Going through Here and There

Victoria lived most of her life living a lie. Then she meets up with an old friend in an exhibition and they contact each other again. But is everything real, or is it a lie? Or is everything just a dream and a vision?

5. Watching The Stars

Zayn's P.O.V.

I went back to my house after bringing Camille home. To be honest, I was so happy to see her again. I don't know why but I felt so stupid telling her that she didn't change a single bit. Infact, she has changed a lot. Her hair was darker than before, she no longer wore braces and glasses. She was prettier than before, and to add it all up she has changed.
It was morning already, and I took a shower. It was in the shower that I decided to call her for a visit. After changing, I got my phone out, and dialled her number. After several rings, she finally answered. "Hello?" Camille's voice was husky when she answered.
"Hey, it's me Zayn," I said hoping that my timing was right.
"Oh, hi!" Camille said. "Why did you call?"
"Are you busy?" I asked crossing my fingers.
"Actually I just came from the shower," she said. "And I haven't made plans yet, so no I'm not." The shower? Oh so she was in the shower, taking a bath without her clothes on. She was naked. Oh, the thought of her naked made me feel bad minded. I stopped myself right away before worse thoughts entered my head.
"Can I come visit you?" I asked her.
"Yeah, sure. What time?" Camille asked me.
"How about now?" I asked her.
"Okay, perfect." She said right through the phone. Somehow I wanted to know if she was happy or she was just faking it. "See you!" She said and hung up.
I got my car key out and left the house. I drove to her house, and to my surprise there was another car parked outside. I wondered who owned it. I got out of my car and knocked her door. She opened the door after awhile. She was wearing a white tank top and jeans.
"Oh you're here!" Camille said and her voice seemed surprised like I didn't inform her I was visiting. She made way for me and I entered her house. It was pretty big and it was really clean. I looked around and saw that her couch was messy. I wonder if someone slept there. That thought made me wonder if she had a boyfriend.
"Sorry," she said. "My dog sleeps in that couch." Shit! She must have realized I was looking at it. I sure hope she didn't realize that I was thinking if she had a boyfriend or not.
"So how are you now?" I asked realizing that that was the question I forgot to ask her yesterday. "You know, how's life and all."
"Everything's quite the same, you know." She answered and I knew she wanted me to realize that what I had said about her not changing at all. "I'm young, weird and I'm still free and single."
The words single and free hit me hard. That must have meant she wasn't dating! She didn't have a boyfriend. I don't know why but somehow, I felt happy to know that she was single.
"So did you ever have one?" The words fell out of my mouth like it just slipped out. I didn't mean to ask that but it just came out. Camille didn't respond and I realized that she was humming to herself. Wow, that was close! She did not hear me.
"What did you say?" Camille said turning to look at me. All of a sudden all the rainbows fell down.
"No-nothing," I said. "It wasn't important."
"Okay," she said. "Whatever."
Those words made me shocked. Camille used to always care for everyone, she wouldn't just say whatever right away. I looked at her as she was fixing the couch. She looked back at me and our eyes met.
"Are you staying here for the night?" She asked with a smile on her face. I looked at her not wanting to look at anything else. She was beautiful, but I knew I couldn't tell her that.
"Would it be fine?" I decided to say. She looked at her phone and then at me.
"Yeah, you may stay as long as you like." Camille said. "To be honest, it's actually boring to be living here all alone."
"Did anyone live here with you, like before?" I asked.
"Nope," she said. "My parents gave me this house as a birthday gift when I was 16, they said I was responsible enough to live on my own."
"Oh okay, then I'd like to stay for the night." I said. I caught a glimpse of her face and she was smiling. I couldn't take my eyes off her, which was weird.
She left the room after awhile and went to fix my room. She came back after a short time. She smiled at me and I realized this was really all about smiling. I couldn't bear smiling conversations.
"Hey, do you wanna help me in the kitchen?" She asked and I realized this was my one time slot to get to talk to her. I nodded my head and she headed to the kitchen.
When we were in the kitchen, she got stuffs out of some drawers and placed it on the table. I watched her do all of this things, and I realized that she was super fast in moving. Everything she did was so swift. She tried to reach for one of the things on the locker, but it was too high.
"Need help?" I asked her. I looked inside the cabinet and saw that she was trying to reach the baking powder.
"Yeah," she said. I moved behind her and reached the powder. Our bodies were pressed for some time until she grabbed the powder from me and moved out.
"Thanks," she said and got the bowl and placed all of the powder in it. She cracked some eggs and placed it in the bowl together with the powder,
"What are you baking?" I asked her.
"Cookies or cake?" Camille asked me.
"Well, I don't think people bake cookies with eggs," I said and she smiled. I went beside her but she moved away to go to the oven.
Great! Everytime I try to go near her she moves away! This was making me really mad. I tried several times but everytime we were so close, she moved away. Was she evading me?
After baking, she got the cookies and cake out of the oven. She went out of the kitchen and came back after awhile.
"Come on," she said. She led me to her garden where everything was prepared. There was fire burning, and there was a picnic ready for both of us. I looked at her but she just smiled back. I sat on the picnic cloth and she did the same, but she wasn't that close to me.
We ate throughout the night and we joked about each other's past. We talked and laughed but all I wanted was to be near her, which was so impossible. To be honest, Camille was just my friend, nothing more nothing less. I didn't even really like hanging out with her, cause of her nerd look. But that was before, and now she's changed. She's different.
"Malik! Earth to Malik!" Camille snapped infront of my face. She pulled me back into reality, and I realized we were inches apart only.
"Sorry, I was thinking about stuffs," I said.
"What were you thinking about?" She said, and to my surprise she leaned her head on my shoulder. I felt the sudden urge to grab her in my arms, but I controlled myself.
"Things back in Xfactor," I said looking down at her.
"I thought you weren't allowed to think about that anymore," she said and fixed her head in my shoulder.
"Yeah, just like the same way I'm not supposed to be seen hanging around with unpopular people," I said. The words tumbled out of my mouth all of a sudden and I wished I could take it all back. Camille moved her head out of my shoulder and I knew she was affected by the words that I said. I tried to say something but my mouth wouldn't budge.
"Anyways, do you still remember when we were young, we used to look up at the skies and count the stars," she said looking up at the stars.
Great job! Now I lost my one chance of being close to her. She probably would never go near me again. I felt my body loose all of its energy, when all of a sudden she touched my hand. I looked up at her, and she was smiling.
"You didn't answer!" Camille said, and her tone was a bit mad.
"Sorry!" I said feeling a bit annoyed. I looked down at my hand and she noticed I was looking at it and she quickly removed it.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to," she said and she kept her hands by her side. She looked away, and then she looked at the ground. Her eyes were shinning under the stars, and I couldn't help but realize that she has changed a lot.
"You know, sometimes I still see the girl with braces, glasses and pigtails." I said and I saw her smile. "But I know, that she's changed and that she has her own life now."
"I thought you said I never changed and I was still the same girl," she said and I can tell that she appreciated the complement.
"Yeah, well to me you'll always be that girl," I said and looked at her. Camille was smiling at me and then she looked at her feet.
"You know, the last time I saw you like for real was when I was 16," she said. "And then I saw you on your birthday when you turned 17 but you didn't even talk to me, I tried to talk to you but you were so busy talking to your girlfriend and her friends. Then I heard you guys broke up, and you were upset but then you left for Xfactor."
I smiled at her but what she said hurt me a bit. We fixed the things and then went to bed. The room she fixed for me was nice. It was clean and it was just right. I went to sleep and can't help but feel happy that when I wake up tomorrow I would be seeing Camille's face.
