Summer Love

Every summer, Kaylee has to go to the Kalihari Desert while her mom is studying meerkats with other scientists. She's the only teenager there, and it's very lonely. Kaylee expects her last summer going to be miserable, but that all changes when she meets the love of her life--Louis Tomlinson.

14. Never Leave Me Again

The next morning, the sun beat down and warmed my skin and the rock I had been sleeping on. I sat up and looking around at the now dry and breezy field. Maybe it would be a good day.

Or not. I doubted it.

I got up and started walking like the last day. I had nothing to do, no one to talk to…so I just lamely talked to myself.

“Oh joy,” I said. “Here I am, limping along on my own through the desert and I don’t know where home is.” I kept trudging along before I continued my lovely conversation with myself. “This all started because of that stupid snake made me trip on the stupid rock and break my stupid ankle and Louis was going to get stuff to heal the stupid ankle and somehow got…I don’t even know what happened!” My eyes started to water. I wiped tears off my cheek. “Now Mom’s probably worried sick. And Louis, too. I haven’t been home for nearly two days!”

I walked on in tears for another hour. “Louis!” I yelled again. “Louis!” I stood there still for a few seconds.

Just when I was about to loose hope, I heard, “Kaylee?” It was Louis!

“Louis!” I screamed back, looking in all directions for him.

“Kaylee!” I heard from behind me. I spun around and ran as fast as I could, not caring how much my ankle was hurting.

I saw Louis appear in the distance. “Louis!” I screamed.

We drew nearer and I ran faster. I jumped into his arms, and we kissed like we would’ve never seen each other again. I pulled away. “Where were you?” I asked, then I leaned back in.

Louis pulled away now. “Looking for you.” We kissed again, the pattern continuing for the whole conversation.

“I thought I’d never see you again,” I said, almost crying.

“You scared me half to death,” Louis told me.

“Never leave me again,” I exclaimed.

“I promise I won’t,” Louis assured me.

“I love you, Louis.”

“I love you.”
