Here I am

Winter. The perfect time to find a new love, to fall in love and trip into the unkown in the arms of someone. But love at first sight isn't what it could be... Sometimes there is a dark side to it. Love is not as simple as it's said to be. Death comes and everything is thrown away but what if you have a destiny to fulfill? What if your life is cut too short? What if your love does not move on?

5. Sometimes not all memories are good

We entered the warmth to be greeted by my mother and father and a man I recognized. “Hello dear and Lord Robert, how was your ride? Not too cold outside?” My mother questioned as Robert led me to a seat opposite all three of the adults. I nodded in response looking at our guest and Robert as I realized this must be his father, no wonder Robert just seemed to accept him and act calm round him. “Yes thank you mother, it was very delightful. I am awfully sorry to be away from our guest, nice to meet you. My name is Elizabeth but I am sure you know that, but I am so sorry to be rude unfortunately I do not know your name.” I announced as I bowed for our guest then took my place next to Robert putting space between us making sure we looked normal. “It is lovely to meet you again my dear, I am Charles. I assume you have realized I am Robert’s father as he is much like the younger me.” Charles replied as I remembered him from when I was younger at countless balls or gathering laughing with my father, I assumed they were old friends for a very long time. “Of course, it is lovely to see you again, what brings you to our household?” I questioned curious at why he had just appeared. “Well, your father invited me as we had not seen each other in a very long time and I was told Robert was staying here due to the terrible weather. I must say it was a terrible trip here in my carriage let alone on a horse.” Charles said, I nodded in agreement and excused myself to warm myself and to sleep after a busy day. I walked towards the stairs and turned round to see the staircase empty; I sighed and headed towards my room alone longing for Robert’s warmth around me. I changed quickly and lay down in bed debating whether to call for Katelynn or not. All I could think about was what Robert had said and how he felt the same as me. I sat up with a sudden thirst, I strolled towards my door grabbing a gown to keep me warm, and as I reached the stairs I saw Robert walk up completely ignoring me and slamming his door quickly behind him. I knew he wanted to be alone, so carried on to the kitchen. I reached the kitchen to see nanny and Katelynn tackling a pile of ironing, I smiled hoping to avoid conversation as I suddenly was not in the mood for company. They smiled back as I poured some water for myself and headed back upstairs, “goodbye dear Elizabeth,” I heard Charles call. I turned round and walked towards the front door to join my mother and father, “Goodbye Charles, it was lovely to see you again.” I announced as he lightly kissed my cheek then left. I carried on up the stairs ignoring my parents and any attempt they made to talk to me, which they probably did not. I reached Robert’s door sighing debating whether to knock, I decided not to… if he wanted the company he would come find me. I pushed open my door and placed my water on my bedside table as I climbed into bed. Shutting my eyes, I thought about Robert as I drifted off to a deep and peaceful sleep.
