My Temperature Rising

Ryan was a typical 16 year-old girl that moved from the States to London because her mom got a upgrade in her job from AT&T. Being raised in Texas was a noticeable difference at her new English high school. She started meeting this boy that lived in the same apartment building as she was. With his beautiful soothing Irish accent voice Niall Horan, Ryan made a new friend. But she was also used to either hanging out with Niall or mostly spending her time alone until her chemistry teacher paired her up with Harry Styles. Having major differences, unless you count them both having curly brown hair, this would be a challenge. Especially since Ryan might have a crush for this boy. . . but she might already have feelings for her new friend Niall. Who would she pick over?

2. The New Beginning

Ryan's POV

"Ryan. Ryan! Wake up! We're here!" whispered my mom.

I peered out the window to find that the sun it out, we're 'bout to land on the runway, and there are a lot of buildings. However when we reached the runway, with the classic bumpy drive, I got a closer look at this new culture. And also my IPhone 4S that read it was 4 a.m. back at home. We gathered our luggage   and tried to flag down a taxi. As we did so I gazed out the window and was in awe the whole drive to our new apartment. Or should I say flat. Our flat  was on the 3rd floor, the highest floor, and it was a 2 bedroom, 2 bath flat I had the best room, in my opinion, 'cause I had the best view on the city. The kitchen was beautiful too. It had a nice stainless steal fridge, microwave, stove and sink. The stove is a gas burner, my favorite, and the counter tops are granite. The flooring is wood and we had a lil roof top place to hang out in this flat. Like a secret hiding spot. I helped Ma unload all the boxes by unloading the kitchen stuff 1st, the living room 2nd, the dining room 3rd, and my room last but certainly not least. I actually like unload my stuff outta boxes in my room. It's like unloading presents but it's no surprise.

After unloading our junk for ages, I changed into comfortable clothes but also appropriate for people to see. I put on a T-shirt that was blue-green and had UNCW navy blue lettering on it. Don't ask. I don't know what it means. Maybe a university in the States? I don't know but then I put on starchy navy blue jeans I got for Christmas. To top it off I grabbed my colorful TOMS, let my curly, brown hair down, added a red bow, and put on my necklaces and bracelets on. I asked mom if I could explore this mysterious place like to find where on Earth is the location to my school. She just nodded and pointed at the door while unloading her boxes in her room and talking to, I'm guessing, a client. As I headed out I found a boy heading towards his flat unit. He has blond hair, rather tall, and blue eyes? I didn't wanna make eye contact with him so I just kept on walkin'.

"Ya might wanna get an umbrella. It's gonna pour out here in a lil bit, " he said with a accent I couldn't immediately recognize.

"Um. . . sure. Thanks, " was all that slipped out of my mouth.

He chuckled a bit then went in his unit. 103. Hmm 1st floor. I ran back up to my unit and grabbed an umbrella an ran back out. He was right. It start to drizzle at first but as I walked down the block it started to get harder. Never the less I still was so curious to find my new school. However soon I got lost. Surrounded by strangers, buildings, cars, a near park, and rain, I had no idea where I was and to make matters worse I had no idea where my new flat is either. Great. As I walked to the park and sat on the bench, soon to realize that it was wet, I decided to call my mom and make it a day. Before I knew it my school was just 'round the corner. Who knew. So I called back my mom to call it off and walked towards my new school. It looked exactly like a university. Scary. I walked in and found out that it's school time. Good goin' Ryan. As I walked down the hallways, tryin' to avoid the other students and to be as invisible as possible, I found my principle. Her name is Mrs. Howell and she is awfully nice. She gave me my schedule for tomorrow in my classes that I'm takin' and my locker combo. She also gave me a map to the school, my uniform clothes, and also a map form the school to my flat. Weird how she knows where I live but I guess I can't complain sayin' as I don't even know where I live. I said my thanks and left. I tried to find my new locker and it was near one of my classes. Chemistry. I turned the knob 25-17-10. It unlocked and I was actually kinda amazed that my locker is a lot bigger than my locker back home. So, so far it's progress to the positive side of movin' here. The school hours are the same as home,

Now it's noon and my body thinks it's 6 a.m. I feel like I'm gonna pass out any second. As I left the campus to cross the street and needless to say I almost got run-overed. I survived the couple of blocks following my map and went inside my buildings. I put my umbrella where the other umbrellas were in a hanger. As I did so I saw that same guy I saw earlier this mornin'.

"Was it rainin'?" he asked.

"Yes. you were right. It actually still is, " I responded.

"Where'd ya go?"

"To find my new high school. What's your name?"

"Oh sorry! It's Niall. Niall Horan." he said in a James Bond voice.

"Haha it's unique. I'm Ryan. Ryan Gómez."

"Nice to meet cha. So what high school are ya goin' to?"

"Um. . . Charter School? Everyone has to wear uniforms. Yuck."

"I know haha tell me 'bout it." he said as he was outside in the hallway with me eatin' an apple and leanin' against the wall.

"What school do you go to?"

At this moment he paused on eatin' yet another bite of his apple and stared into space. I felt like I made things awkward so I started to walk up stairs and said 'Good-Bye'.

"Charter School." he answered back at me.

I turned 'round to see that he had his head hung low and walked back into his unit with his finished apple. Gosh he ate that quickly. It looked like he said those words as if it tasted like vinegar. Wait. Today was a school day. Why wasn't he at school today? And why didn't he have on the uniform?  I moved on on that note and entered into my flat that blew me away completely. Everything was unpacked and we even got our internet on and our T.v. I was impressed but I also forgot that Ma also liked unpackin' stuff. She left a note on the fridge that read 'be back in a jiffy! Going to buy some food ( If I can find one ) finish your room! I have my phone. Love you lots ~ Mom'.

I finished unpackin' the rest of the boxes and started to give my room a last touch to it. After bout an hour my room looked the same but different. Well that's a contradiction. Ma bought me curtains for my room since I had one of those windows seat. It's lovely.  But the thing I was bummed 'bout was, since I now live in central London, the lights from the city out shine my stars that I gazed at almost every night back at home. That's 'bout the time I passed out on my bed til It was 11p.m. ( 5 p.m. Texas time ). By this time Ma has been home and also took a nap. Or should I just call it sleep. Any who I looked in the kitchen to indeed find food such as Ramon Noodle Soup, Chicken Noodle Soup, Milk, Eggs, Pancake Mix, Butter, Cranberry-Pomagranit Juice, Flour, spices, Cereal, and Hot Chocolate. I give my Ma a personal high five, gold star sticker. After a lonesome dinner of eatin' bout' 3 servings of Ramon Soup, I looked at the time and it was 1 a.m. ( 7p.m.Texas ). And outta nowhere I wanted to jog 'round this place to explore one last time. So without my Ma's permission I laced up my tennis shoes, put on nikes shorts, a T-shirt, pulled my hair up and removed all my jewelry, I ran out the door.

As I walked down the stairs and passed the hallway Niall and I talked in, I peered my head out to see if it was raining. Indeed it was but I wasn't gonna back down on just a lil drizzle for runnin'. Besides I was in Cross Country and Track. And just like my band director say ' If there isn't any lightning outside, then there is no excuse to leave when it's raining.'  But also I have "severe" Astraphobia. Meaning fear of Lightning and Thunder. Ever since I was a lil kid rather, lil baby I had tropical storms always crashin' in on us. This was when I lived in Brownsville, Texas. Brownsville is 5 minutes North from the Mexican border and 30 minutes West from South Padre Island. It's a town that I adore and lived the first 6 years of my beloved life.

As I twisted the knob to the door to go outside, I heard another door from behind open. I turned 'round and I found Niall standin' there in the hallway starin' at me.

"Yes?" I said.

"Now!? Now you're goin' to run? At a time like this?!" he said confusingly.

"Well I thought I could cause it's 'bout 7-ish in Texas."

"What if you get kidnapped? Get rapped? You can't run right now. Not at one in the mornin'."

"Well what do you suggest I do at a time like this?"

"Oh well. . . I kinda just woke from one and I already ate n all so now I have energy to kill."

*Sigh* "Well then just wait there." he gave out.

I was so confused. What was this guy tellin' me to do? I'm just goin on a harmless run. Besides Ma said that this is a safe neighborhood. And also I would just run through some parks and explore a bit. Just 'round the corner that's all. He then came out back to the hallway all dressed up to go runnin' like me.

"If you're runnin' then I'll just have to run with ya. Don't wantcha to get hurt." he said.

"Hey um. . . nobody said you had to come with me. It's just a harmless run maybe 'round the corner a few times."

"Well apparently, new girl, things can happen."

At this time he jogged passed me to outside. He's puffin' and huffin' gettin' ready for a run. He's stretchin' and then stares at me.

"Well aren't ya gonna go runnin'? Or are you too tired?" he bragged.

"Whatever school boy! Jus' 'cause I haven't been runnin' doesn't mean I won't be slower than you!" I shouted.

He chuckled and he lead the way but I ran next to him and he must be pretty fit under those baggy clothes of his 'cause he kept up with me. More like I kept up with him. After 'bout a half an hour of more or less jogging, we called it a night. We stretched once more then high-fived each other to victory. He held open the door for me, which to me is such a gentleman action, I thanked him.

"So I'll see ya at school?" he asked.

"Ya totally. Wait Niall?"

"What. . . How old are you?"

"I'm 18. You?"

"16. So you're in a different grade than I am?"

"I'm afraid so but that's okay 'cause now you have an upperclassmen bodyguard friend." he said with a smile.

"Bodyguard? Friend?"

"We-well yeah. . . we are friends right?" he asked with a hint of sadness in his eyes.

"Well you didn't exactly asked me to be your friend." I said playfully in a British accent.

So then he got down on one knee and grabbed my hand. He looked up as I gazed in his blue-green beautiful sea eyes and said, " Ryan Gómez, will you be my friend?" I blushed a bit. I think he saw. But I shook it off and answered, " Well I guess so." We both laughed and he got back up.
