Endlessly (A One Direction Love Story)

Anika has always been friends with Liam Payne. She forced him to play with her dolls when they were little, saw him in the front row at each of her dance recitals, forced him into the car for hours while she drove to auditions, and made him critique her every move at the studio. But two years ago, she sat backstage as her best friend sang his heart out for the second time. But this time, instead of coming home after two weeks, he was gone. For good. Liam and Ana still spend every waking hour together, but things are different. Niall and Ana are spending every waking hour together, and Liam's jealous. Will it be the classic story of the best friends who are meant to be, or are Liam and Ana destined to be... just friends?

3. Rise and Shine

ANA

I rolled out of bed to the sound of chirping.

"Shut up already!" I'd already gotten nearly three hundred notifications in the past five minutes, and it was easy to ignore at first, but after the hundredth 'ding' I was ready to kill a bitch.

"What the fuck...?" I scrolled through all of my Twitter updates. 'is this ur grlfrind niall?' 'shes ugly.' looks like a slut her boobs are practically hanging out of her shirt' 'get your tongue out of his mouth skank' 'shes so pretty! im so happy for nialler!' 'who is that'

I scrolled through Tweet after tweet until I gave up and clicked on Liam's feed, as almost all of the tweets were directed at him, Niall, and I. "Look who got stuck under the mistletoe!!!! xx literally" I read. I could feel the anger already begining to boil inside of me as I clicked on the tweet and a picture opened of Niall and I, both scarlett, with our lips pressed together under a sprig of mistletoe. Oh, hell no. I threw my phone onto the bed and leapt to my feet, and then stormed out of the room.

"I'm going to phone that sunofabitch and talk his ear off!" I shouted, but as soon as I made it into the other room I remembered my flat didn't have a land line and I had to do the walk of angry shame back to my mobile.

"LIAM FUCKING PAYNE!" I screamed into the phone as soon as I heard his answering machine. "I AM GOING TO MURDER YOU! This isn't a little bit funny! You think this is funny? This isn't funny, Liam. I am not laughing because this is not funny, my dear man. You are dead, I am going to kill you and then bring you back to life so I can kill you again with yourself. I don't know how I'm going to do it, but it's going to happen. I am not kidding. This is noooottttt funny, Liam." I ranted over and over again, pacing back and forth. I ran out of things to say so I just repeated everything a couple of times until my time ran out and the answering machine shut off. I chucked my phone against the wall. There was a sad little click and it fell to the ground. I rushed over and grabbed it up. "My baby, I'm so sorry you know I didn't mean it!" I cooed, then kissed my phone and set it carefully on my bedside table, giving it a reassuring pat before I stormed off to my closet.

I grabbed together some leggings, a sweater, my bag, and my new UGGs that Liam got me for an early Christmas gift, and then took a quick shower. I pretended I cared long enough to put on some mascara and act like my concealer might cover up my freckles, and then I pulled on my clothes, grabbed my phone and bag, and was out the door. I caught the train to the studio and forced myself through six hours of rehearsal. It was nearly five when I limped off to the train station and caught the tube back to the center of London near Liam's appartment.

When I was nearing the station, I pulled out my phone and jabbed Liam's number into the dial pad. "Liam, I'm coming over." I said when he answered. Before he could say anything I hung up and silenced my phone so I wouldn't have to hear any more stupid alerts for my twitter feed, which was still blowing up.

"I'm home!" I shouted angrily when I finally got past the cranky lift guard and got up to Liam's flat. I dumped my bag on the floor by the door and slunk into the living room, where Liam and Niall were playing Fifa on the tele. Liam smiled up at me and then shouted when Niall got a goal. Niall danced in celebration and held up his hand for a high-five, grinning at me. I smacked his hand away and grabbed the remote, switching the TV off as Liam was about to get a free kick. "No high five for you, pal. And Liam, did you forget you and the Grim Reaper have a scheduled appointment? Aren't you usually punctual?" I snapped. Liam reached for the remote and tried to avoid the subject, but Niall was smart enough to realise what was about to go down and awkwardly excused himself to the kitchen.

"Liam, what the hell?" I whisper shouted as soon as Niall was out the room. Liam looked guilty and like a beaten puppy, and I would usually have given him a hug and forgiven him, but this was serious. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and shrugged.

"It was Harry who did it, but it was a laugh so I left it up. No harm done." Liam said, giving me a weak smile.

"It is not a 'laugh,' Liam." I said, throwing my phone at him. He caught it and scrolled through the tweets. His face fell a little and he handed my phone back before he had to read anymore.

"I'm sorry, Ana. I'll take it down and tell them to leave you alone. There's nothing else I can really do. I feel terrible, honest." He said. I took my eyes away from my phone to see Liam looking like a baby who just watched their mother get shot. I tried to stop myself from caving, but I did and wrapped him in a hug. There was a flash out the window, and I figured a storm must have been rolling in.

"Liam, ugh, I guess it's okay. You don't have to take it down, the harm's already been done. Just tell them to leave me alone. I don't need any more jealous girls calling me a skank." I said, tossing my phone away and flopping back on the couch. Niall came back in with a glass of water and kicked my leg, which was propped on the table.

"That's my seat!" He joked, raising his eyebrows at me. I smiled at him sweetly and cooed, "And now it's not. Toughen up, big boy. Now who's gona get me the third controller?"

I spent the rest of the night kicking Liam's ass at Fifa Cup with Niall, and we chest bumped after we won every match. After we had choreographed a celebration dance, set with face-rubbing lyrics and poor footwork, Liam gave us his karma and put pepper in our tea.

"JESUS LORD HELL BLEEDING MOTHER!" I screamed, spitting the tea back out into the mug not-so-gracefully. Niall hadn't drunk any of his yet and I slapped his hand away from his cup. I wiped my tongue off with a towel and made gross noises while I gargled.

"Payback is sweet!" Liam shouted, dancing around the kitchen and making a face while he drank his pepper-free tea. I threw my spit-covered towel at him and laughed when he spilled his tea down his front trying to dodge it. "Darn it, Ana! Now I have to change." Liam scolded. I made a face at him as he headed off ot find a new shirt.

"Nice work teammate!" Niall said, high fiving me and sitting down at the island. I hopped up on the apposing counter and turned on the kettle to make some new tea for us.

"Ditto! You are ace at striker!" I said. Niall chuckled and brushed some imaginary dirt off his shoulder. I laughed and threw a tea bag at him. It flew past his left ear and Niall yelped as he jumped back. "I can see that baseball is not your forte." I joked. Niall blushed and threw the paper roll at me. I kicked it and it fell lamely on the floor. "Whoops..."

"So how's your dancing going?" Niall asked while I poured out the water. I shrugged.

"Six hours a day of rehearsal and on top of that we're expected to do three hours on our own and I have an extra four hours in the studio on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. So pretty light." I said. Niall laughed and bit his lip, stirring his tea around.

"Sorry I asked! And you're Clara? That's so cool. I bet that's why you have the extra rehearsals, though." He pointed out. I nodded.

"Yeah. The worst part is that I have to be on a strict diet and aside from rehearse I'm meant to do pretty much nothing. If I get hurt I'm done, I'll be replaced in an hour. No mercy." I said, passing the sugar over to Niall.

"I'd die before I went on a diet! What do they let you eat?" Niall asked. He looked pained even talking about cutting back on food. I laughed and took a sip of my tea.

"Uh, I'm on three meals a day of nothing." I said. Niall choked on his tea, but laughed as soon as he realised I was kidding. "Basically water and vegetables and a lot of grapefruit." I said. Niall made a face.

"Can you add sugar?" He asked. He looked like I'd told him that Cher Lloyd was an obese olderly man when I shook my head. "You're joking!"

"No sir." I replied, hopping up onto the stool next to him.

"That's terrible! What do you do when you get invited places? Like on a date or to a friends house?" Niall asked. I shrugged.

"Well, the world will end before I get asked on a date. Most people think I have lepracy. And I don't know, go when I can, ignore when I can't. It's not like I have too many friends in London though. Ballerina's are complete bitches and I hardly know anyone besides Liam and Jade." I said. Niall shouldered me awkwardly.

"That's not true! Freckles are awesome. And you know me now too!" He said. I laughed and poked one of his freckles. Niall's cheeks got a little pinker at my touch.

"And now I know you, too!" I said, mimicking his irish accent. Niall laughed and took both of our empty mugs, setting them in the sink.

"That's right! ANNNDDD my flat is on the next floor up, so if you're ever lonely and Liam's messed up again, you can come for a visit. But if there's laundry hanging to dry out my window, it mean's Mum's around and in that case I wouldn't come by. Any girl is girlfriend material to her." Niall joked. I blushed and shrugged.

"I actually do well with mum's, so we'll see!" I said. Niall made his eyes wide and I laughed as Liam came back into the room. "I'm off! Got to get some sleep. And it's expected to snow tomorrow, which means I need to leave a bit early to get to the trains. The station's going to be filled with pissy old brits." I said. Liam and Niall laughed and I hugged them both before grabbing my things and heading out the door. I was almost to the lift when I heard my name.

"Ana!" I turned and saw Niall walking towards me with my phone in his hand. He was looking at the screen, but smiled up at me as he handed it over. "You left your phone in there. See you around!" He said, grinning before he walked back to Liam's flat. His bum was too cute. I glanced at my screen and saw that my background was now Niall's face with his eyes wide and his teeth bared. I snorted and hit the elevator button. I was too lazy to change it anyway.

By the time I got home I was ready to dissolve, so I sunk back into my bed in all of my clothes and fell asleep instantly.
