New Boy On The Block

When your whole life gets a lot better.

2. His Past

She sat down on my bed. A few moments passed by. “Umm darling, Well you know Mr Cox from next door. His sister and her husband have died in a car crash. Her son Mark has moved in with him. So when you meet him be nice.”

“I’ve already meet him.”

“When was this?”

“Just now, I walked back with him from the bus stop. He kind of helped me.”

“What do you mean “he kind of helped you”?

“Umm it’s nothing I dropped something. He helped me pick it up.” I said quickley trying to hid the fact I was lying.

“Okay. Well make sure you’re nice to him, I’m going to take some casserole around there later. Would you like to come?”

“Umm yeah, okay.”

“Okay well get out of them wet clothes and put something smart on.”

“Okay mum.”

She got up of my bed and went down stairs. I got up and walked over to my closet. I took out a smart top and a pair of black jeans, and got changed.  I went down to the kitchen. Mum had just taken the casserole out the oven. It smelt appetizing and made my belly growl. I sat down at the kitchen table.

“Hmm smells lush mum”

“Yeah I know, you ready then?”

“I’m just going to get my coat on, and then we can go around.”

“Okay” I got up from the chair and picked up the casserole pot. I started walking toward the door. Mum was standing there.

“Yup” I opened the door and walked down the drive. Mum followed me. We walked up to Mr Cox’s door and rang the bell. Mr Cox answered the door.

“Hello, we thought you might like some casserole.”

“Hello, thank you. Please do come in.” he moved out of the door way to let us in. “Mark, come down please.” Mark started to walk down the stairs. He was now wearing a blue hoodie and a pair of black skinny jeans. “Mark this is Summer. She lives next door.”

“I know, I’ve already met her”

“Okay well we will be in the kitchen if you need us.” Mr Cox and my mum walked into the kitchen.

“Hello, I’m really sorry about your parents”

“It’s okay, it’s not like it was your fault.” A single tear fell down his face. I walked closer to him, and wiped it away with my sleeve.

“I know how it feels not having parents around my dad died of cancer 3 years ago”

“I’m sorry to hear about that”

“it’s fine, sometimes it just doesn’t feel the same without him”

My mum and Mr Cox walked out of the kitchen. “You okay kids?” mum could see there was something wrong. Mum walked over to the door. I could hear her high heels on the wooden floor. “We have to go now. I have to get ready for our trip to your granddads tomorrow”

“Okay mum just coming” I turned back round to Mark “I have to go now but if you ever need someone to talk to I’m always available” he gave a little smile then hugged me.

“I know you are thank you. We only just met but I can tell we are going to be good friends”

I walked over to the door and look back at him. I didn’t want to leave him. He looked so upset, it made me sad.

We went back home. I went up to my room and sat down on my bed and lent against my wall.
