19. Reception (Final Chapter!)

A/N: So this image is of the gift that Leah's mom gives her. Isn't it gorgeous? Oh I just love it! Anywho... :D

After I took off my long skirt and the train and made it into a shorter dress, Nick and I walked into the big room full of people. The band was all set up and playing beautiful music. People were already seated, ordering food, dancing, talking, and just having fun. I loved it. Since we don’t drink alcohol, we only had wine for those that did, and sparkling grape juice, white and red, for us. After a while of chatting and receiving many congrats and gifts, like the beautiful painting of a ballerina that my mom gave me, my moms start to get up on the small stage, tapping the mic.

“Excuse me. Hey everyone. Let’s give it up for the newly wed,” my real mom says, clapping along with everyone else.

“I love you so much beauty, and I’m so happy for you and Nick,” she cheers her glass.

“I love you too, honey. I’m so proud that you found love. Nick, you are perfect for her. I love you as well, and welcome to the family,” my stepmom says, smiling at Nick.

I awed and kissed Nick’s cheek.

Mama J walked up to the mic, “Nick, sweetie, I love you so much and I love the girl you finally brought home to us (we all laugh). You are always welcome into our home, Leah. You AND your family. I wish you all the best.”

We clapped and I blew her a kiss.

“So now is the father-daughter dance. Leah? Join your daddy out on the floor,” my stepmom says pointing to my dad, ready to escort me to center of the floor.

He takes my right hand and I rest my left on his shoulder. We start swaying as “Butterfly Kisses” by Bob Carlisle was playing. We both started tearing up immediately. This was our song. (A/N: This is actually mine and my dad’s song so it makes it so much more meaningful :-)

“Hi daddy,” I smiled, resting my head in his chest.

“Hi, baby girl. You need to stop growing up, it makes your mom and I feel old,” he chuckled.

“Well I definitely can’t help it now,” I joked. “And you guys aren’t THAT old.”

“That’s true,” he said.

We finished the song and my dad passed me to Nick.

“Hey there, Mrs. Jonas,” he winked kissing my forehead.

“Why hello,” I giggled wrapping my arms around his neck.

“I think I need to give you my wedding gift now,” Nick said.

I looked at him confused, “Wha- .”

“Nick? Is there something you need to do?” Papa J said over the mic.

I was still confused. Nick walked to the white piano next to the stage and sat down.

“Sweetie, this song is for you. You mean so much to me, and I wrote it just for you,” Nick adjusted the piano and talked into the mic, looking my in the eyes. He patted the spot next to him on the bench.

Addie walked over to me and took my hands, squealing.

“What is he doing?” I asked her.

“Just go!” she said, pushing me over to him.

When I sat down, Nick started playing this beautiful melody. I swooned at the sound.

My heart melted as soon as he started singing.

“Angel with a broken wing,

When you showed up at my door,

Now I'm falling more in love,

Than I ever was before.

And if you must,

Know the truth;

I knew that it was you.

So when you will, when you won’t,

I do.

I know that an endless love,

Isn’t something you can teach.

With you, there is not a star,

In the sky that I can’t reach.

So if you must,

Know the truth;

I knew that it was you.

So when you will, when you won’t,

I do.

So when you will,

When you won’t,

You can just say “I will.”

When we’re young,

When we’re old,

I do.”

I was in tears, and so was he.

“Nick?” I engulfed him in a hug. “That was beautiful.”

“It’s just for you,” Nick smiled and kissed me softly.

I loved these kisses because they were so small, but they were so perfect in its own secret way. So much passion, in just a small touch of the lips. The Administration continued playing after Nick got a standing ovation. It was honestly the sweetest thing I’ve ever been given. Especially from him. Nick and I started dancing in the center to “Kiss Me.”

Afterwards, I saw Addie and Joe walk on stage. Uh oh. More waterworks.

Joe tapped the mic, “Testing, testing, 1 2 3.”

Addie slapped his shoulder, “It works, Joseph.”

We all started laughing.

“Hi everyone. I’m Joe, Nick’s older brother. Not oldest, but older. Than him. Obviously,” Joe laughs.

“I think they get it,” Addie rolls her eyes, chuckling.

“Anyways! I just wanted to congratulate you guys. Leah, you’re like the little sister I never had and I love you to death. Nick is a great guy and would never hurt you. Nick? Bubby, I watched you grow up, but I think we all know that you probably grew up faster than any of us. I love you tons, Nick. Congrats you two!” Joe winked at us as everyone clapped.

Addie stepped up to the mic and that’s when I thought we would both lose it. “Well hello everyone! I am Addison, Leah’s best friend and sister for like ever,” everyone laughed. Then she looked at me. Oh no. “Leah?” she started, tears forming in her eyes. “I’ve known you pretty much all my life. I am so thankful for that day that you stood up for me in school. That honestly was the beginning of a great friendship and a wonderful sisterhood. I absolutely love you to death. Then that night at the concert, all our lives changed. We met the men that we were destined to be with for the rest of our lives. Nick, I’ve known you for a few years now. You have shown me that no matter what happens, you will always be there for me, just the way that an older brother would. And I’ve always seen you as a brother. I pray that you take care of Leah. I can tell that you really do make her happy. Joe tells me all the time that this is the happiest he has ever seen you. This may give a new meaning to actually being sisters for Leah and I. (crowd chuckles) You guys have been there for us when we needed someone the most. And you can count on us to do the same. I know this is something I tell Joe all the time, but I wish you forever and always with each other and never ending happiness.”

I was in tears, of course. I’m SO glad I decided that water-proof make-up was the best choice. I clapped and mouthed “I love you guys” to Joe and Addie.

Mrs. Jonas stood back up to the mic, “Aww that was sweet, you two. We wish you both a life full of blessings and happiness. Let’s make a toast to the lovely couple. To Nick and Leah.”

“Nick and Leah,” everyone raised their glasses of sparkling grape juice. Nick and I raised our own glasses to each other, smiling, and kissed for a brief second.

“I’m so glad I have you,” he whispered with our foreheads touching. I closed my eyes and breathed him in.

“I love you,” I whispered back.

“I love you too, hon,” he kissed me tenderly.

“Okay, okay, hands off you two,” Joe comes in, ruining the moment.

“Now I’m allowed to,” Nick raises his eyebrows and winks.

I gasp and slap his arm at his sly remark. I’m sure our relationship is going to be like this for a while.

After the dance party portion of the reception, the night started to slow down and guests started to leave and congratulate us. To end it on a good note, Nick and I got on the stage to thank everyone for coming.

“Hi everyone. Nick and I just wanted to thank you for all of your love and support and gifts. Y’all are truly amazing,” I started, smiling at the crowd.

Nick rubbed the small of my back, “We couldn’t thank you enough for making this night so special. We want to thank the band, The Administration, for helping out with the live music, and the chefs in the back that dedicated several days of preparation for the amazing food, and to the family and friends that has been supporting our marriage since day one. Thank you and have a safe night.”

A roar of applause followed, as we waved to all of them and hugged the band and chefs. As soon as I was about to pick up a dish, Nick came rushing over to sweep me up, bridal style.

“Uh uh uh! You two need to get out of here,” Nick’s mom came over shooing us away.

“Thanks mom,” Nick smiled sheepishly, kissing Mama Jonas’s cheek swiftly.

“You’re welcome, sweetie, now go on!” she smiled at us.

Nick and I giggled as he set me down and we ran out of the venue, holding hands. Rice started flying left and right at us as the crowd of people on both sides of the walkway were laughing and cheering. Nick led me to the car and opened the front door for me, trying to avoid the rice being pelted at his back, although he was laughing. After I got in completely, he closed the door and ran to the other side. I rolled down the window and waved to everyone, shouting my “love you”s to them. Nick drove us off in his red mustang, as cans were tied to the back bumper.

“That was so much fun. Everyone that came was so sweet,” I smiled, holding the hand he wasn’t using to steer.

“As long as I was with you, it could have been in a dumpster and I would still be happy,” he smiled.

“Buuut all that hard work and planning and people helping made it just a bit more special, right?” I giggled, kissing his hand.

“Right,” he winked.

I smiled wide and kissed his cheek swiftly. "I love you."

He stopped at a red light and turned to me, smiling like an idiot. "And I love you, honey."

He kissed me softly, before turning his head to look at the road, never letting go of my hand. I giggled and blushed as I thought about how the rest of the night will go. I could see him smirking as well. We both knew what was coming next. And I couldn’t be more nervous and excited. Believe it or not, I was willing to start a family tonight. And that is just what we did. :)
