8. I Hate Goodbyes

I hate goodbyes.  Especially when I know I’m probably not gonna see them again.

Nick had a hold of my hand, and same with Joe and Addie.  We stopped in front of our cars/buses with both hands in each other’s.  I looked up at Nick with watery eyes.  He had never kept his gaze off me.  He smiled and gave me our last good bye kiss on the lips.  It was short and sweet, although, I wished it was longer, but my dad was in the car watching and waiting on us. I pulled away from the kiss letting his hands caress my cheek and wipe away the tears that were now falling.  He looked deep into my eyes and kissed my nose.

I giggled and smiled back at him.

“I’m gonna miss you, even though I’ve only known you for 3 hours, I’ll still miss you,” Nick said pulling me into a tight hug.

I never wanted this to end, especially like this.  It was so hard.

“We must keep in touch, you hear me?” he said as he brought my chin up to look at him.

I smiled, “But how?  You are on tour all the time and we can’t really keep up with each other’s busy schedules!”

I whined a little, regretting him leaving soon.  He kissed my cheek one last time before whispering in my ear, “I really don’t wanna lose you.  Us.  I think it could be something real.”

He cupped my face in his hands and as soon as I blinked to kiss him, he ran inside the bus, wiping his eyes.

I felt broken.  I really wanted us to last forever, but there was no way on earth that that could happen or work out.

I looked at Addie crying into Joe’s chest and hugging him tight.  This was just as hard for her as it was for me.  They pulled away as I walked up to them, and hugged Joe for a while.

“You take care of her, ok Leah?” Joe said pulling me in tight as he let his tears fall.

“I promise I will.  She’s gonna miss you,” I whispered in his ear.

He looked at me with sad eyes but toughened up for Addie.  He gave her one last kiss on the lips and ran into the bus after Nick.  Papa J said his good byes to us as we thanked him for everything.  He waved to my dad and yelled, “Drive home safe!”

My dad nodded as Addie and I got into the van.  I curled up with Addie in the back crying, then I remembered something.  As my dad started to back up, I yelled, “Wait! Stop the car!”

My dad slammed on his breaks and I burst out the van doors yelling at the bus driver to stop moving and let me in. He did so and opened the doors for me.  I ran in holding 2 CDs.

“I forgot to get these signed! Can ya’ll do that for us real fast?  The Jonas Brothers album is mine and It’s About Time album is Addie’s!” I said as I walked into their living room, on the bus.

Joe, Nick, and Kevin smiled as I handed them the CDs.  Joe took the It’s About Time CD and wrote a cute note on the back of the CD.  Kevin signed the Jonas Brothers album and handed it to Nick.  Nick immediately went to the back of the CD case and wrote a really long note.  So sweet!  Joe finished his letter to Addie and handed it to Kevin to sign.  Nick passed the CD he had to Joe to sign.  Joe looked up at me and smiled and wrote a little smiley face next to his signature.  After Nick signed Addie’s CD, I took them and hugged them quickly before I left.

I got back in my car and handed Addie her It’s About Time CD.  She grinned as she saw the signatures but then asked about Joe’s.

“Look on the back,” I said smiling from ear to ear.

She excitedly opened to the back of the case and read silently, tearing up with every line she read.

“Look at what he wrote me!” she yelled excitedly and passing me the CD.

I looked on the case and low and behold, he wrote his number and contact information on it.  I smiled and looked at what he wrote me.

“Nick wrote me a note too,” I said smiling.  I quickly opened it and read each line with an open heart.  It said:

“Leah,

Listen.  I can feel you and I growing into something.  I don’t wanna lose you. Ever. I mean it.  Call me and keep in touch. XXX-XXX-XXXX.

With all my love,

Nick <3”

I couldn’t control my smiling after that.  I knew we could do it together.  I took out my phone and saved his number and email, which he wrote before on a Waffle House napkin.  I texted him immediately.

“Hey Nick! <3 It’s Leah! I’m kinda missing your hugs right now and I’m sure Addie is missing Joe’s.  She is still crying but she got his number too.  :( well I need my rest so I’ll talk to you in the morning. Good night! Sweet dreamies”

I sent it and started to drift off to sleep, smiling at the thought that we are still in touch.

As soon I closed my eyes, I felt the light shine bright.  I opened my eyes and saw a text from “Nick <3”. I opened it with shaky hands.

“Hey Leah! I saved your number. I hope that’s ok.  Anyways, Joe is still down too.  I think it will be best if we not tell my dad that we are still in contact.  My dad might get upset because we need to focus on our career. You better sleep and I should too.  Good night, beautiful. Love you.”

I looked back at Addie who was lightly crying herself to sleep.  “He was right,” I thought.

I texted him back.

“You’re right.  It is best for you and your brothers.  Love you too.”

And with that, I curled up on my seat and drifted off to sleep.
