How the Hunger Games Started

This is about a time before the hunger games. This is how the hunger games started. It is different to how the book says.

17. Not Dying

I can feel someone on either side of me as I start to wake up.

I open my mouth to say something but I feel Adam's hand cover the words.

"Shhhh!" He whispers.

I open my eyes wide, wondering what is going on. I hear the crunching leaves under their boots. Unable to say a word I try to get up but another hand pushes me back to the floor. It is too late however, they have already seen us.

"Please, go hunt somebody else." Adam pleads. Both tributes from District 6 and 7 tower over us, wielding two knives each. They hold them above us in a threatening way. The boy from 6 walks to Adam and pushes him up against the trunk of the tree holding the knife to his throat.

"No!" I manage to call out.

"Give us one good reason why we shouldn't just kill you all now."

I force my legs to hold my weight as I rise. The boy from 7 pushes me against the tree even though they know I am no threat to them. The blade of the knife is cool against my skin.

"Wait!" Adam calls out. "No, you shouldn't kill us because..." he says searching for a good answer. "Freya, why shouldn't they kill us?"

"Freya?" I look down to the ground where Freya sits. "What are you...?"

"Leave the reunions for another time!" the boy from 7 says pushing the blade harder against my neck. "Give us a reason!"

"We just want the chance to say goodbye, we are no threat to you, we have no weapons, we are as good as dead already!" Freya says, she speaks the truth.

"Now if you want to really kill an enemy, I can show you where District 12 and 5 tributes are hiding.

The boys grip on the knife loosens a little and he nods to his friends.

"Okay" He says looking into my eyes. "But remember, you cross us, and you're dead."

He has seen the rip in my top and the wound underneath."And you.." He grabs my side. "Don't expect to survive much longer with this!"

The pain is unbearable. I pull away from his grasp and sink to the floor shouting for Adam. He pushes the boy from 6 away and rushes to my side.

"It's okay, you're fine." He strokes my cheek. "You're fine, but so stupid!"

I frown. "At least I tried to keep my promise."

"At least Freya was here to help us, or we'd both be dead." He says rubbing the back of his head, the place where I had hit him.
