Bound [Book #1]

They are connected by the fact that they've all died and been brought back.

This is a trilogy. Look for the other two books:

22. Twenty-Two.

“You can't,” I said, shaking my head. “You cannot bring Terry back. That's not possible, for anyone.”

“Yes,” Mira said, “it's possible. But it's risky. You know that he may not come back right, don't you?” She moved her hair from her eyes and watched me.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

She craned her neck to look at Julia, who was sneering. “Hey, J, you better tell that bitch to stop messing with your head.”

Claudia scowled. “Mira, what are you doing?”

I really saw Julia's face for the first time; her eyes were glazed over, like she was seeing through someone else. She wasn't herself. She was someone who was cruel and heartless. This wasn't the Julia I knew. She wasn't the girl who came into my life a short time ago and changed everything.

“I'm trying to help,” Mira replied. “You're letting Jev control you.”

“Jev has nothing to do with this!” Claudia shouted angrily. “I'm in full control of my own life. Why are you even here? You should be with him, kissing his fucking right hand.”

Mira's lip twitched slightly. “You obviously have been away for some time, haven't you? Jev is more devoted to you than anyone.” She glanced down at the fallen, burned man next to Terry's body. “I guess someone pissed this girl off quite a bit,” she said, nodding to me.

“He killed Terry,” I muttered. “He deserved it.”

“Easy,” someone said. “You might want to hold that tongue of yours, girl.” Jev appeared from out of nowhere and stood beside Mira. “What is taking so long, Claudia, darling?”

“She killed Grady,” Claudia screamed, pointing a finger at me. “Can't I just kill her girlfriend now? It's only fair!”

Before I knew what was happening, she knocked Julia out of the way and lunged at me. I could feel my hands begin to tingle and I put them out to strike her. But when her body didn't slam into me, I looked around.

“What the hell?” Claudia hissed. “What did you DO?”

Mira had her eyes closed, her hands together. She had stopped the attack, and had suspended Claudia in mid air.

“Let me down, you bitch!”

Jev reached for Claudia's hand then pulled her down. Then he turned to Mira and slammed his hand into her face. She fell back, howling, her hand going to her nose that gushed with blood.

“Touch her again and I won't hesitate to slit your throat,” he snarled.

With Jev distracted helping Claudia, I crouched down to help Mira. She stared at me through her fingers and nodded. “I'm okay,” she said softly. “Don't let them hurt you. Try and get away. Take Julia and go find Graham.”

My eyes widened. “Do you know where he is?”

“Where we met,” she said. “But be careful. Jev's demons are guarding it. You'll be able to see them. They're not allowed to hurt anyone until he gets back, so you'll be safe but you have to hurry.”

I nodded, stood, whirled around and grabbed Julia's arm. This time she didn't fight me. She was still nursing her wounds. She looked at me, her eyes full of tears.

“Vivian?” she said weakly. “What's going on?”

“Come on,” I told her. “We have to go.” I pulled her up.

And we ran.
