On The Outskirts Of The Gang

Rosa is a pretty, self-conscious girl who wants to be cool. She's a bit afraid of Jessica, the most popular person in the entire year. As she clings on at the edge of Jessica's gang, she notices things that slowly make her realise that there is something odd going on...

21. Sunday 12th October

The sleepover was AWESOME! Jessica's house is massive, and her bedroom is twice the size of mine. The walls have a white background but it's far from boring; elegant flowers with gold stems and bright petals are painted up them, all different heights. It's not at all childish, just pretty. Her double bed has a black metal frame with roses on the top and bottom ends. The curtains are a warm purple colour, and have gold flowers in the same style as on the walls. Above all, the whole place is totally neat. I felt a bit ashamed as I compared it to my room, which is what I call 'cosily cluttered'.

The activities had been perfectly planned out. We had quite an early dinner, gnocchi with home-made pesto. It was quite refreshing! Their dining room is big, like everywhere else in the house. There wasn't any pudding because we were having snack food later.

After that, we went into the lounge to watch a film. Almost the whole floor was covered with embroidered cushions, and the only light was coming from a dim lamp.

"We didn't want to put the main light on if you're going to watch a movie." Jessica's mum explained. "The lamp makes it more... atmospheric."

I could see what she meant. It seemed like we were in a mini-cinema, but more comfortable because of the nests of cushions we had all created around ourselves. The popcorn that Jessica's dad brought in half way through added to the effect.

When we went back into Jessica's room later on, we found that we had plenty to chat about. It wasn't one of those stupid times where everyone decides to see if they can stay awake all night, though. We all went to sleep at about quarter to eleven.

I hadn't had time yesterday afternoon to test my cupcakes on Mum before I went to Jessica's, so this morning I got out two from my tin and we had one each. They were delicious! I was glad because I hadn't been sure whether they had turned out alright. I'm looking forward to having another one when I go shopping with Penny.

I haven't actually told Penny anything about Annie yet. I only actually found that out this morning, when my mum said how surprised Lorraine had been when she'd mentioned it.

"Lorraine said to me that she'd thought Penny told her about every single thing you said! She didn't understand why she hadn't heard about it!"

"Penny wouldn't have any reason to hide it, and I must have told her... oh, wait, I don't think I have!" I was genuinely shocked at myself. Never mind, I can make up for it today.

I'm still set on finding a black starry pair of roller-skates. As well as that, I'm going to try and look out for some black Jailbird boots. There's a craze for them at school, and they make you look kind of cool and strong-willed. The gang aren't into them much but everyone else loves them. They would go with my hair, and if they're currently fashionable then even better!

I've got to get my stuff now to go to Penny's. Bye!
