Winner of the Crossover Competition! *_* I decided to combine two of my favourite fandoms - Harry Potter and Hunger Games to come up with - The Hogwarts Games! I've tried to pick up the story of Harry Potter from where JKR left it, so the main characters are the new generation of Potters and Weasleys. It's set in Hogwarts and I've incorporated the concept of the Games in here. I've really worked hard on this, so I hope you like it :)

16. Chapter Sixteen

This time, Albus had expected it. The blow wasn’t as bad as it had been before but it still felt like falling right into a cold shard of glass and getting bruised all over with splinters of it. The floatation belt pulled him up and got his neck out of water soon enough, but his head was still unclear with too many questions. What was he supposed to do? Where was he supposed to go?

Just don’t think too much, Al. He remembered Professor Longbottom's words to him before the Games. Don’t think about what’s back here or what’s up in front. Just know what’s happening around you at the moment and follow your instinct.

“Al? Albus?”

He felt Rose’s arms thrashing in the water, looking for him. He grabbed her hand to let her know he was near and that he could help her if she was having trouble with swimming again. But he realised Rose was way too smart. She had already cast a Bubble-Head Charm on herself so now her head was encased in a magical shell inside which she could breathe. Her feet had become webbed, no doubt owing to another one of her brilliant charms. She could breathe and swim underwater quite easily now.

She did the same charms on him and immediately, Albus felt better. The bubble around his head allowed him to breathe freely but he didn’t need the webbed feet. James joined them soon, the same charm on him and also on his backpack, which needed to be kept waterproof in case there was something edible in it. They dived underwater together and kept swimming ahead, knowing this had to end somewhere. The water was too freezing cold for them to be able to survive in it for much longer.

They swam for what felt like forever without reaching anywhere. Rose was falling behind. She was pale and weary, and she looked like she would pass out any minute. The cold was getting to her. James and Albus had to pull her ahead between them, whispering constantly that they were nearly there when they could hardly see land anywhere around.

But just as they had known, there was another piece of land, although too far from the Cornucopia, but still there after all. They realised something was changing as soon as the water began to feel a bit warmer and much more bearable than before. They popped their heads up the surface to find a vast stretch of land awaiting them a few meters ahead. The sun was blazing hot and it was heating up the water near the shore quite fast, so much so that by the time they had reached, their skin, which had been numbed with cold just a few minutes ago, was steaming now.

As soon as they felt land again, they collapsed. There was coarse sand beneath them. They had reached a beach of sorts, Albus thought. But he was too tired to care about anything. He felt his eyelids dropping and very soon, he slipped away into peaceful sleep, tiredness overcoming all his sense of better judgment.
