How the Hunger Games Started

This is about a time before the hunger games. This is how the hunger games started. It is different to how the book says.

24. The End of One Journey, The Start of Another

I wake up like I did the last time I was close to death, but this time I am in a white room. The brightness stings my eyes and I take a moment to adjust to the lighting. I remember Adam being announced as the victor, but nothing after that. I look down at my stomach. The knife is gone and I am dressed in a white gown. A door at the end of the room slides open and Adam appears, his face tainted by worry.

"Will she live?" I hear him ask. I want to shout out, but I can't, I still feel too weak to talk.

"She will Adam, but she will be haunted by the memories of that arena, you have to keep her strong, and stay with her." A person I assume is a doctor replies.

"Aria?" he whispers, before kissing my forehead.

I open my eyes and give him a small smile.

"What happened?" I whisper.

"I killed them, all at once. They threatened to kill you, and it really made me mad."

"I...I killed..."

"I know Aria, but it's okay."

I gently sit up despite the pain in doing so.

"Careful." He puts his arms around my shoulders.

"I love you Adam, and I only realized how strongly I love you when I was alone in there."

He smiles. "It's over now at least, and we can be together." He holds out his hand and I take them as I start to stand. I force myself to put one foot in front of the other and walk towards the door.

"This is it" He says, pressing numbers on the key pad by the door.

He turns to face me and looks straight into my eyes.

"Just promise me one thing, because I know you are excellent at keeping promises."

I smile. "At least I try to keep them."

"Anything that happened in that arena stays in this room. We can't talk about it, I don't want you to get hurt." he says seriously.

"I promise, just as long as you are there to remind me every day, promise me that."

"Now that is a promise I will have no trouble keeping." Then he slips his arms around my waist, just like he did before the games and kisses me, like he never wants to let me go. And this time I feel complete. My family are gone, and I have killed, those things are wrong. But now when I kiss him I am certain that this is right.
