26. Back For You (ending)

Once we arrived at the school for prom, I let Renee and Jack roam off. I was just standing alone the whole time, stuffing my face with punch and chips. Ashley kept giving me dirty looks, like "If you guys were so in love, why isn't he your date right now?" I would just roll my eyes and ignore it.
Everyone else looked like they were having such a good time with their dates. When it came to the slow dance, I ended up standing by myself in the center of everybody. Renee looked at me over Jacks shoulder with sorry eyes, while Ashley gave me "don't you wish you were me" eyes. My eyes welled up so I started my way towards the back of the gym.
When I was about to open the door to go to the bathroom, the music stopped and a familiar voice spoke loudly. "Sorry to interrupt," he said. It was Louis! I slowly turned around. He was standing onstage. "I need to tell somebody something." Everybody looked around at each other confused. "Kaylee?" he said. Everyone stepped aside, forming an aisle leading toward me. "Remember when I said I'd write a million songs for you?" I slightly nodded. "I did." He started singing Back For You, doing ALL the solos.
"Baby, you don't have to worry, I'll be coming back for you, back for you, back for you," he sang.
"Kaylee, I made a huge mistake," Louis confessed. "Leaving you behind was the stupidest thing I have ever done. We could've kept it going. I just--I--I love you, and I miss you, and I need you to go on."
A silence fell through the room. All eyes were on me. Louis walked down the steps at the other end of the aisle. "What do you say?"
Good thing I had taking those heels off earlier, because I started running down into his arms. Years of joy ran out of my eyes. I kissed him like I had after just two days of being lost in the desert--I never expected I'd be nine whole months without him. He lifted me up and spun me around. "I love you!" I whispered.
