liam grinning through the windshield. "C'mon Larry! We haven't got all day!" Louis shouted through the open roof. "Larry? Really?" I asked and climbed in. He laughed and ruffled my hair. "Cause you're curly like Harry and sassy like me. Plus, your names LARYssa." he said, dragging out the "Larry". I couldn't think of anything so I stuck my tongue out at him.

Kayla giggled from Niall's lap at my lack of a good comeback. "Don't worry, we'll get him back later." she promised and I scooched in between Zayn and Louis.

Fifteen minutes later we pulled up outside the mammoth front gates of Silver Birch. We got out of the car and said goodbye before heading our separate ways. The grey stone of the academy reached on farther than the eyes could see. I slung my bag over my shoulder and started walking toward the history room. "Hey!" Harry said from behind me, jogging to my side. I turned around to face him and flashed him a smile.

My eyes caught on to a piece of metal dangling from his neck. "What's that?" I asked. He lifted it out from under his shirt."It's my Saint Christopher's necklace." He said looking back at me. When his eyes met mine the same sparks flew in between us. I smiled shyly, looking away. Why did he have to do this to me? I wasn't normally one to get shy around guys. But just seeing his smile set something off. "I like it." I said, smiling up at him. "It suits you."

The loud rings of the bell echoed through the hall. Floods of students pooled around us and I stumbled forward, tripping over myself. Harry's large hands wrapped around my waist, steadying me. He looked around and took my hand. We moved through the mass of people, trying to dodge the elbows jutting out like sharp machetes. One of them sunk into my side causing me to whimper and hunch over. "Babe? You OK?" Harry's deep voice called to me over the noise. Calling the hallway packed was an understatement.

"Yeah, fine." I winced. Harry's hand slipped into mine, guiding me through the chaos to the quiet corner outside the science room. "Let me see." He stated, unconvinced. He reached out his hand to lift up my shirt but I shook my head. "The bell already rang. We should probably go. I'm fine anyway." I said dismissively.

But Harry wouldn't take it. He gently pressed me against the nearest wall, making sure to block all entrances to the science room with his firm body.

"Harry.." I protested weakly. "We're going to be late for class." I put my hands between us in a lame attempt to shoo him off. He just stayed planted in front of me. Gently, he lowered his hands and lifted the side of my sweater.

I winced in anticipation of what was yet to come. A tiny gasp escaped Harry's mouth. I knew right away it was from the sight of my hideous body and the scars that distorted it. He probably wouldn't want to see me again. I don't deserve him. I never did.

I was about to run when something stopped me. Harry's plush lips crashed into mine, his large hands  forcing me back against the wall. His mouth smashed into mine in a rough and forceful way. I kissed him back in the same way, adoring the way his lips felt on mine; like they were made to be there. I looped my arms around his neck and he lifted me up to straddle his thin hips. He kept kissing me, letting his mouth explore mine.

Zayn's kiss was nice but it was nothing like this. Harry's was gentle yet rough, almost revolutionary. We fit perfectly together. But with Zayn it was different. My heart didn't threaten to burst out of my chest. There were no butterflies tickling my stomach. There was just no spark between us.

I played with his soft curls at the back of his neck, running them through my fingers. Harry let out a soft sigh in pleasure. He pulled away slightly, so his emerald eyes were centimetres from mine.

"You're beautiful. Don't ever forget that." He whispered softly. A tickle of pure nerves snaked down my spine. Only when I nodded did he slowly lower me to the floor.

"We better get to class..." I said reluctantly. Truthfully, I didn't want to go. Being with Harry beat History anyway. "Ms. Caring will hang us if she finds out we were here." I added. "You worried about your reputation?" Harry inquired. He was leaning against the wall beside me, fixing his grey beanie. I shook my head. "I'm worried about us getting thrown in detention."

"Can't be so bad if you're with me." He replied flirtatiously. I just rolled my eyes and started down the hallway. Even though I tried, I couldn't prevent a small giggle from escaping my mouth. "I'll see you at lunch!" I shouted behind me. When I peeked back the curly-haired boy was gone.

"Excuse me! Sorry! Pardon me!"

Kayla aggressively steered us toward the gates. "They need to do something about these hallways." I grumbled, dodging yet another outstretched arm. If Kayla wasn't two feet taller than most seniors, I don't know what we'd do.

When we finally got to the courtyard we were met by five pairs of arms. "Hey guys!" I chimed as Louis, Liam, Niall, Zayn and Harry pulled us into a group hug.

I couldn't help but notice the way Zayn's hand lingered on my back. A tug of guilt plunged into my heart and I let my eyes fall to the floor. I could never give him what he wanted from me. The (guilt) would nibble away at my insides, remind me over and over again how I had  unintentionally toyed with his emotions. It would screech in my ears how I was selfishly taking his life away, stringing him along. Even if I wanted to, I could never take back what we'd shared.

We pulled away from the hug and I awkwardly shifted toward Kayla, who was nuzzling into Niall side. They were actually the cutest thing ever.

"So Laryssa, how's London been treating you?" Liam asked, leaning against the ivy covered stone.

He was the most sensitive and caring of the group with gooey brown eyes and a kind demeanour. "Pretty good...some people at school are annoying but I really like it here." I responded. He flicked his soft hair out of his eyes. "Who would that be?" I sighed. "This girl name Cassie keeps rubbing me the wrong way. I don't think we've said one nice thing to each other the whole time I've been here." Liam grimaced and nodded his head knowingly. "I've heard of her...she does cheer leading right?" I nodded. "I play football every Friday. Her and her friends seem to have a hobby of running around in mini skirts and bras." He said crinkling his nose.

I let out a small laugh. Liam was (tall) and lean with broad shoulders and abs. Like the other boys, he was good looking, but more in a cute way.  I could easily picture him as a football player.

I heard a shout and looked over to see Kayla beckoning to the car with a "my mom's going to kill me" expression.  "I got to go...I'll see you later?" "Yeah, for sure" Liam nodded. He flashed his award -winning smile one last time. "See you tomorrow."
