L was a crazy guy. He had the weirdest of habits, and was unbelievably intelligent. So much so, that he had his name known throughout the world. Well, his 'L' was. Truly, L was just another guy, making his mark on the world. But he over looked a couple of things... His other half, and the one he left behind...

I lay back, thinking aimlessly of old memories. I glared at an old photo of us all. I guess the scene could be classed as happy. But... He had his head down, his shoulders slumped, and wouldn't even look into the camera. And I didn't look too impressed with Near's overly protective hold on me. Still I smile at it. Remembering how easy and simple life was then. I sighed and sat up, another day at Wammy's. I ran a hand through my hair, it's black shine falling around my face. It bugged me, but I didn't fancy tying it up. I scrunched up my face and stretched, unfortunately this left me open to attack.
"Belly!" Near shouted, his raspy voice coming closer. He tickled my bare skin and I yelped in return. Unfortunately for Near, he was too easy to sort. I pinned him back and soon had him begging for mercy. My little Near. I had always been like a sisterly, mother like person towards Near. Watching over him and caring for him. He was that sort of person to me. Though he had grown from being the tiny little child in the photo,  he was still my little Near, and that was never going to change. Near was easy to deal with, it was some of the others that had a problem with me. I was too bold, apparently. A violent character. Well, at least I fought back for what I thought was right. Some kids feared me, some my sworn enemies, others, (like Near) my best friends.

I evaded another hug attack from Near and headed for the door, my body, always hungry. I ran straight into Mello. Mello was one of those that I found it harder to get along with. We were almost carbon copies of each other In many ways. We both could handle a gun easily, our strength abilities matched fairly well, (though I always won) I guess I bet him on the flexibility side of things. But it was always funny to see him being beaten by a girl. Oh, and we both had crazy cravings for chocolate. I rolled my eyes as he barged past me, chocolate bar between his lips, the foil peeled back. I whipped round and tried to snatch it from him, but failed.
"Hah! Get your own." He left it to me as usual. I folded my arms, and headed out of the door. Only to be stopped by a call.
"Leoni! Wait!" Near came tumbling out, his cheery front changing to an icy mask as he came into the presence of others. I giggled and took his hand as I pulled him towards the kitchen.

With my belly no where near full enough, I left the kitchen area. Kids filed out, and went to get on with their lives. Near had changed from the easy going light hearted guy he was around me to the dark, mysterious kid who acknowledged no one. I sighed, and tried to take his hand again. He let me, but a patronising face hit me. His lips pressed into his usual line, and his pale face concealed. He reached up with his spare hand and twiddled a piece of his snow white hair. I ran a hand through it, knocking off his twirl. He didn't look impressed. I envied Near's hair, it was so pure, and natural. My dark hair only heightened my pale complexion and my dark eyes. I was literally a shadow. I pulled Near along, though he wasn't too pleased. Secretly, I'm sure Near loved it when I was more friendly to him. I stopped in the middle of the hallway. Near nearly fell flat on his face if I hadn't of counteracted my movements. He gave me a questioning look, but he understood as he followed my gaze.
"Go on." He urged. "Make him feel some warmth." Near took up a strand of hair and headed back to our room. I stood and watched him leave before taking a deep breath and heading a different direction. To sort out my other little cling on.

This kid was one I could only sometimes understand. Though he reminded me so much of him... I took yet another deep breath and came to stand by him. The boy, hunched up on a stool. His legs tucked tightly up to his chest, shoulders slumped and hair wild, kept on staring out the window, a if I wasn't even present. But I knew he knew I was there. Whenever I looked at him, he reminded me of a dopple ganger, of him. (A/N: don't care how, and when characters where presented originally, this is my fan fiction!)
"C'mon B, you gotta eat something more than just jam." He looked up at me. His piercing red eyes, something I found utterly beautiful, an evil symbol to others.
"It's fine Leoni. I'm fine. You are too caring." I smiled.

"At least... Try?" His eyes sank sarcastically and he tried his best not to smile. Beyond rarely smiled. It felt good to get one out of him. "C'mon!" I squeezed his shoulder. His eyes fell to my pale hand. I felt like his eyes were burning a hole through my skin. But I didn't move, didn't retreat. I was strong. I bent my knees and joined his crippled up height. "Please?" This only made his spying eyes concentrate on me. They burned that bright crimson, and it entranced me. I smiled, and he shook his head. I stepped back as he came to stand by me. Though he mimicked him with his hunched stance, he was still taller than me. I bit my lip at his height. "Meh." I grumbled. That got a little twitch. I had to force myself not to fist pump.

I walked with BB all the way to his room, I followed him in as I usually did and occupied him. As long as he didn't think about it too much, and didn't witness anything like that, he would remain this calm Beyond I could live with. His room was always dark, but I didn't mind. It was cool, out of the sun. I closed my eyes and perched on the end of his bed. He sat beside me, his hands folded. I pried into the noise that was apparent in the darkness, to see the flicker of a silver... I came to my feet and slammed Beyond against the bed.
"What are you doing!?!" The knife tumbled out of his hand. He cursed under his breath and kicked me off of him. I circled round into a perfect kick, but as usual, Beyond Birthday ha predicted my every move. He caught my leg and twisted me to the floor. I groaned. He always seemed to beat me.

The knife flashed again. It's cold surface close to my face, tracing my cheek. "Come now B, don't do it again."

"Shhh." He pressed a cold finger to my lips.

"B.... B please. You promised me." He got up and began to leave, the mischievous smile on his face. "Ryuzaki!" He stopped and turned back to me. "Please." He looked at the knife and let it drop to the floor. His eyes still burning. He ran a hand through his spiky mess of hair and came to sit besides me on the floor. His head rested on my chest and I stroked his wild hair, the hair that was just like his... I cradled him in my arms and he held me. As we would always. I started to sing softly. A melody, eerily sweet. It calmed his murderous passions every time.
