17. Monsters

(Leoni's P.O.V))

I felt my heavy eyelids opening. It was still dark in the room. The room, it was upside down. I became aware of my situation and though I tried to righten myself, I gave up and allowed myself to continue laid upside down. I closed my eyes again and took a deep breath. They flashed open as I took in how easy it could be to reach the door. 5 steps. I twirled over and hung on the edge of the sofa I'd been sleeping on. There was no sign of Beyond anywhere. I took a step towards the door. 4 steps. I hesitated as a small creak came from one of the rooms behind a closed door. My breathing hitched and I took another step towards the door. 3 steps.

2 steps.

"Gah!" I cried as I was taken from my stable standing position and swept off my feet. I hit the floor with a thud and I groaned.

"You weren't thinking of leaving were you?" The crouched man sat before me. He hobbled on the floor, crawling towards me like some sort of frog.

"Of course not." I replied and dusted my shorts. "I need a change of clothes." I said as the idea popped into my head.

"And how do you suppose you gain such materials?" Beyond crawled a little closer. His dark eyes flashing red again. I hung my head as no suitable answer presented itself. "Well, well, well... The former L without an answer. This is a different scene." B smirked from behind his thumb. I hid my eyes, he was correct again.

"I do bore of geniuses." I whispered before leaving B on the floor and walking into the kitchen area. I checked the bare cupboards. "Huh?" I asked to myself as I skirted from cupboard to cupboard trying to find anything. Maybe some jam or something.

"We're moving." Beyond slurped up another handful of jam as he enlightened me with a mono-tonal voice. I huffed and crossed my arms.

"Fine, lets go." Beyond's brows furrowed as he took another handful. He shook his index finger over at me and my right brow arched.

"Uh, no." He managed as he licked his lips. "Until I'm ready, we go nowhere." He popped the cap back on the jam tub. His tongue protruding from his mouth as he concentrated. He licked his lips again and I rolled my eyes. B then began licking each one of his fingers intently, removing any jam traces there. He watched me as he did and I found myself strangely centred as he did so. I felt like he was assessing me. Once again. I turned away and tightened my crossed arms.

"Creepy habits. Creepy geniuses. I give up." I muttered to myself.

"Does that mean you give up on L?" B was suddenly right beside me and smiling at my face as he spoke.

"B!" I exclaimed and shuffled away. I rubbed at my face. Beyond shrugged and began to wipe down anything I'd touched, including anything he'd touched. In fact, he cleaned everything. "What are you doing?" I asked in wonder as he came closer to me and began maneuvering me to clean around me.

"What reason be there to lie?" He asked, confusion in his eyes. I sulked.

"I hate you." I muttered. My bottom lip pouting slightly.

"Don't be childish." He jumped up on the counter and began unscrewing the lightbulb.

"What reason be there to like a man like you?" I said quietly. I left the crazed killer to his cleaning and sat on the floor, not allowing my fingers to touch anything. I glanced back over at Beyond to see a hunched man, hair covering his face, head hung.

"To like a man like myself..." He asked himself.

"There is but nothing." I said coldly. His head snapped up and his eyes glowed red. He was suddenly on top of me pinning me to the ground.

"I thought... I was your friend." I struggled against his iron grip.

"Listen to your own words. Yes. I was your friend." I spat at him. His face softened a little and I refrained from struggling as he reached for my cheek. His serenity was lost and his eyes blazed.

"Then why bother allowing you to live." He picked up my body and slung me carelessly over his shoulder like a bag of rubbish and headed for the window.

"Fine!" I cried. "Disrupt your killing sequence! That'll send em off your scent right? Get it done! Glad I could help!" I screamed at him as he reached the window. He stopped and I nearly fell from his shoulder. "I hate you!" I cried into his shoulder, gripping his shirt. "I never did love you!" I screamed, muffled only by his own body. I felt tears escape as I lied to him. I lied. I lied because I knew I'd loved him. Beyond, no Rue, had been everything. He was one of my only friends. I was dropped from his shoulder and a normal man stood staring out of the window. His back was straight, and his arms dangled by his sides. He turned to me on the floor and I wiped at my tears.

"You're a monster." He whispered, face shallow and broken. I nodded and curled into a ball. "That makes two of us." He finished as he sat beside me. Legs crossed. Not crunched. I allowed my head to rest on his shoulder. We were both monsters.
