Bound [Book #1]

They are connected by the fact that they've all died and been brought back.

This is a trilogy. Look for the other two books:

4. Four.

“You're lying.”

It was all I could think to say to him after he finished telling me what happened. I couldn't even remember myself, so how the hell did he know? He'd just gotten there when I –

I shook my head.

Graham smiled. “You just keep thinking that. But it's true.” He reached over and tapped my finger. “Grab my hand.”

I blinked and raised an eyebrow. “Why?”

He sighed in frustration. “You're very difficult, you know? Just grab my goddamned hand.”

I rolled my eyes and twined my fingers with his. His skin was warm against mine.

“Concentrate,” he told me.

I closed my eyes.

Almost immediately, images flashed across my mind: Graham at six, holding the handlebars of a bike. Graham at ten, watching his father pull out of their driveway. Graham at sixteen, being passed a joint, a skeptical look on his face. And, presently, his face seeing my own as sirens wailed in the distance.

I let go of his hand.

“Oh,” I said, running my hands through my hair. “Wow. That was unreal.” I tried to steady my breathing. “What was that?”

Graham's lips twitched. “That was all you, Vi.”

“How did you know I-”

“Because I know what it's like to die, then discover you came back with more than you left with,” Graham said softly. “At least this is what I gained from it.”

“Wait a minute.”

He watched the wheels turn in my brain, then he nodded.

“You died? When?”

“Last year,” he said. “And I think that when you're unconscious or close to death, that's when the power can get to you. Your mind is weak, vulnerable.”

“I'm sorry,” I whispered.

He shook his head. “It's alright. At least I'm here now. It feels amazing to not be normal anymore. You'll see what I mean when you can access your power more frequently.”

“This is so weird,” I said, shaking my head.

“You still should go talk to Dr. Mitchell,” Graham said. “You need to come with me.”

“You keep saying that,” I muttered. “Why is it so important that I come with you, a guy I barely know?”

Graham's voice dropped to a whisper, his eyes searching around us suddenly, like he as afraid someone would overhear.

“I have to keep you safe. They're coming for you.”
