How the Hunger Games Started

This is about a time before the hunger games. This is how the hunger games started. It is different to how the book says.

22. An Attack

All stays silent. It seems like hours before I pluck up the courage to walk around. I feel like Adam is the only one who can protect me. I imagine his arms around me, and find comfort in his memory.

No canon has sounded yet, and that gives me something to hang onto, but in another way I feel disappointed that he hasn't killed them yet. Every hour that he spends away from me, is another hour in which I sit, frozen.

Suddenly, the rustling of leaves catches my attention. It must be Adam, I tell myself over and over again.

"Adam." I whisper, barely letting out any sound.

I peer around the tree and come face to face with the boy I thought was dead, the one I thought Freya had killed.

Theo stands above me, holding a long spear.

"Aria, we meet again."

A long cut runs down his cheek and another on his forehead.

"She tried to kill me, your friend!" he shouts pointing to his injuries. "But I'm too clever, I killed her instead."

I feel rage start to ignite within me, like a fire.

"You killed Freya?" I ask, my body shaking.

"Yes, and I wouldn't hesitate to do the same with you."

I quickly place my knife in the waistband of my trousers, and raise my hands defensively.

"I don't want to fight, please Theo." I can feel my hands shaking, and worry about how silly I look to him.

"I never wanted this you know." he lowers the spear a little. "I wanted to be good, not commit any crimes, but I was too hungry."

"I know how you feel."

"No, you don't!" He raises the spear again and presses the end of the blade to my stomach.

"Please." I am begging with him know.

"Don't worry i'll make it quick." He throws the spear aside and pulls out a larger knife from his pocket, the blade shines in the moonlight. "I'll show you some mercy."
