Forever Young

Aubree is only 16 years old but has already had a rough life. When her older brother Jared dies from his battle with cancer, her whole world seems ruined. She starts really questioning what she wants to do with her future because she doesn't think she'll ever be able to sing again until Liam comes into her life. Can Liam help her get the courage to sing again or will she take a completely different road with someone else?

3. A New Beginning

It had been seven months since Jared's funeral and I was just starting to live life normally again. I did pretty well in school, making mostly B's and occasional A's here and there but I still didn't really know what I wanted to do later on in life. I really liked animals but I haven't had many pets to practice with since my dad was always a germaphobe. Since Jared's death I've tried to be more social and open towards others and since then I now have two more best friends being Brooke and Trent. Brooke, like Ariana, has long lighter blond hair but has grey eyes whereas Ariana has a deep green/blue mix. Trent's very tall and muscular with jet black wavy hair and piercing grey eyes. We all get along which is great so we hang out all the time, mostly at my house making fires and having campouts like little kids.

"So are you coming with us," Trent asked Monday morning.

"I haven't asked but I want to".

"Well let me know tonight so I can arrange rides".

"Will do". Trent had been wanting to go to the zoo to iceskate even though it was already summer and really hot being in Mississippi. I wanted to go but my parents had been very cautious about how much they would let me go out. For whatever reason they thought that since Jared had passed I would be more rebellious which I guess you could say I sort of was but I never wanted to do  anything "bad" I just wanted to be with Ari, Brooke, and Trent all the time to keep me from thinking about Jared too much.

"So could I go to the zoo with them, please?" My dad was looking at a sporting magazine while my mom folded clothes beside him.

"Who would be driving because you know you aren't allowed to take our cars yet".

"I know and I think Trent may be driving but I'm not positive". My dad raised an eyebrow at the name Trent.

"Trent, huh?" I only rolled my eyes.

"Dad you know him, yes Trent."

"You like this fella'?" I began to get frustrated.

"He's a best friend. That's it. So can I go or not?". My mom stopped folding clothes and whispered something to dad.

"You took your A&P test right before summer, right?," mom questioned. Crap. I knew I probably didn't do well.

"Yeah, took it."

"Okay so if you made an 85 or higher, you can go. If not, you can help me clean. You need to catch up on your chores anyway."

"Deal". I ran upstairs and skyped fourway with Ari, Trent, and Brookie.

"I had to make a deal", I began, "that I had to make an 85 or higher on that A&P test before summer ". They stayed quiet for a moment before Brookie finally spoke.

"That test was pretty hard, think you did that well?"

"I don't know, but I couldn't tell them I thought I did poorly. I have to take what I can get".

"I just dont understand," Ari started, "what their problem is with letting you go out and do completely harmless things with us".

"I guess they just think I'm still 'depressed' about Jared-which I still get upset but I'm not 'depressed'-anyway they know how crazy us teenagers can get after such a tragedy".

"I can see where they're coming from with that," Trent chimed in.

"Well, we'll know tomorrow. I'm actually gonna hit the hay guys, night!" We all said goodnight before I ended the skype call and got ready for bed. On my way the the bathroom I stopped in front of Jared's old door. I knew I shouldn't go in but  hadn't in ages. His room was exactly how he left it-posters of wrestlers, and other pro athletes-but the thing that caught my eye the most was his guitar and portable piano set sitting in the corner. I walked over, gently brushing my hands over the guitar strings then moving them over the piano keys.

"He played all the time," I whispered. His room was chilly, but the air wasn't on yet. I folded my arms together and began walking for the door until I felt a small gust of wind. I took a step back but shook it off, "Weird..", was all I said before heading back to the bathroom to wash up before bed.

I looked online the next day for my A&P grade and I was surprised to see I had made an 88. I quickly called everyone, including my parents, and told them the good news. Trent told me he would drive us all that night and he would be at my house with the others at 6:00p.m. The rest of the day was pretty boring-cleaning up the house and doing some laundry but I made sure to keep music playing to get me pumped for later that night.

"Aubree, lets go you're laggin'!" I heard Ari call from Trent's truck.

"Coming!" I yelled back. I told dad I was leaving because I couldn't find mom.

"Back by 11".

"Okay, I promise".

We walked into the zoo but went straight to skate before it got crowded, we would just see the animals when we got tired of skating. The arena was lit up in multicolored lights and they had Pandora blasting. I put on my skates but stopped before I got onto ice.

"What's wrong?", Trent asked.

"I uh, can't skate.."

"Oh, I'll help you. It's not so bad after the first few rounds". I took his big hand and let him lead, holding onto not only his hand but entire arm for support. Just as Trent predicted, I eventually caught my balance and started skating on my own until I started having a little too much fun and started going a little too fast for a beginner. I hit the ice hard, having skated into a tall muscular figure.

"Oh crap, I'm sorry! First time skater". I quickly hopped up and helped him to his feet.

"That's alright. I'm Liam".
