True Colours

Silver Birch High School is the perfect place to start over. To forget. All she needed was a good first impression and her best friend Kayla Brent at her side.

At least that's what Laryssa Forest thought when she first entered the gorgeous, stone academy. But will a group of five guys, some unkind words and accidentally falling in love change all of her perfectly laid plans? And more importently, will the scars of the past she's been trying so hard to seal be reopened? See what happens when Laryssa is forced to reveal her True Colours.

This is my first (of hopefully many) fan fiction. I would appreciate any feedback as long as it's stated kindly....after all, nobobys perfect! I'm so excited and hope you'll read, like, comment and maybe even favourite "True Colours". Enjoy! :)x

9. Those green eyes

Laryssa's P.O.V

The front door closed behind me with a soft click. "Mum?" I shouted into the seemingly empty house, dropping my school bag onto sleek hardwood of my family room. "Yes Laryssa, I'm over here!" A high pitched voice responded from somewhere. Maybe the kitchen. Mum was always tidying up.

"So how was your day at school?" She asked. "Alright." I answered, nibbling on the homemade shortbread cookie in front of me. She nodded. "That's good."

I was about to return to my cookie when she spoke up again. "So who's that boy you've been with?" I felt my stomach tense slightly. How did she...?

"I've been hanging out with a lot of boys lately. Five actually." I rushed, a little too quickly. She locked eyes with me, raising her eyebrows ever so slightly. "You know who I'm talking about. The one with curly hair and green eyes? I think his names Hayden.." "Harry" I corrected. "Yeah! He called you yesterday and I picked up. He's a very sweet boy."

Now it was my turn to be confused.

"What'd he say?" I asked. A small smile played over my mums lips. "Oh, nothing." She bent down and continued scrubbing the cabinets. "I think it's best for you to go to bed. It's late and tomorrow you're staying late at school for Liam's football game." she pointed out.  I mumbled in agreement, tossing the cookie's remainders into the trash.  It was better not to push it.

"And Laryssa?"

"Pick your bag up off the floor. It looks messy."

I sighed lightly,  making sure to pull my most sarcastic eye roll when I was out of her sight. My feet gracefully moved over the hardwood floor toward the living room. I saw my school bag gaping at me from across the hall. Funny, I didn't remember leaving it there.

I reached out to pick it up but, to my immense surprise, it slipped between my fingers. My chest tightened quickly. What in the world was going on? Wind tugged at my curls but no windows were open.

I reached out again only to find the bag wasn't there. It's place against wall had completely changed. Confused, I stood up. Crumbling pavement trembled beneath my weight as the rest of the scene shifted into focus. I was no longer in the comfort of my home but in a different place. Streetlights illuminated the bare ground beneath me, lengthy shadows lurking around every corner. A cool wind rattled through the night. I seemed to be somewhere in the alleyway.

I cautiously took a few steps forward. The pavement crunched under two thin stubs. Weird. I didn't remember putting on heels.

A chill nibbled at my exposed arms. I gazed upward, tugging my unruly curls behind my ear. What seemed like a billion shimmering stars twinkled down at me.

I looked down feeling a little more relaxed. However, the calmness was short lived.

Suddenly something shook beneath me. I gasped, fumbling backwards to find the pavement vibrating under me. The ground groaned, shaking so vigorously I had to bite me tongue to keep my teeth from banging together. Tentatively, I took a small step forward. My ankles and knee caps rattled wildly. A tiny cry escaped my mouth.

Frantically I looked up. The sight made my eyes bulge.

Suddenly it all came flooding back to me. The alleyway. The shoes. The heavy bass throbbing through the night.

I cast and urgent look down. The light pink dress Kayla had helped me pick was struggling in the wind. It was all here! No... it couldn't be! Not being able to resist any longer, I looked up.

There, grinning I'm front of me, was Ethan Hamel.

My heart stopped in disbelief. The same wicked smirk pulled up his thin lips. "Hey babe..." he cooed, his lowered voice barely above a whisper. A let out a shriek and whipped around. I was cornered in the same alleyway I was less than a year ago.

Ethan began cackling behind me. The ominous noise bounced off the walls, so grating it caused my blood to to turn to ice.

Ethan's howling seized to stop. "Why aren't you looking at me? I want to see your pretty eyes..." Crusty hands slid around my waist, dirt-caked fingernails clawing at my hips. I cried out in utter fear. Desperately, I tried to peel him off of me. The stench of alcohol filled the air as he laughed breathily into my ear.

My stomach lurched as his hands moved lower. He toyed with the hem of my dress as I shook underneath him.

I couldn't let this happen again.

In one trembling breath, I turned on the man behind me. I slammed my heel into his foot causing him to double over in pain. Automatically, I pounded my elbow into his head. He fell to the ground in a heap. I stumbled backwards.

Out of no where my vision began to shake violently. My head spun, moving so fast I thought I was going to be sick. I leaned against the brick wall for support but my hand passed through nothing. I stumbled backward, clenching my still swaying head.

The scene slowed to a whirl and eventually to a slow rock. I could make out bleached gray walls through squinted eyes. A warehouse maybe?

The smell of something rotting made me crinkle my nose. It definitely wasn't the best looking place.

I took in the setting until my eyes fell on a body on the floor. I let out a petrifying screech and jumped aside but calmed when I remembered Ethan.

Hesitantly I took a step forward. My fingers twitched. I wasn't used to hurting people, even if they were as horrid as Ethan.

My breath caught in my throat as the man looked up. His lip was split in two, crimson smeared all over his smooth cheeks. His face contorted in pain at the sight of me. Tears brimmed his eyes. His now dull green eyes.

The sound that arouse in my throat was almost inhumane. I dove forward, wrapping my arms around his thin torso. "Oh my god, Harry!" I cried. I raised my hand to smear the blood from his face but he caught my hand in his. Harry's eyes bore into mine so intensely I thought I would collapse in his hold. "Run."
