Teenage Casanova

Being an heir to a billion dollar company wasn't all that it was cracked up to be; just ask pompous troublemaker teen, Harry Styles. Sure, it had its ups, but when your CEO father threatens to cut you off and kick you out of the family unless you take over the company when he steps down next year, it ends up putting a little damper on all the fun of being a spoiled rich kid. Growing up definitely wasn't on the agenda at only nineteen years, but maybe with a little time away that would give him the time to think it all over and figure out what the hell he was going to do. And to cause reckless chaos. In enters Kennedy Ross, a good girl from Seattle, Washington, who was being forced into spending her summer with her older sister in Barcelona, Spain. The only thing she wanted to do was get through the next few months with nothing but a good tan and a few memorable stories to tell. She just didn't expect that those stories would include a spoiled brat and a painter.

12. Lucky Strike

This will work.

Harry laid in bed, staring at the ceiling completely lost in thought. How did things end up here? He couldn’t believe how far he had gone this time. But it’s what he had to do, right? This was the only way he could weasel his way into her life.

But dating? That wasn’t like him at all. He didn’t date. At least, not anymore. Why was he taking such measures just to be around this girl? Especially for a girl that turned him down multiple times and was obviously not interested.

He glanced over at Hannah who was sleeping soundly next to him and wondered how far this thing would have to go before Kennedy would actually give in.

Is she even going to give in?

The thought of doing all of this for nothing stressed Harry out. This game was supposed to be fun. He was supposed to get the girl, make her fall in love with him, and break her heart just like his was in the past.

This wasn’t supposed to be complicated.

Harry pulled himself from the bed as quietly as possible and grabbed his clothes, sneaking out of the room before Hannah could wake up. He pulled his pants on and cradled his shirt in his hands, stumbling towards the front door. He paused outside of Kennedy’s room, staring at the door and wondering all of these different things.

Why was he so caught up in her? He had never met someone in his life that drove him crazy like she did. She was beautiful, yes, but that wasn’t shocking to Harry; all the girl’s he went after were. So why was this girl driving him insane? Why was he so set on getting her?

And why couldn’t he answer his own damn questions?

He was just about to turn away when the door to her room opened and out walked Kennedy in her very skim pajamas. Her hair was flying in all different directions and she was dragging her feet behind her, obviously still half asleep.

Harry couldn’t help but smile just a bit while staring at her. She actually looked quite cute for someone who had just woke up.

She stumbled her way into the room and ran right into his bare chest, not even paying attention to where she was going. And for a moment after she didn’t pull away, Harry was pretty sure that she had fallen right asleep again against him.

He froze for a moment, not used to this specific girl being all close to him, but after a few moments he couldn’t help but laugh softly. Now this was priceless. He wished that he knew where his phone was so that he could take a picture to taunt her with later on, but he just chose to help her instead of being a jerk for once in his life.

Harry picked her up swiftly and was a little surprised when she didn’t stir or wake up right then and there. She must have been a heavy sleeper. He carried her over to the sofa and gently laid her back down. He smiled as he grabbed a blanket that was draped over the couch and covered her.

“You’re gonna get me into trouble, you know that?”

He swiped a few stray hairs out of her face and tucked it behind her ear, sighing slightly. He couldn’t help but wonder if what he was doing was wrong. There a perfectly normal girl laid and he was trying to screw up her life. Why? Why did he have to go after the one girl who was giving him a run for his money?

He wanted to forget her. He wished that they had never met that day when he caught her hat for her. If he had just gone on his way and let her handle it herself maybe things wouldn’t have had to go this far.

Harry just couldn’t shake these feelings. He didn’t want to be this guy anymore. He didn’t want to be the guy that helped and was kind and considerate. He had been that guy before and in the end it just didn’t work out.

So why couldn’t he just let her go and go about his summer how he wanted to? Why couldn’t he just forget about the hat girl?

“Sleep well, Kennedy.”

He stopped crouching next to the couch and finally headed back towards the door, leaving the hotel room, shutting the door softly behind him, and quickly moving over to his, sliding his card key and pushing it open.

“Well,” Harry glanced up from the floor at the familiar voice, a little surprised, “it’s about damn time you show up, mate.”

The blonde chuckled and pushed himself off the couch, walking over and pulling Harry into a hug. The two embraced for a bit before Niall pulled away, his hands on Harry’s shoulders and a big smile on his face.

“It’s been a while! It’s good to see you, man!” Niall’s smile never left his face as he dropped his hands from his shoulders and pushed him. “How come you never texted me back? I’ve been waiting here since early this morning!”

“I had no idea you were coming. I lost my phone the other day and I just can’t find it. I wish I knew you were coming,” Harry sighed, but couldn’t help but smile. It was nice having his friend here, but he just didn’t understand the reason of his visit. “I would have cleaned up around here.”

“Fuck that. You know I don’t give a damn about a mess. I live like a caveman.” Niall sprawled out on the couch, kicking his feet up and smirking.

“What are you doing here, Niall? Why are you here?”

“Not happy to see me or something, curls?”

Harry rolled his eyes. “Of course I am. I’m just surprised.” He pushed Niall’s feet off the couch and sat in their place, glancing back over at him. “Really, why are you here?”

Niall shuffled in his seat, his face changing from the happy-go-lucky boy to someone who was obviously troubled. Harry wasn’t exactly sure why, but the look worried him and he wasn’t sure he wanted to hear.

“A couple reasons, really. Erm, I dropped out of uni. Decided not to go back when the fall comes. It’s not for me. I didn’t really want to go home and tell the folks so when I went to go find you to stay with, I heard you came to my turf for the summer so I decided a little holiday could do me some good.”

“Wait you dropped out of school?” Harry shook his head. “You’re so smart, why would you do that?”

“Out of all the things I say, that’s what you hear.” He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms, not really wanting to talk about it. “Look, it just wasn’t for me. And anyway, you have no room to judge. You didn’t even go to uni!”

“Whatever,” Harry sighed, trying to get back to what they were talking about. “Now what’s the other reason you’re here?”

Niall exhaled slightly, that same troubled look coming upon his face. “You don’t really want to hear about it, mate.”

“Then why the hell would you bring it up? Just fucking tell me so we can move on and actually do something.”

“Tara is engaged.”

The words that fell from Niall’s lips were room silencing words. Harry stared blankly ahead, not daring to meet Niall’s eyes at this point. He couldn’t even think straight; all he could do was stare. He wasn’t exactly sure how he felt. He didn’t know how to react. He didn’t know anything anymore.

Tara was getting married. He couldn’t wrap his mind around it and at this point, he didn’t want to think about it at all anymore.

“Really?” Niall just nodded in reply and placed a hand on his friend’s shoulder. “Good for her…”

“Do you want to talk about it?”

“Of course not. Why should I care? That’s not me anymore. I’m not that person anymore. So it doesn’t matter.” Harry pushed himself off the couch and walked around the room, picking up random things and trying to distract himself by cleaning.

“It does matter, Harry. You loved–”

“Niall,” Harry warned, turning to face him. “I don’t love anybody so leave it alone, got it?”

“Fine.” The older boy crossed his arms, giving up on trying to rationalize with his friend. He knew better than anyone that if Harry didn’t want to talk about something then they weren’t going to talk about it.

He just wished for once that he wouldn’t bottle it all up.

“Let me get this straight.” Niall turned away from the counter after thanking the shop owner for his drink and faced Harry. “You and Luca are fucking with all these girls and just making a mess of things.”

“Pretty much.” Harry pulled his sun glasses over his face, shielding his eyes from the blinding sun.

“I hate that bastard. And I hate the person you are when you’re around him.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about, Ni. I’m the same person with him that I am with you. There’s no change.” Harry grumbled as he sipped on his drink.

“That’s the biggest load of bullshit I’ve ever heard. You are way more tolerable when he isn’t involved. He’s such a dick, Harry! Don’t you see it?” Niall couldn’t believe how oblivious Harry was when it came to Luca.

“Hey, I don’t go around and bitch about your stupid friends. Stop complaining about mine.”

“You’re such a liar!” Niall laughed, shoving Harry’s shoulder. “You make fun of Kellen all the time and tell me to make better friends!”

“Well you should,” Harry grinned. “Anyway, look. Luca and I are just looking for some fun. No harm done.”

“A lot of harm done,” Niall sighed and leaned forward, his face turning serious. “Harry, this is fucked up. You can’t keep doing this, mate. Don’t you want to be happy? Find someone and fall in love?”

“Hey, I’m happy. And anyway, I’m dating someone right now.”

“Hold up, what? You sort of left that part out, my friend. What do you mean you’re dating somebody?” Confused wasn’t even the right word to explain Niall right now.

“Well, it’s complicated. Really, Luca and I made up this game to pull one girl in, get her to fall in love with us, and then break her heart by the end of our trip.” Harry only felt slightly bad about explaining his plan in full, but he shrugged the feelings away.

“That is beyond fucked up, Harry, and I think you know it.”

“You just don’t get it–”

“Oh, I get it. And it’s wrong, man! You can’t just mess with some girl’s head like that,” Niall placed his hand on Harry’s knee and looked him in the eyes. “Harry, we’ve been friends for a really long time and you know I’m always there for you. But this isn’t right. This isn’t you. You’re not this guy.”

Harry could hear the disappointment that flowed from Niall. He hated it, knowing that one of his only good friends in the world was actually upset with him for what he was doing. But what was he supposed to do? Call it off now? Say ‘sorry Luca, you’re on your own’ and move on?

That wasn’t going to happen.

“I am now.”

“Oh my God, Harry. Are you so far gone that you can’t see through your own bullshit? Geez, I really, really hate Luca for what he’s done to you.” Niall just couldn’t believe what he was hearing. This was his dear friend that he practically grew up with? No way.

“So.” Harry shrugged off everything that they had previously talked about and decided it was time to move on from the conversation now. “What are our plans for tonight? Clubbing? Party? What do you want to do?”

It took Niall a few moments to push away all his angry feelings, but eventually he did so and that same smile turned back up on his face. “I’m thinking a party. Might not be the kind of party you’re interested in though.”

“Why wouldn’t I be interested? Give me something to drink and I’m set.”

“Well, it’s actually more of a gathering than a party. A nice dinner, some drinks, and a lot of talking,” Niall twirled his fingers around, trying to get around what he was trying to say. “It’s going to be fun, honestly.”

“So you’re telling me that instead of going to a club and having some fun, you’re bringing me to some family dinner.” Harry was not looking forward to it.

“Not really a family, but basically,” Niall smiled. “You remember when I moved here a couple of summers back when my granny got sick and so I bunked with this guy since he needed to rent out his spare room? Well, he wants to give me some ‘welcome home’ party and what not.”

“I don’t have a choice in going, do I?” Harry smiled in return, knowing that if he tried to get out of it then Niall would probably tie him up and drag him there kicking and screaming.

“You know me too well.” Niall reached over the table and hugged Harry tightly. “I know I already said it, but it’s really great to see you, Harry. It’s been a while and I’ve missed hanging out with you.”

“I missed you too, buddy.”

The two finished up at the shop they were at and headed off towards their new destination. Niall pulled his phone out of his pocket, sending a text.

“Zayn said that we could come on over. He and his friend are finishing up cooking and then we can get this party started.”

“You do know when you say ‘get this party started’ you’re talking about some lame ass excuse for a good party, right?”

“Whatever.” Niall just continued to smile, excited about seeing his old roommate. “So tell me about your trip so far. Meet anyone other than this mysterious girlfriend of yours?”

“She’s not so mysterious. She’s just some girl.”

“Some girl that you tripped into dating you so that she’ll fall in love and get her heart broken in the end just like your stupid little game predicted.”

“Hold up, you think Hannah is the girl I planned this game around?” Harry chuckled and shook his head. “No way. She’s her sister.”

“So who is this girl then and why are you using her sister to get to her? Why not just go up to her and ask her out?”

“I messed up with Kennedy big time. Well, actually I just was myself around her.”

“Great so you messed up big time with the girl.” Niall cracked a smile. “And I’m guessing you were this you and not the you that I know and like.”

“I did everything I always did and nothing worked. I was nice, I invited her to a party, we drank, we talked, we almost kissed, and then when we got back to my room she handcuffed me to a bed when I thought we were gonna sleep together and she told me off and left me there for hours!” Harry groaned at the memory. It was definitely not his favorite time in his life and he wished that he could just forget it. “Needless to say, she hates me.”

“Sounds like she knew you were trying to screw her over and decided to get a little revenge.” Niall just shook his head, the smile never leaving his face. “I think you deserved it.”

“Hey!” Harry slapped his chest, getting a little ticked. “You’re supposed to be my friend! Why are you taking her side?”

“Oh, I am never taking your side in this, Harry. You already know that I think what you do is wrong and you should stop. Now tell me about Kennedy and why you look like that when you say her name?”

“Look like what?” Harry raised an eyebrow, curious as to what his friend meant.

“Like she’s captured your heart.” Niall hid his smile when Harry glared at him, obviously wanting to protest his comment. “She seems like she has a hold on you. So you’re dating her sister and not her. Why?”

“Kennedy won’t let me within a foot of her without a reason. If I date her sister that gives me a reason to hang around all the time.” Harry explained, feeling like his reason was brilliant when in reality it was pretty much sleazy.

Niall eyed him, a little curious about his motives. “You sure are going out of your way to get this girl,” he grinned. “You like her.”

“I do not.” Harry snapped.

“You do like her! Oh wow, this is great. Maybe the Harry that I know is really still in there. You’ve found someone you actually want to be with.”

“You’re wrong! I don’t like her; I just want to sleep with her! That’s it!” Harry couldn’t believe how defensive he was being and he knew that Niall wasn’t going to let go of this notion any time soon.

“So you like Kennedy and she hates you. So instead of trying to win her over you start dating her sister. Harry, your logic makes no sense.”

“Pretty much,” Harry sighed. “And I don’t like her. I just–”

“Can’t get her out of your head?” Harry glanced at Niall, frowning. “I get it, Harry. I’ve been there, but you shouldn’t have to go about it this way. Maybe if you just talk to her then you two can work it out and instead of being a dick to her and her sister you guys could go out.”

“I don’t want to date her, I told you that already. I just want to sleep with her.” Harry was done talking about it once and for all.

But as many times as Harry said it, Niall just didn’t believe what he was saying. By the look Harry had on his face every time he talked about her, Niall knew that there was something about this girl that was getting to him.

And Harry was afraid that Niall would never let it go. He was afraid that if Niall kept prying then maybe he could be right. And he, with everything he had, didn’t want him to be right.

“Whatever you say, mate. But I don’t believe you and I still say that you want her in a different way. She’s gotten to you.”

“She hasn’t so let’s drop it, okay? Kennedy is out of my mind for the rest of the day so let’s just go to your party, hang out for a bit, and then go have some real fun. Please?” Harry begged as they approached the apartment complex.

“Of course. You’re gonna love Zayn. He’s a really great guy. I think you guys would get along well,” Niall shrugged. “But don’t think you’ve found a new friend to bring into your whole stupid plans you have with Luca. I think he’s got his girlfriend in there helping him.”

“Well, so do I,” Harry smirked. “Maybe we can exchange notes on our chicks and see how similar they are.”

“You’re such a dick,” Niall chuckled as he pulled his phone out when it beeped. “Um, Harry?” Niall stared down at his phone, confusion crossing his face.

“What?” Harry turned to look at him as they walked up the stairs towards Zayn’s apartment.

“You lost your phone, right?” Niall finally looked up. “So how come you just texted me something really weird?”

“For real? Give it here.” Harry took the phone from Niall and stared down at the text. And once he read it over, his eyes flew wider than they ever have before.

“What the fuck?!”

Kennedy…should I listen to Niall? Is chasing after you not worth it? I don’t know, but I have other things to worry about right now. Like who the hell has my phone!
