6. Worries

Chapter 6

”I’m so glad you’re okay, I got really scared… you know, for you,” Louis said. I sat in the Audi R8 with him, breathing hard after the short run to the car. I really had to start working out more. I smiled at him, hoping it looked like a reassuring. He didn’t seem pleased with the smile, but started the car and drove off. I thought about what my parents would say, about me ditching half of my day, but hopefully Miss McCone covered for me.

“What was that crazy teacher doing with you?” Louis asked, his eyes fixed on the road, but the harsh expression in them weren’t hard to read. I really couldn’t blame him, since she nearly had jumped on him the same morning. I shrugged my shoulders nonchalantly.

“Nothing, really… She kinda saved me, I think, from the others. And she said she would support Liam and me,” I said, hesitantly, because I wasn’t sure of his reaction. His eyes flashed for a moment, but I couldn’t read it. The expression in his eyes gentled and he held his hand out to squeeze mine. I was a little surprised by his touch, but I relaxed instantly when I saw his friendly, worried look in his beautiful blue eyes. I smiled at him, feeling the wonderful warm feeling relief and happiness brought to me. He moved his hand and focused on the road again.

“Well, you know, if she doesn’t I would’ve bitch-slapped her, so I guess she didn’t have a choice,” he joked and I felt an unexpected giggle escape my lips. I instantly moved my head to my thighs and tried to cool my head with my ever cold hands. Beside me I saw Lou smile at himself, fighting not to laugh at me. As my face cooled off I lifted my head to glare at him angrily, but my eyes caught sight of the street, packed with huge, beautiful houses, no villas. I felt my chin drop as I starred, wide eyed, at the buildings. Finally I was able to close my mouth.

“Wh-where are you taking me?” I stuttered. He glanced at me out of the corner of his eyes and smiled.

“Just, to my parents’ house. I left Eleanor there, and I figured you girls might as well get to know each other,” he said, nonchalantly, as if he brought his friends’ girlfriends to his house to meet his own. Then it hit me; I was in the car with Louis Tomlinson and I was on my way to his parents’ house, to the people who brought this man, this amazing guy to this world. And his girlfriend, the beautiful model, Eleanor Calder, was there too. Oh my God. I could not believe this. I was just about to start shrieking, but controlled myself at the last second, because I remembered Louis was right beside me. He would probably freak and just drop me off by the side of the road. Luckily, he didn’t seem to notice my inner fight, and just drove up the driveway to a plain, but beautiful house. I had to fight against my chin that was so sure of dropping. Luckily I won. The house was yellowish and of bricks, it had huge windows and you could just see the curtains by the sides. The driveway was also huge and contained 3 cars, other than Louis’. There was a small stone path up to the front door, which was white. Beneath it a brown doormat signed ‘Welcome Dear’, and it really made me feel welcomed. I stopped in front of the door, not really sure what to do. Louis came behind me, and as I glanced back at him, he smiled encouraging at me. I took it as a sign for me to walk in, so I grabbed the handle and walked in to a nice entrance. In there a beautiful girl welcomed us and I recognised her immediately as Louis’ girlfriend, Eleanor Calder. She shrieked as she saw Louis and ran right into his open arms. I smiled and couldn’t help but watch their every move, imagining getting to do the same with Liam someday. When they pulled away from each other I was still watching them. Probably also looking like a creepy stalker. Eleanor turned and widened her eyes when they fell upon me. It was like she hadn’t seen me, even though I came through the door before Louis did. Whoa, she must really love him; she actually forgets everything around her when he’s in the room. Her eyes became more focused and she recognised me.

“Oh, Ava right? Oh gosh, I’ve been looking so much forward to seeing you!” she said and hugged me. I hugged her back, feeling overwhelmed. In the same minute Louis’ mum came into view.

“Oh hello, I didn’t know we had company,” she said and gave Louis a stern look.

“Mum, this is Ava. She’s Liam’s girlfriend,” he said, laughing a bit nervous. Her eyes lit up instantly and she, too, hugged me tightly.

“Ava… Ava! Yes of course, Liam has told us so much about you! How are you? Would you care for a cup of tea? Is there anything you want?” she babbled on and on. I didn’t really catch up, so I just starred at her until Louis interrupted her.

“Mum, calm down. Don’t scare her off,” he said jokingly, but something in his voice made me think there was a small truth in his words. She closed her mouth, sent Louis another stern look and sent Eleanor and me a caring one.

When she was out the door, Eleanor grabbed my hand.

“Come on, I want to know everything about you!” she said. I just smiled and nodded at her and we went into a room I guessed was Louis’. It was a bit messy, but in a comfortable way. There was a double-bed and a walk-in closet. Two windows were placed in the wall, and the same curtains were hanging by the sides, as in the rest of the house. The walls were plain white and the floor was of wood, so was the ceiling. Eleanor practically ran to the bed and sat in it, patting it next to her. I smiled at her and sat down next to her.

“Okay, so how did you two meet?” she asked, her eyes sparkling. I sighed as I had small flashbacks. She listened carefully as I told her everything, down to every detail. I even told her that Liam had smelled like those One Million perfumes for men. We laughed a bit at that and I continued telling. When I was finished I realised I had been so occupied in my own story that I hadn’t even noticed Louis coming in. He watched me just as interested as his girlfriend did.

“Yea, that was about it,” I said, staring at my hands. I wasn’t exactly sure of what I had told, since I had told from my flashbacks, so I might as well just have babbled on about some nonsense. Lou or Ell’s faces didn’t tell me anything, but they didn’t look confused so I guess what I’d said made sense.

“That is so romantic!” Eleanor said, hugging me again. “And you look so adorable together,” she added. I was just about to thank her, but then I wondered where she would know that, since this was my very first time I had ever met her. I pulled gently out of her embrace so I could look her in the eyes.

“Uhm, thank you, but how… how can you possibly know that?” I asked her. She looked at me as if I’d just fallen from the sky. “What?” I asked her.

“Were you born yesterday or something? You’re everywhere!” she said, as she handed me a magazine from the bedside table. True enough; a huge picture of me - that I had NEVER in my life seen before - was planted on the front page. The title said, with fat, black letters: “New little sister – or something?

I felt my chin drop as it hit me: I was 14! He’s 5 years older than me. I couldn’t believe it, I felt like a little girl, fantasising this whole thing. I glanced at Ell’s kind and beautiful face, and realized how old she was too. Like, how could we ever be friends? She would always see me as a little girl. I felt the tears start to form in my eyes and my gaze dropped to the floor. Slowly I put the magazine down and stood. I heard the bed creak as Eleanor stood too. My brain was raising and all I could think of was to get out of here; I felt like I was a big joke. But, of course, my feet wouldn’t move. I sighed silently, but apparently loud enough for Ell to hear.

“Ava? Are you alright?” she asked. She sounded really worried, as a friend, which just made my eyes tear up even more. Dang it. Knowing it would be rude to just walk out, even though I couldn’t walk, I turned around to face her. Surely, my feet could move now, so I took it as a sign that I was doing the right thing. Her eyes were just as worried as her voice.

“Yeah, sure,” I said, but my voice broke. She shot me another worried glance before smiling apologetic.

“I’m so sorry. I thought you had already seen it, I mean, it’s all over,” she said.

“Yeah, well. My mum doesn’t buy those magazines. She thinks they’re full of lies,” I said and glanced at the magazine again. I still had that ‘little girl’ feeling, and really wanted to get out of there. So I decided to lie.

“You know what Ell? I actually feel a bit sick. Would you mind to drive me home?” I asked and hoped my face would be white. I guess it was, because she immediately held her palm to my forehead. She wrinkled her forehead. I wondered if she was thinking the same as I was: I was so young that I didn’t even have a license.

“You do seem a bit warm. I’ll ask Louis to drive you home, I don’t have my license on me,” she said and led me out of the room.

Louis and his mum sat by the kitchen counter and seemed to be in a very serious and secret conversation – they were speaking very quiet. Eleanor had her hand on my shoulder as she followed into the kitchen.

“Louis, I do not care. How old is she, 14? That would be that same as if he was dating Lottie, your sister!” Jay whispered frantically. “And I bet she’s a virgin too. Imagine Liam taking your sister’s virginity. Huh? Can you imagine that?”

“Mum, chill out, will you? You know Liam. He would never do anything she woul-“ Louis started, but stopped dead when Ell cleared her throat. Jay looked like she was about to fall off the chair in shock.

“Louis, Ava isn’t feeling well, would you mind taking her home?” Ell asked him. Louis looked a bit scared – probably afraid I heard him – but then relaxed and smiled in response. I tried to smile back at him, but it didn’t feel right on my lips. Jay got up and went to hug me. Eleanor handed me my bag and then hugged me too before I turned to walk out the door with Louis.

The ride back home was silent and uncomfortable. I tried not to think of what Jay had said, but it was true. I was so young. It had never been a problem before, but now that I had fallen in love with a boy, no a man at the age of 18 it suddenly was. I couldn’t help but wonder if he would get tired of me and my immatureness.

“Hey, don’t you worry about what my mum said,” Louis said. Huh, guess he did know that I’d heard them.

“I don’t… It’s just,” I started, but I couldn’t seem to get the words out. How was I able to speak my emotions to this wonderful guy I’d met a couple of weeks ago? “I-I know she’s right. Because… She is. I’m 14 and he’s 18. Soon he’ll be 19, and then there will be five years between us. He had an amazing girlfriend before me and-“ I babbled on and on, but was cut off by Louis’ laugh. “You think this is funny?” I asked, a bit offended and hurt; here I was, opening my mind and heart, and all he did was laughing.

“S-sorry, it’s just so funny! Liam said just about the same yesterday,” he laughed on. I turned my head and stared out the window. I hadn’t noticed the rain that had started pouring from the sky.

“Liam’s worried too?” I asked without noticing the words that seemed to come from my mouth. Louis stopped laughing, but I could tell he was still smiling.

“Yes. Ava, he really cares about you. He’s worried that you’ll be scared of the fame and of the maturity he has. And even though he really want to become physical with you, he will wait till you’re ready,” he said, sounding more and more like a brother instead of a friend. Slowly I turned my head to find him looking at me with caring eyes. I was about to tell him to keep an eye on the road, but then I felt the car wasn’t moving. Again I looked out of the window and saw my house. Weird I didn’t notice it before.

“Thank you for taking me home,” I said, facing him again. He smiled warmly at me and leaned in to hug me.

“Anytime love,” he said and held me for a moment. Then we pulled away and I opened the door. The wind hit me like a wall and I shivered. I shot one last thankful glance at Louis before I slammed the door. I watched the car as it drove down the lane until it rounded the corner.
