It's 4050 and the world has had to revert back to basics. Kacela is possibly the best huntress and hired asassin in the entire of Escocia. The country is alive with thieves, killers, and hunters. A new sickness known as the Mal Plague is striking Escocia, and the people are dropping like flies. The only way to stay immune is to stay away......

15. Sword Fight

Kacela's hand flew to her hip. An empty leather sheath greeted her. Damn it! She'd forgotten to take it back.

Jumping delicately from Ignis, Kacela drew her sword and raised it.

Clang. Metal met metal as Glenna swirled the sword and bashed it against Kacela's, forcing the asassin back a few steps. It was clear that Glenna was inexperienced by the way she used the sword and the way she moved her wrist, but none the less she was agile and swift and absolutely made with rage.

Kacela flicked her sword back, feigned a left, then darted it to the right and managed to make a long, thin cut along Glenna's side. Gasping, her opponent clutched her wound, feeling the hot, slick blood. Glenna's sweet, youthful face contorted with fury and she began thrusting the sword so hard and fast it was all Kacela could do to block it. Left. Right. Right again. Left. Straight to the head - Kacela bent backwards at the middle and kept her torso bent down as the blade sliced through the air above her. Aim at the feet. Left.

Deftly blocking each it, Kacela could see Glenna getting tired. The girl was young and tired and hungry and angry, and instead of giving her an easy, quick slit to the throat, Kacela twirled on her toes, kicking out with one leg, feeling it meet Glenna's neck. She heard the winded oof, the thump on the grass, then dropped her leg, instead placing it directly over Glenna's heart. She pointed the tip of the sword at Glenna's throat.

'I tried it,' Kacela said, and smiled slightly. She drew her foot off Glenna's chest and sheathed her sword, hurriedly snatching up Glenna's as well and stowing it away. Glenna stood up and grimaced, clutching her side.

'Find another forest,' Kacela said shortly. 'Stay away from me and Ignis. Stay safe.'

She hesitated for a moment, then reached into her bag and threw her second loaf of bread at Glenna's feet. She turned, mounted Ignis, and rode away, leaving the young Glenna of the Forest - exile from her home, Escocia - to herself, with nothing but some bread.
