The Game

Ever since the beginning of middle school, five guys have a game that they play. They hook up with girls and sleep with them. They'll break girls' hearts but sometimes they are lucky enough to get a girlfriend. This year, it's Amber's turn to participate in 'The Game'. Will she go along with it or reject the boys? And will she fall in love or get her hear broken?

6. Training: Day One

~Amber's POV~

I get off the city bus and go inside the college. I go straight to the gym to the locker room and change into my other set of clothes. I walk out with my stuff and put my hair up as I make my way to the track. Once I get there, I set my stuff down and wait for Liam.

~Liam's POV~

When the last bell rings, I go straight to my locker and get all of my things. I exit the school and head off to the college before the lads can see me. I start thinking about Amber again and can't help but smile. When I arrive, I head to the locker room but run into my older sister. "What are you doing here Liam?" She asks. "I'm going to run. I wanted a new scenery so I decided to come here." "Alright. I'll let Mom know. Have fun." I nod and continue on my way.

Once I'm changed, I head out to the track. I see Amber standing by the bleachers and can't help but smile. I reach her and set my stuff down. "Sorry about the wait. I ran into my sister on the way here." "It's alright." She says and gives me a small smile. I walk towards the track and expect Amber to follow but instead she says, "Shouldn't we stretch first?" I turn around and look at her. "Uh sure." I say a bit confused but stretch out as well.

When we get done stretching, we step out on the track. "So I was thinking for the first lap we can start with a light jog and then increase the speed. Alright with you?" "Whatever you say Mr. Expert." Amber says and smiles at me. I laugh and can't help but notice how blue Amber's eyes are when see smiles. We start running and it's quiet as first but then we begin talking.

~Amber's POV~

I stand next to the bleachers and wait for Liam. Then I start to wonder where he's at. 'What if he doesn't come? Nah, he was so happy when I agreed. It probably took him some time to get away from the boys.' Next thing I know, Liam is setting his stuff down. "Sorry about the wait. I ran into my sister on the way here." "It's alright." I say and smile a bit. 'So maybe the boys don't know about this.'

Liam then begins walking to the track. I don't follow. Instead I speak up saying, "Shouldn't we stretch first?" He turns around and has a confused look but replies, "Uh sure." 'Guess he forgot that as a soccer player I need to stretch out first.' I shrug my shoulders and we begin stretching. Afterwords, we step on the track. "So I was thinking for the first lap we can start with a light jog and then increase the speed. Alright with you?" He asks. "Whatever you say Mr. Expert." I reply teasing him and smile. He laughs and then we begin running.

As we run, we don't say a word. 'The least I can do is talk to him. He is helping me out.' I think to myself. "So Liam...how's school been for you?" "It's good. Getting good grades and just enjoying my classes. What's your favorite class?" "That's a tough one. Probably either Creative Writing or English. What's yours?" "Music. Why do you like those two classes?" "I love to write! It's just so relaxing." "Wow." He says. "Didn't know I like to write?" I say. "You could say that." He laughs. We pick up the pace and continue talking about what we like to do and our families. I learn things I never knew about Liam. 'Maybe he isn't so bad after all. He's fun to talk to.'

As we get to the last lap, we start to slow down. Once we get done, we walk back over to our stuff. We both are breathing heavily. He pulls out a bottle of water and takes a few sips. "You alright?" He says looking at me. I nod my head. "Did you bring any water?" I shake my head no. "Here. You can have some of mine." And he holds the bottle out towards me. I look up at him and he nods. I take the bottle and take a few sips. "Thanks." I say and hand it back. "No problem." I pick up my bags and then look at Liam. "Meet me here everyday at three thirty." And then I start to walk off.

"Wait!" I turn around facing Liam. "Yes?" "Would you like to come over for supper?" He asks. I'm shocked at what he says. 'Did he really ask me to have supper? At his house?' "I don't know Liam." "C'mon Amber. My house isn't that far and you must be hungry after that run." He does have a point and it will take me a half hour to walk home. "Sure." I say and smile. He smiles back and picks up his bags. We talk some more on the way to his house.

~Liam's POV~

I want to start a conversation with Amber but don't know where to start. "So Liam...how's school been for you?" Amber asks. I smile glad that she started the conversation. "It's good. Getting good grades and just enjoying my classes. What's your favorite class?" "That's a tough one. Probably either Creative Writing or English. What's yours?" 'Does she like writing?' I would tell her my favorite class is Drama because it's with her but I also really like music. "Music. Why do you like those two classes?" "I love to write! It's just so relaxing." She says smiling."Wow." 'So she does like to write. I'll have to remember that.' "Didn't know I like to write?" Amber asks. "You could say that." And I laugh. We pick up the pace and continue talking about what we like to do and our families. 'She's such a cool girl. Maybe we can be friends.'

As we get to the last lap, we start to slow down. Once we get done, we walk back over to our stuff. We breath heavily and I pull out a bottle of water and take some sips. I look over at Amber. "You alright?" I say and she nods her head. "Did you bring any water?" She shakes her head no. 'Let her have some of yours.' "Here. You can have some of mine." I hold the bottle out towards her and she looks up at me with some confusion and I nod my head to tell her it's fine. She takes it from me and take a few sips. "Thanks." Amber says handing it back. "No problem." Amber picks up her bags and looks at me before saying, "Meet me here everyday at three thirty." And then she starts to walk off. 'Do something Liam! Invite her over.'

"Wait!" I call to her and she turns around. "Yes?" "Would you like to come over for supper?" She looks a little shocked and then replies, "I don't know Liam." "C'mon Amber. My house isn't that far and you must be hungry after that run." She ponders it for a minute and that agrees. I smile and pick up my bags and lead the way home.
