Beautiful D i s a s t e r

Scarlett Elouise "Elle" Fosters is your regular everyday 16 year old girl. She has your normal everyday dreams. To fall in love, get married, and have a family. Those will just have to wait however. At the young age of 13, her mother and father both abandoned her and her two younger brothers, Dusty and Reef. Ever since she has been fighting to keep them together, her only source of money being her uncle. He gives them $500 a month but that always goes towards the boys. Oh hold on, she also has a one year old baby girl, but that was due to the fact that she was raped. She has all the good grades, the looks, and the good attitude. Everyone in the school looks up to her as an idol, not knowing of what happens behind the scenes. Behind locked doors and closed screens, she's been to juvy 21 times, charged for stealing 45 times and breaking and entering 12 times. Can a simple curly headed singer change her life?

3. The School Fair

~One Year Later~

I looked about the apartment and grabbed all I needed, shoving my things into the large bag I got from Goodwill. The bags sides were swollen out and somethings stuck out of the top.

"What are you doing?" Reef asked from behind me. I didn't turn to face him but instead kept packing as many things as I could into the bag.

"I'm trying to fit as many things as I can in this bag and give them to the school. Mrs. Patty's stand gives you money for your stuff."  Today was the school fair and I was taking the boys and Reagan. The school fair wasn't really anything too big.

"Elle! Hurry up! I wanna go climb the rock wall!" Dusty called and peeked around the corner holding Reagan. I turned and smiled, making a silly face to Reagan, causing her to laugh.

"Momma!" she screamed out. The language of all one year old babies. I stood up and picked up my baby girl, her light brown eyes never leaving my face. I ran my hand over her hair, parting the brown curls and kissing her forehead.

"Alright, I'm done. Let's go." I said and grabbed a small backpack with 'Reagan' stitched on the outside in blue and green letters. Reef grabbed the large bag, letting out grunts at its weight.

"We better get loads of money for this. This shits heavy." he mumbled and looked at me. I glared at him and hit the back of his head

"Don't say that." I only warned. He rolled his eyes and continued walking with Dusty not far behind. Walks to the school were often boring, filled with someone babbling on about something not of importance. When we reached the school, stalls filled with food and games decorated the parking lot. There was a huge rock wall by the gym, a dunk tank by the cafeteria, and even some rides. I was impressed.

"Reef set the bag down and then you can go." I ordered. Reef let out a huff and found Mrs. Patty's stall, placing the bag on the ground and looking at me.

"Hey, Reef!" a group of girls called and waved to him. Reef looked at them and smiled, waving before calling out to them.

"Hey! I'll be there in a minute!" He turned and looked at me with his blue and green eyes

"Can I go now?" he asked. I nodded and saw him run towards the group of girls. The girls began to laugh and giggle, already starting to joke with him. I laughed to myself and turned to Mrs. Patty who was holding a large amount of money in her old hands.

"I'm very impressed Elle, but then again, nothing more from the school's valedictorian. Here, its $1,567. Good job." she said, the wrinkles on her face speaking her age. I took the money and said a thank you before putting it in the back pack. Valedictorian. Yeah, I'm one of those smart kids. That's actually the only reason my brothers and I attend the school. My mom was a friend of the headmaster. He knew of my record, often commenting on it. My record, however, was kept on the low. No one would take a smart criminal so he made a deal to let my brothers and I attend as long as I don't steal from the school and since my mother was a close friend of his. Oh and as long as I made good grades, which that's what they always were.

"Elle." Dusty called and I looked down.

"Can I go spend the night at Coda's? His mom said it was ok." Dusty asked, his eyes hopeful. I only smiled. I knew Coda's mom well. Coda was one of the only friends Dusty had.

"Sure. Just be good ok?" I told him and kissed his forehead.

"Thanks, Elle! I love you!" he exclaimed before running off with Coda. I smiled and felt a strong tug on my hair. I let out a squeal and turned my head to see Reagan laughing.

"Very funny goober. Let's go find Auntie Gigi." I said and kissed her cheek. Reagan smiled and clapped her hands, flailing them everywhere. I looked around for my best friend, checking every face that had the distinguished jet black hair and blue highlighted tips.

"Elouise! Elouise!" I heard my name being called. When I turned to look and see who it was, I came face to face with a bunch of freckles. I almost let out a loud scream, my eyes popping open. Gigi only laughed and threw an arm around my shoulder.

"That was fun!" she said and looked over at Reagan. Gigi let out a small gasp and smiled, reaching out to Reagan.

"Ray Ray! Come to auntie!" she cooed. I smiled and let Reagan go into her arms. I watched as the two played peek-a-boo, laughter coming from them. We had started to walk and were passing countless stalls. One stall caught my eye. It was a jewelry one. I went over and looked at the dangling necklace. It was made of seashells and was rather cute. I looked at the price and shook my head. Five bucks for this? I looked around and saw no one pay attention to me. The ever so constant 'Hey Elle!' I would smile and wave, slipping the necklace into my sleeve.

"Elouise!" I heard Gigi call. I turned to see her by the rock wall. I looked around to see that no one had witnessed what I just did. I jogged over to her and smiled, the necklace peeking out of my sleeve. I quickly put it in my backpack, letting out a relieved sigh.

"Hey, I entered this contest to win One Direction concert tickets and a VIP pass. You should really enter. As literate as you are you could win." Gigi said with a blank expression. She was watching people climb the rock wall, Reagan tugging on her hair. I only managed to laugh.

"Me? Win? Ha that's cute." I told her as I leaned against the wall behind me. I loved One Direction just as much as the next girl but I didn't stand a chance. One Direction did change my life in a way. Gigi gave me a CD player and their sophomore album, Take Me Home. I had to admit, it was really good. I stopped cutting because of it. I loved all of the boys but there was one certain boy who caught my eye. Harry Styles. I didn't know much about him but his solos. Through those, I could tell how sweet and genuine he was. Still though, 1.4 million people will enter the contest. How could I be the lucky one?

"I'm serious,Elle. I'm mailing mine tomorrow. Think about it." she said with such a serious tone that it was pretty scary. The rest of the day was filled with laughter and fun. Reagan won some cute baby thing, Gigi forced me into some cake walk and I won a white sheet cake, Reef was spending the night with his friend Frankie, Gigi got hit on, and we took silly pictures. One thing stayed on my mind though. The contest. Should I?

I looked about and saw the sun's golden rays cast over the sky as a deep orange. Sunset. I looked at Gigi who was walking with Reagan. I smiled and came up behind Reagan, swooping her up and tickling her. Her body went into a fit of giggles. I smiled and looked at Gigi.

"We're gonna go. I'm gonna wash up little bit and have dinner. See ya, Gigi." I said and hugged her bye. Gigi only smiled and waved good bye. The walk back home was pretty calm, sort of unusual without the senseless babbling.

We arrived home around six o clock. I set the things down, the diaper bag, the necklace and a few other things I took. I lifted my sleeves up as I took Reagan to the bathroom to wash her up. Scars from where I cut were there, and also a tattoo no one knew about. It was of a bird cage with the door open and a feather drifting down to the ground. It was one of those meaningful ones. I'll let you figure out what it symbolizes though. After about half an hour of fighting with Reagan to wash up, we finished and dried off.

"Bad baby." I said with a kiss to her tummy. Dinner that night was tuna fish sandwiches and a coke. After eating dinner and getting settled down, I found a piece of paper and a pencil, thinking a bit before starting to write about One Direction. Gigi only mentioned that the contest was about 'How One Direction Changed You'. My hand was writing ninety to nothing, I felt like I was talking to my best friend. The pencil kept going without me even thinking about it.

A yawn escaped my mouth as I looked at the clock to see it was 1 in the morning. I rubbed my eye sleepily and looked down at Reagan who was clenching her teddy bear tight. I looked at the pages before me, I ended up with about four pages. I smiled wearily and folded the papers, tossing them into the diaper bag.

"No way is anyone going to read that." I whispered before laying down to bed.
