14. Moving On

I found myself in the hospital again. Only this time, I was more pregnant. It was like I was in labor or something. Only instead of my water breaking, there was blood everywhere. I didn’t know what was happening. Joe was not with me. No one was with me. I was alone. On my own. I tried screaming for help and nothing came out of my mouth. I felt like everything had to go wrong.
“Addie? Addie! Addie!!” My eyes opened. Joe was leaning over me on the bed. “Addie, are you ok, dear?” I didn’t know what was going on again. I shook my head. It was 3 something in the morning.
“I just had a bad dream.” I whimpered. Joe kissed my forehead and crawled in bed next to me. He pulled me close to him. It was close enough that there was nothing that was not touching. I kept my head against his chest.
“Wanna talk about it?” he asked me softly. I just shook my head no.
“Let me up for a second, please.” I whispered. He let go of me. I got up and went to the bathroom and shut the door. I pulled up my shirt to examine my stomach. ‘Nope. Same old tummy.’ I thought. I took some Advil for my headache and went back to the bedroom.
“Everything ok?” he asked me. I buried my face in his chest again and nodded my head. “Will you tell me what the dream was?” I shook my head. “Why is that?” I looked at him and then put my hands on my stomach. “That bad?” I nodded.
“Worse.” I mumbled.
“Oh.” He pulled me closer to him. I looked up at him. He looked down at me and kissed me. “Baby?”
“Hmm?” I whimpered.
“You know I love you right?” I nodded. “And you know that no matter what, you’re mine and I’m yours right?” I nodded again. He grabbed my hand and kissed it. I didn’t realize it was my left hand. “You see these rings?” I had both the wedding and engagement ring on. I nodded my head. “The day I asked you to marry me and the day we got married were the best days in my life. Both days, I told you how much I love you.” I started tearing up. I looked up and kissed him gently and then gave him a pitiful look. He put his hand on my face and stroked my cheek with his thumb.
“I love you.” I whimpered.
“I love you too.” He said softly as he kissed me again. I curled up against Joe and closed my eyes. I heard Joe’s breathing become shallower as if he was crying. I looked up at him and saw tears from his eyes.
“What’s wrong?” I asked in a sympathetic tone. I put my hand on his neck and he put his hand over mine. He didn’t answer. “Babe, what’s wrong?” I asked again.
“I’m so sorry for what happened a couple weeks ago when you were first…you know. And I just feel like this is all my fault from the stress I put on you and—“
I stopped him with a kiss. “Baby, don’t. Just don’t, baby. None of this is your fault.” I kissed him again. “Babe, I love you more than anything. None of this was your fault. Don’t blame it on you. It’s God’s way of showing us it just wasn’t right.” He nodded his head. I wiped the tear from his nose. “We will know when the time comes that it was right, babe.” He kissed my forehead and held on to my hand.
“I love you.” He whispered.
“I love you too. Please don’t say that it’s your fault.” He nodded and held me tighter.
“Let’s go to sleep, babe.” He whispered. We shared one last kiss before we both passed out.
