6. Leaving

Alyssa POV

"Thank god 7th period is over," I thought as the bell just rang. I just need to get through one more period then summer is hereI shuffled past other people out of my english classroom. I started walking down the hall to my left. I tried to make to make my way to the staircase as quick as I could but there were too many people trying to do the same.

"Hey skank!" . I started to run, but I wasn't much of a runner. They finally caught up to me, grabbed me by my hair, then pushed me against the lockers.

"Bet you thought you could outrun us you little fucker," one of them snarled at me. Once they'd finished kicking me, they left, snickering and called me names. I ran until I got to my final class. I sank into my seat by the door, sighing, relieved that I somehow barely made it on time. I kept my head down for most of class, not even trying. Once class was finally over, I sprinted to my locker; I needed to get out of here.

I placed my beanie on my head and threw my backpack over my shoulder. As I began walking down the steps to the the main entrance, someone pushed me from behind, making me fall forward down the stairs. I quickly stood up and brushed myself off before walking faster this time. I saw Isabelle and I ran towards her.

"Isabelle!" I called.

"Oh, hey Alyssa! I have to go home." she said sadly.

"You'll be okay. Text me if you need anything." I reassured her.

"Thanks." she said then walked off to her bus. I walked to the back end of the parking lot where I had my car parked so people wouldn't vandalise it again. I climbed into my car and started to drive home, taking the long way to give myself some alone time. I sighed to myself wondering how we'd gotten such awful lives. I swear we were mistakes.

I got home and made a snack before doing my homework. I walked past my little brother, Josh, and jogged up to my room and plugged my headphones into my phone, playing music loudly from my favorite playlist.

After a small nap, I saw my door open and reveal my older brother, Parker, looking worried and standing in the doorway. I took off my headphones to see what he had to say.

"Alyssa, Isabelle is downstairs and she doesn't look too good," he explained quickly. I bolted off my bed, past Parker and down the stairs into the living room where my best friend stood. Then I stopped in my tracks when I saw her condition. She had a suitcase resting beside her leg and she was covered in bruises and marks. Her eyes were red and puffy from what I assumed had been from crying. I couldn't even bring myself to look at her arm. It was bleeding severly and had multiple shards of glass stuck in it.

"Thank you." she said weakly.

"Why are you thanking me?" I asked her, wishing I could help her as soon a possible.

"Just for being my only friend, for always being here." She explained.

"You know I would never leave you. Now let's get your arm cleaned up. We'll get those glass shards out." I said, leading her to the kitchen. After a lot of hard work and some of Parker's efforts, we finally got all of the pieces out of  her arm and had it bandaged up well. I pulled her into my room to talk to her privately.

"We should leave. School's out and we both hate it here anyway. Why the hell not?" I suggested to her. She nodded in agreement.

I went to my closet and pulled out my black duffel bag and began to pack some of my stuff. I wanted to tell my brothers but I knew they'd try to talk me out of it so we had to make sure they were both in other rooms while we left.

Once we loaded our stuff into my car, I pulled out of my driveway and began to enjoy the feeling of freedom already. I had no idea where I was going but I wanted to get there as soon as possible. It started getting darker as we continued our trip, now on some highway. We had been driving for what seemed like ages now an I was starting to feel tired but I didn't want to pull over quite yet. I began to switch lanes when another car seemed to come out from no where. I swerved, trying to avoid it but it was too late.
