Mixed Feelings

Icon is the biggest boy band in the world. They're even more popular than One Direction at this point. Liza Nelson can't get enough of them, but Erin Frederick absolutely detests the band. What happens after a chance encounter with one of the band members? Erin's life definitely won't ever be the same.

We start off the day by gingerly moving Liza to my bedroom to sleep.  She doesn’t wake up once.  Then Erin and I get bowls of cereal from the kitchenette and settle in to watch our movie.  I let Erin choose, and she pulls Tangled—Jared’s secret favorite—out.

“Can we watch this?” she asks. “If you don’t want to, I can find something else.”

“I said we can do whatever you want to,” I tell her. “So Tangled it is.”

We’re sitting on separate pieces of furniture, but through the entire movie, I feel closer to Erin than I have all weekend.  Which is kind of ridiculous since we’ve been physically and emotionally closer than we are now.  Maybe everything has finally combined to make us into really good friends.  If it’s just now happening, that stinks.  The band leaves in about thirty-six hours to head to our next tour stop.

Our movie is done by a little after nine, and by then the others are straggling out for breakfast.  Liza’s the first, and she acts totally confused.

“I thought I fell asleep on the couch,” she says slowly, rubbing her head.

“You did,” Erin replies, thinking quickly. “But we all thought you’d be more comfortable in the bedroom, so Noah carried you in there last night.”

“Oh,” Liza responds, still scratching her head in confusion.

Erin pats the couch.  “Come sit with me.  Or get some breakfast and then joinme.”

Liza heads into the kitchenette first.  Soon, she’s joined by my band-mates.  Of course Joe’s stuffing his face with whatever he can get his hands on, but Derek, Jared, and Lucas go for scrambled eggs and toast.

While they’re still gathered around the bar stools, I whisper to Erin, “Go get dressed, ‘kay?  We should leave soon.”

She nods and heads off to her room.  I change once she’s done and brush my teeth, but I leave my hair alone and don’t shave.  I saw the way Erin looked at me when I first woke up this morning, after I had mussed up my hair.  I’m definitely not smoothing down that hairstyle.

We’re heading out the door when Joe calls, “Hey, where are you two going?”

Erin looks back.  “I’m going to show Noah around town.  Oh, I’ve fed Dessa, but would someone mind playing with her while I’m gone?  And check her litter box, too.”

“I’ll do it,” Liza volunteers. “And Jared can help me.”

He sticks his tongue out at her, but she just playfully rolls her eyes.  I rest my hand between Erin’s shoulder-blades and guide her down the hall to the elevator.  Finally, I’m going to get proper time alone with Erin Frederick to do whatever we please.
