Winner of the Crossover Competition! *_* I decided to combine two of my favourite fandoms - Harry Potter and Hunger Games to come up with - The Hogwarts Games! I've tried to pick up the story of Harry Potter from where JKR left it, so the main characters are the new generation of Potters and Weasleys. It's set in Hogwarts and I've incorporated the concept of the Games in here. I've really worked hard on this, so I hope you like it :)

9. Chapter Nine

How much ever of a monster he was, this one thing had to be said about Trevelyan - he definitely knew how to please any crowd in the world. He had arranged the Great Hall to look so magnificent in the golden fairy lights and silver sparkles flying around that even Albus had to admit he actually felt like he was happy. Well, the more he thought about it, the more it seemed to be true. Yes, he was happy…very happy…not depressed about the fact that the Games would start in two days and he would die very soon…happy…

He understood what it was even before he saw the comprehension dawning on Rose’s face. Trevelyan had arranged for a charm to be put on the Great Hall that night, maybe it was in the silver sparkles…a sort of drug that pleased every single person and forced their emotions to yield to sheer, senseless happiness. Yann Trevelyan himself seemed to be the only person who was not affected by it, no doubt owing to a counter-charm on him. But everyone else, from Professors to students to guests to The Daily Prophet reporters seemed to be in a cheerful trance. In his foggy mind, Albus saw exactly why the Games were popular among so many and felt disgust consume his insides once again.

In this dream-like state, if it was possible to be even more transfixed than Albus already was, he felt it happening when he saw Ariana floating into the Hall. She looked absolutely ravishing in silver and ruby coloured dress robes, her black curls bouncing off her face and blue eyes sparkling like magic. Her entire being was shining but her face seemed to be moulded in a defiant expression. She refused to smile and wave like the others had done when applause greeted them into the Hall. Instead she stared straight ahead stoically and let the feverish newspaper reporters all around capture her beauty in their cameras.

Albus felt his head spin. This charm in the air was drugging him so deeply that he actually began to wrap his head around the true magic in the Games and started appreciating the concept and hurtling praises at Trevelyan that he normally never would have. In the back of his mind he knew this was not him speaking, but the more time he spent in the Ball, dancing with random people and laughing and chatting, the more he seemed to be losing himself.

There was delicious food in abundance everywhere he looked but when he was going to help himself, a strong arm caught the back of his dress robes and dragged him out of the Hall. He didn’t think anyone had noticed but it took his slow brain a long time to register what was happening. Hagrid had pulled him out of that place, his face looking very serious.

“It’s the Dream Charm,” he said gruffly. “Yeh shoulda known Al, yeh shoulda known better.”

“What?” was all that Albus could say without fumbling.

“Yeh’ve bin careless, Albus Potter. Yeh shoulda made yerself scarce righ’ when yeh guessed it. Trevelyan’s playin’ with yer head.”

Albus gave him a blank look. Hagrid grunted and fished into his gigantic pockets to find a few squashed black berries that he told him to swallow without question. He did, what with his vulnerable mind that did not have the power to think anymore. But as soon as he had gulped the bitter berries down, he felt the fog lifting from his thoughts and he found that the charm that had settled on his entire being was lifting. He breathed deeply, relieved and thanked Hagrid.

“We should take some in for James and Rose too, right? Wait – will we be affected again if we go back in?”

“Nah,” said Hagrid. “The berries have lastin’ effects, Al. Professor Longbottom sent some in with me to give yeh. He’s bin growin’ ‘em specially for this day, yeh know? Ah, I wasn’ supposed ter tell anyone that. Well…anyway they’re very rare, these berries. An’ very powerful too. Yeh can go back in there righ’ now and nothin’ will happen. Here take some with yeh and give them ter yer brother and sister. Bu’ not ter anyone else. Got it?”

“Why can’t we give these to everyone?”

“Yeh’ll know soon. Jus’ take these berries in with yeh now.”

“Okay…thanks Hagrid.”

“Thank Professor Longbottom if yeh have ter. I gotta go back now, Fang’s probably hungry. See ya, Harry. I mean, Albus.”

Albus smiled. This was not the first time he was being confused with his father. Many people told him he looked the most like Harry than the other two. He secretly felt proud of this fact.
