I Say Forever

3. He's Perfect

The arena started to fill up rapidly.  “I hope my dad can find us,” I thought.

After the seats were almost completely filled up, my dad entered the doors looking around for us.

We saw him and started to wave our hands to get his attention.  He skimmed around and spotted us, and waved our t-shirts up in the air to let us know he saw us and was coming.

When he finally got to us, he handed us our new shirts, and we threw them on top of the shirts we already had on.

The lights started to dim and that cued everyone to scream like maniacs.

“WE. ARE. THE JONAS BROTHERS!!!!” yelled Joe, back stage on the microphone.  This caused the volume to increase.  I saw Addie with a smile on her face as she screamed, “I LOVE YOU!!” to the stage.

The room was black for a second, but then a curtain rose, revealing 3 figures in the smoke and back light.  There they stood. The Jonas Brothers.  Nick on the left.  Joe in the middle.  Kevin on the right.  Through the shadows you could see the grins on their faces as they looked out at the sold out arena.

Suddenly, Joe yells, “S. O. S.!”

The music blared as the screams got louder and the concert began.

After about 4 songs, Nick decided to slow it down a little.

“How are you guys doing out there?” Nick asked walking up to the piano.

The crowd went wild.

“We’ll take that as a 'good'," laughed Joe.

“So guys, I have a new song that I want to play for you tonight,” Nick said playing some keys on the piano.

The screaming fans unexpectedly took it down a notch.

Joe and Kevin helped shush the crowd, waving their arms downward to get everyone even more quiet.

As Nick played this beautiful melody, I could already tell this song would be another favorite of mine.

“You know sometimes life brings out its complications and some hardships, but you know, it’s how we deal with them that counts.

And I know that each and every single one of you in this audience tonight have been through a hard time in your life before, right? I know that each and every one of you have felt, at one point, like you couldn’t go on. But then you found hope. There’s always some way to find hope. Remember that..

..There was a time in my life when I got diagnosed with diabetes, and I thought that I’m not gonna be able to live my dream, getting to do what I wanna do. That was two years ago. And I can say, today, that I played for 12,000 people in Birmingham, Alabama.

That happened ’cause I found hope. How many of you people in this audience tonight need to find hope? How many of you need to find a friend? And how many of you need to feel some peace? Well like I said, that’s what this song is about.

And tonight, this song- this song is for you. This song is for every broken heart tonight, and for every broken dream, for every high and for every low. Don’t ever forget it.”

Addie and I looked at each other, tears flowing out of our eyes.  Even my dad’s eyes were watering.  Nick had that effect on people.  He can move any crowd to laughter or tears.  He was an angel to me.  I smiled through my tears at the thought.  I saw a tear escaped Nick’s eye as he continued to play.

“Got the news today, doctor said I had to stay a little bit longer and I’ll be fine…” Nick started singing.

As he sang the song, we all waved our cell phones and lighters and swayed with Joe’s arms.

When he got to the last chorus he spoke, “Now, what I want you to do now is to sing with all your heart and with all your soul. ‘Cause something happens when 12,000 people in Birmingham come together and sing a song alright? Now this song is for this generation, and this generation is gonna sing it out. Sing it with me now!” Nick yelled, standing up from the piano and grabbing the mic.

We all sang the chorus with him.

“Cause you don’t know what you got until it’s gone.

And you don’t know what it’s like to feel so low.

Every time you smile or laugh, you glow.

You don’t even know, know, know.

You don’t even know.”

He finished the song and bowed saying, “Thank you.”

We all screamed for him.  I am so proud of him being so strong.
