Endlessly (A One Direction Love Story)

Anika has always been friends with Liam Payne. She forced him to play with her dolls when they were little, saw him in the front row at each of her dance recitals, forced him into the car for hours while she drove to auditions, and made him critique her every move at the studio. But two years ago, she sat backstage as her best friend sang his heart out for the second time. But this time, instead of coming home after two weeks, he was gone. For good. Liam and Ana still spend every waking hour together, but things are different. Niall and Ana are spending every waking hour together, and Liam's jealous. Will it be the classic story of the best friends who are meant to be, or are Liam and Ana destined to be... just friends?

8. Fairy Tale Ending

By the time an hour had passed, I'd been sitting on the couch for nearly forty minutes in a suit with a bouquet of flowers and box of chocolates. I was so excited to take Ana on a date, a real and honest date. She was mine for the night and I was going to make it the best night of her life.

There was a knock on the door as I was turning to knob to go. I opened the door and saw Liam standing there in trackies and beat up Converse.

"Oh, where are you going?" Liam asked. I closed the door and turned the lock.

"I've got a date." I said, heading to the elevator.

"With Ana?" He asked, following me. I hit the lift button and waited while the light dinged.

"Yeah, with Ana." I said. Liam stared at me.

"Why would you do that when you know how I feel about her?" He said sadly. I snorted.

"Liam, you really messed her up when you said all those things to her. She didn't deserve any of it, and you made her feel like shit. You can't try and make me feel bad, honestly. That's low, Liam." I said. The lift doors opened and I got inside. I hit the door-close button and felt a tinge of regret at the look on  Liam's face as the doors shut.

I pulled up in front of Anika's building three minutes early, and I took the stairs to burn off some energy. I knocked on the door right as my watch clicked to six. "Coming!" Ana called from the other side of the door. There was the click-thump-click of her crutches on the wood and then the door swung open. I'm not exaggerating when I say my jaw hit the floor. Ana was wearing a royal blue dress that hugged her body, and a black sparkly blazer and matching shoes (or shoe, since her other foot had a neon pink cast) and she had a black clutch tucked under her arm. Ana's hair was curled and brushed over her shoulders and she was wearing smokey black eye makeup that made her brown eyes pop.

"You're catching flies there, Niall." She said, shutting the door behind her once she'd set the flowers and chocolates down. I blushed and shut my mouth, and helped her to the lift. We talked about her plans for the weekend (nothing) and the weather (fucking cold) and where we were going for dinner (as if I would tell her, surprises? Fuck yeah.)

"Here we are!" I said, pulling up in front of the Ivy. This time Ana's jaw dropped open. "You're catching flies there, Ana." I said, helping her out of the car. She closed her mouth and grinned at me as I helped her through the door. "Reservation for two under Horan." I said. The hostess seated us at a table in the center of the restaurant. So much for the private atmosphere I requested.

"Can we have two waters and two glasses of Pino Noir?" I asked the waitor. He returned a minute later with the drinks. Ana took a sip of her wine and made a face as she swallowed.

"Um... yum." She said. I laughed and leaned over towards her.

"I don't like it either but it makes us look classy. Shhhh." I said. Ana laughed and sat back, unfolding her towel in her lap. The waitor came around and took our orders, and we both got steak.

"So what are we doing after this?" Ana asked. I shrugged, giving her a knowing smile. Ana stomped her good foot on the ground. "Come onnnn Niall, why does everything have to be a surprise?" She whined. I laughed and started to cut my steak.

"Because, it's more fun that way!" I replied. Ana refused to talk to me for the rest of dinner, but she made faces at me across the table the whole time, trying to make me laugh. I finished Ana's steak for her when she was full. "You're pathetic, I can't believe you only ate half, Ana!" I said. She laughed and shruggged.

"I'm used to like three carrot sticks and a grapefruit everyday, not a whole steak for one meal!" She said. I laughed and paid the waitor before we left.

"Before we go to our secret location, let's get some gelato!" I said, helping her down the street to a nice italian desert restaurant. Ana groaned, but managed to eat half of the gelato I got for us to share.

"I might not fit into this dress after all of this." She moaned as I drove her to the theatre in the center of London. I helped her out of the car and she gasped when she realised where we were. "Niall, you got tickets to the ballet? I thought it was sold out!" She gasped. I shrugged.

"One of the few perks of being Niall Horan of One Direction." I said, escorting her through the entrance and handing over our tickets. We had balcony seats, and Ana was shaking with excitement. When she saw where we were sitting, she squealed and jumped on me, giving me a bone-crushing hug.

"Breathing is kind of important to me." I choked out, and Ana let me go. I helped her into her seat as the lights went out. She wrapped her arm around mine and entwined our fingers. Every time the replacement Clara danced, Ana would correct something she was doing. I laughed basically the entire time. When intermition came 'round, Ana stood up and stretched.

"I could've done it way better if I hadn't broken my stupid ankle." She said. I laughed and stetched as well. Ana's ribs stuck out when she lifted her arms over her head, she had such a gorgeous dancer's body.

"Thank you so much for doing all of this, Niall." Ana said, smiling at me and taking both of my hands in hers. I smiled sheepishly, lacing our fingers together and pulling her closer to me. I wrapped her in a hug and spun her around.

"Anything." I said. Ana giggled and kissed me on the cheek, but it was the kind of kiss that meant there was going to be more, right next to my lips. The kind of thing that might seem like she'd missed if we were thirteen and it was her first kiss, but because I knew she'd kissed boys before it was like a gateway kiss. She pulled away from our hug and smiled at me with her eyes a little distant, like she was thinking about something. I pushed a strand of her hair out of her face and leaned forward, pretending like I was going to kiss her, and then I squeezed her sides. Ana jumped about a mile and squeaked in shock. She stared at me for a second and then burst out laughing. I laughed with her until the lights flickered and we sat back down.

This time I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and she leaned her head in the crook of my neck. I tried my hardest to pay attention, but it was hard when Ana kept critiquing the whole thing. It was actually pretty funny and cute. By the time the show was over, I was all laughed out. I helped Ana down the stairs and out of the theatre. It was cold outside and I slid my jacket around her shoulders.

"Christmas time is in the air." Ana sang off key and totally flat, but it was still adorable. I laughed and held her hand, spinning her around. I took her crutches out from under her arms and layed them on the ground.

"Let's dance!" I said. Ana kicked off her shoe and stood on top of my feet. I hummed a random tune and danced around, stopping to dip her or spin her around every once in a while. Ana giggled every time and would always say something in a propper American Accent after I lifted her back up again.

"This was such an amazing night," She said after she put her shoe back on and we sat down on a bench in the courtyard. I shrugged. It really had been, but I still loved to know I had made her happy. "I've never actually been on a propper date." She admitted. I turned and stared at Ana.

"Surely there have been loads of guys tripping over themselves to take you out!" I said. Ana shook her head.

"You probably look at me and think, 'man, she must have cruised through high school!' Not the case, Niall, not the case." Ana said, quoting Bridesmaids. I laughed and helped her to her feet. We walked (or crutched) slowly back to the car, talking about how much better Ana would have been as Clara and how unfortunate it was that she had broken her ankle.

I opened the door for her and we drove back to my place, blasting the radio and singing ridiculously loud. I carried her on my back to the lift and up to my flat. We were drunk of laughter, giggling and sorting and laughing at nothing. Nothing was funny, but Ana's laugh was contagous and she said my laugh was contagous so neither of us really stopped laughing.

"Welcome to my humble abode!" I said, dropping Ana on the couch. She laughed and looked around, grinning when she spotted her drawing framed on my wall. I sat down next to her pulled her shoe and jumper off. I kicked off my shoes and got us both some of my trackies and tee shirts. Ana hopped off to the bathroom and changed while I just changed in the living room. I heard the click of her crutches on the floor before I had my shirt on. Ana was standing, staring at me from the doorway.

"You've been working out." She teased while I pulled my shirt over my head. I laughed and sat  back, holding out my arm so she could fit with me. Ana dropped her crutches agains the wall and curled up in a ball under my arm, her head buried in my chest.

"You wear my clothes better than I do." I said. Ana giggled and shrugged.

"What can I say?" She asked. I laughed and decided to make my move. I grabbed Ana's hands in mine and leaned over her so she was lying on my couch, our fingers tangled together at her waist. Ana was staring into my eyes, her own chocolate ones twinkling. "I think maybe you should kiss me." She whispered, her eyes searching my face. I grinned and leaned down. Ana's eyes fluttered closed and I was about to kiss her when the door to my flat swung open. I lept away from Ana and she jumped to the opposite end of the couch, clutching her heart.

"Niall?" Harry called, walking into the room. He nodded at Ana when he saw her sitting on the couch, and then walked past and grabbed a remote controller off of the TV stand. "The rest of the lads are at my flat and we're playing some Fifa, if you two want to join." Harry offered. I shook my head.

"Nah, we're good, man." I said. Harry nodded and headed  for the door.

"Use protection!" He called over his shoulder before slamming the door. I smacked my hand on my face and stared at Ana between my fingers. She laughed and grabbed my hands again, pulling me back so that my face was hovering over hers again. Her breath was hot on my face and I just wanted to grab her face and kiss her a billion times over, but I knew I had to be careful so I wouldn't mess anything up.

"Where exactly were we?" Ana asked. I laughed and leaned all of my weight on my hands on either side of her head. I leaned down a little faster than before, and my bottom lip was touching hers when the door banged open again.

"JESUS!" Ana screamed, jumping away. My hand slipped off the edge of the couch and I tumbled to the ground, smashing my face on the floor.

"OWWW!" I shouted, but my ears were filled with laughter. I pushed myself up off the ground and saw Zayn standing in the doorway, clutching his stomach and shaking with laughter.

"Sorry, mate! We just wanted some snacks, and you tend to have a lot of food." Zayn said. I glared at him and pointed at the kitchen.

"Grab what you need and LEAVE." I said, rubbing my face. Ana was trying not to laugh from her seat on the couch.

"Ooops." She said sweetly. I made a fake angry face at her, but As soon a Zayn left she grabbed my hand and pulled me on the couch with her. She touched my nose tentatively. I winced a little, but it didn't hurt that bad. "It doesn't look broken." Ana said.

"Good." I said, wrapping my hands around her waist and pulling her towards me. Ana tangled her fingers in my hair, glancing back and forth from my eyes to my lips and back. I pulled her to me so that our bodies were pressed together. Ana closed her eyes and leaned towards me, and I leaned down to meet her lips. Our lips were just barely touching when the door swung wide open to Louis parading in singing some stupid show tune.

"JESUS FUCKING CHRIST LOUIS!" I shouted, dropping Ana on the couch and storming after him. I grabbed his arm and shoved him out of my flat, though he was protesting and shouting something about socks, and slammed the door in his face. I turned the lock and grabbed a chair from the table and shoved it against the door. Then I stormed back into the other room, climbed on top of Ana, and slammed my lips into hers. She wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me back, and I slid my hands around her waist. We kissed and kissed and kissed.

Our lips were practically glued together, and even though the guys kept coming around and banging on the door, I didn't even bother pulling away or looking up when I grabbed random items off the table and threw them at the door.

Ana wrapped her legs around my waist and I lifted her up, slamming her back against he wall and putting my arms on either side of her head as we kissed intensly. I had tingles running up and down my whole body, I wanted to stay like this forever.

Niall's hands were fluttering over my stomach and back while I was pressed up against the wall, our lips stuck together. I hardly bothered to breathe, and every time one of us tried to pull away, the other would just grab their face and pull them back. Niall's hands had lifted my shirt up a bit and his chest was pressed against mine, his hands holding tightly to my bare waist. I grabbed the collar of his shirt  and pulled it off so his abs and chest were bare. I grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him to me so his lips were hard against mine. I jumped and wrapped my legs around his waist, and he started backing away from the wall. There was pounding on the door and Niall back up so his back slammed into the door. I giggled but refused ot pull away. His lips fit into mine like two perfect puzzle pieces, and I didn't want to breath if it meant not kissing him.

"Naughty, very very naughty!" Louis shouted from the other side of the door. I began kissing Niall's neck and he slammed his head back against the door, holding in a moan. He pushed my hair away from my face and kissed my ear all the way down to my exposed shoulder blade. Niall spun me around so my back was against the wall and his hands were on the wall on either side of head. He pulled away and stared into my eyes, his light blue ones dark with emotion. I grabbed his hand and lead him to his bed room, where I fell back onto the bed. We kissed over and over and over, my body weak but my heart strong enough to keep me attached to his lips. Niall held my arms over my head and pressed his lips to my neck, kissing my collar bones and my throat and my ear and my lips over and over again. This is what heaven must feel like.

We kissed until the clock switched to one in the morning, and Niall finally rolled away from me, then pulled me to his bare chest. He wrapped the blankets around us and tangled his legs with mine. Niall rested his chin on the top of my head and kiss my hair.

"What does love feel like?" I asked him after a few minutes of silence. Niall let out a breath.

"Your heart wants to explode and it's going a mile a minute, but at the same time it's like everything is in slow motion. Everything makes your heart flutter and every time you touch you get butterflies, and no matter how hard you try you can't seem to find anything wrong with them." Niall said. I rested my head on his chest and dragged my fingers up and down on his back. I could feel his skin tense up under my touch,

"Does it almost make you feel sick?" I asked. Niall nodded.

"It hurts really badly." He said quietly.

"Is what I feel love?" I asked. Niall scooted back a little, looking deep into my eyes.

"How easy would it be for you to say you love me right now?" He asked. I stared at his blue eyes, his freckled nose, his lips puffy from kissing.

"Really easy." I said. Niall's lip twitched.

"Do it." He said, almost like a question.

"I love you." I said. My breath hitched in my throat after I said it, because I'd never said it before. But I realised, it was the right thing to say.

"I love you, too." Niall breathed, then wrapped me in his arms and proceeded to fall asleep.
