12. The Big Question

“My parents said that you did an amazing job tonight,” Joe said when we were lying in bed. “Mom said that she noticed that you were freaking out” I laughed at this.

“I know I was freaking out. And you know I was freaking out.” I replied sarcastically.

“Mmhm and you sang in front of 12,000 plus people tonight, baby!” I blushed. “How do you feel about it now?” He rolled on top of me and kissed me intently.

“Great now that I’m with you,” I said kissing him again. I didn’t wanna pull away. He rolled back off of me and I curled up against his chest. Joe held me close to him. I loved lying there and listening to his heartbeat. It was soothing and calming. He kissed my forehead. I looked up at him and he was smiling.

I didn’t believe him when he said that his parents said that I did a good job tonight. I was scared and shaking and didn’t know if I was being judged. I hate that feeling. When you think that someone is judging you. But, I was glad that I had him right behind me the whole time. I was glad that I had Leah on stage with me. That calmed my nerves a lot.

“Addie, can I ask you something?” Joe asked.

“Anything, love,” I smiled at him.

“Baby, I love you with all my heart, you are my best friend in the whole wide world. You make me the happiest man when I am with you. Will you please give me the honor of marrying me?”

I was about to cry. He is just the sweetest man alive. He had asked me this question so many times but this time was different. I don’t know how but it was just different. I looked up at him with tears streaming down my face and finally a small “yes” came out of my mouth. I smiled real big at him and he gave me the biggest smile I had ever seen from him. He kissed me with a smile still on his face.

“You finally said yes” he said with a smile on his face. I smiled at him and kissed him again.

I fell asleep shortly after that with my head on Joe’s shoulder. When I got up the next morning I decided that I had to call Leah. We were neighbors so she would be here in less than 30 seconds.

*Phone call*
Me: Leah, I need you here like pronto
Leah: Why?
Me: I have good news for you…well we have good news for you
Leah: Ok. Do you want Nick to come too?
Me: Yeah. It’s for both of yall
Leah: Ok. Let me change clothes and I’ll be right there.
Me: Ok. See you in a minute.
*End Phone call*

Within 5 minutes, Leah and Nick were sitting in our living room. We told them to just walk in when they come over. She looked at me with this look on her face that told me that she was anxious to know what the news was. I sat down on the love seat and we waited on Joe. Joe walked in and looked at us and held his breath.

“Ok so,” I began, “I honestly don’t know where to start.”

“Well last night we were lying in bed,” Joe said.

“Oh no, Joe,” Nick said with a chuckle.

“Well Joe asked me to marry him last night….” I said. There was a moment of tension in the room. I could tell that they wanted to know what I said. “And…I said yes” I finished smiling.

Leah screamed and jumped up to hug me. Nick got up and gave me a hug and he patted Joe on the back. We all ate breakfast together. We decided to go where it all began for us four…WAFFLE HOUSE. Memories came rushing back from almost 3 years ago. I remembered that I kissed him on stage right then and there, we knew that we had to be together. I knew it was him that I had to be with or no one at all. Yes, I had dated other people before I met Joe, but to be honest they were only with me to try to get in my pants and when they didn’t get what they wanted, they left me after I poured my heart out to them. They knew all my secrets and my deepest darkest fears. Joe knew everything about me. He guessed most of it cuz I was afraid to come out and say it. I thought he was the same as all the others. I rubbed the scars on my arms as the hurtful memories came back. ‘No Addie, stop this.’ I thought. ‘You’re better than that. You’re engaged to Joe Jonas, there is nothing to be sad about.’

“What’s wrong, Addie?” Nick asked me. I snapped out of my daydream.

“Oh nothing, just memories that came back from a long time ago.” I replied. We took our time eating. We laughed and carried on for over an hour until Nick got a phone call from their dad saying that they had to be at the studio within the hour. We paid for the check and went our separate ways. We kissed our men goodbye for now. Joe and Nick took Nick’s car and Leah and I took Joe’s car. I never drive his car because I have my Mustang. I wouldn’t let Joe buy me a car when I was living with my dad but for my birthday about a month ago, I let him replace my old Honda Civic with a Mustang. Ever since I was little I had been dying for a Mustang and now I finally got it. It’s my baby. But I still only drove my car. I think I drove Joe’s once or twice. On his speedometer, he had my senior portrait sitting there. Obviously it was a wallet size. ‘That’s new,’ I thought. Lean and I made it back home safely where we sat in the living room and put on 50 First Dates. Joe and Nick made it home about an hour and a half later. I guess Leah and I fell asleep on the couch. Joe took me in his arms, laid down and laid me on top of him and we just chilled in the house all day. Thank goodness for that because it was raining.  A couple hours later, I woke up and just laid there.

“I see you and my car made it home safely.”

“I am not a bad driver!” I said defensively. “At least I don’t have any dents or scratches on my car!” Joe laughed at me. He had a small scratch on his driver side door because someone in the parking lot at the grocery store parked too close and thought they had space to open the door to get out of the car. Joe picked me up and carried me to the kitchen and sat me in a chair at the bar. Nick did the same to Leah. Joe poured four glasses of grape juice as we all started talking and carrying on. I loved our family days. It was just relaxing to have some sort of family close by. My dad lives in Alabama with my sisters and my mom lives in Tennessee with my step dad. So sometimes it got lonely. Joe introduced me to Demi recently so her, Leah and I take at least one day a week to go to the mall or somewhere to hang out and bond. After a long day, Leah and Nick decided to go to home and go to bed. Joe picked me up bridal style and carried me up the stairs to the bedroom. I put on a tank top and Nike shorts and curled up in bed. I decided to be on my pillow tonight. I pulled the blanket up over my shoulders and closed my eyes. Joe slid up behind me and pulled me close to him. He kissed the back of my head as I fell asleep. Life was so nice. I have the best people in the world in my life.
