I Know You're There: Malevolent Innocence

*Conclusion to the I Know You're There trilogy* Reuben's dead. Never to return. Tori doesn't grieve, she gets on with her life. In fact, her and Damien's wedding is coming up. Sure, she loves him, but not like she loved Reuben. Everything's fine; absolutely fine. Despite the fact she cries herself to sleep, and prays for Reuben to come back every moment, everything's fine. What am I saying? It's Tori Hills, nothing's going to be fine, especially when she's about to devote her life to the wrong guy. 'I swear, if mine and Reuben's love was fire, we'd be nothing, but ash.'

16. 'People are out to get you.'

My jaw hit the floor, and Reuben slapped his hand over his mouth, in a mixture of shock, and trying to stop himself from laughing. It wasn't funny! Damien loved Reuben! My Dad and Ollie stood stock still, gaping at Damien, more or less in the same way I was.

"You-You're gay?" I stammered, staring at him in utter disbelief.

"Yes - no - I don't know!" he threw his hands in the air in surrender, looking at me pleadingly.

"What do you mean, you don't know?" Reuben asked, trying his best to keep his game face on.

"I just - I don't!" Damien responded, his face flushing, beads of sweat developing on his forehead.

"You really have a lot of explaining to do," I told him, still wide eyed.

In utter silence, I drove us back to Drake's apartment. Reuben was practically paralysed, and couldn't concentrate enough to drive. It was fair enough, I was still slightly shaken up. When you find out the man you were going to marry isn't even interested in women, well, it's a bit weird. Just a bit.

So, Damien had explained. My Mum still hadn't come home, and I couldn't hang around forever, so I told them I'd come back the next day. Everyone, except for Reuben, was reluctant to let me go again, in case I decided to disappear, but in the end, they gave in. Yeah, Damien's explanation...

He was homosexual, and he was in love with Reuben. In my view, he went a bit psychotic, and got Jason (Reuben's brother) killed, because Damien was getting a bit possessive. He then took Drake, Raven, and Shane out of the picture, by giving Reuben the idea to run away with me. I had brought it up first, in the car, after Reuben came back the first time, but Reuben was going to 'suggest' it anyway. It also just so happened that Brighton was the place to go. A little bit too coincidental for my taste, but you know.

Anyway, when the Angel kidnappers managed to get Reuben, they were meant to get me, as Damien had broadcasted my location. He thought it was the easiest way to 'dispose' of me, but the tables turned when Reuben was taken. And then, he thought that being with me would be close to being with Reuben, because I was the closest to him. Does it make sense? Slightly.

"Where the hell have you been?!" Drake demanded, as I walked in, Reuben close behind me.

"Home," I simply replied.

"I told you, you're not going out, without me, and your curfew was half an hour ago!" he yelled, looking worried sick.

"Alright, Dad," I grinned, trying to get him to relax a bit.

"Tori," he warned, "People are out to get you," he sternly told me, and I froze.

"W-What?" I frowned, goose bumps rising over my shoulders.

"Reuben! You haven't told her?!" Drake whined, his arms falling limply to his sides.

"Uhh... No?" Reuben shrugged his shoulders slightly, looking guilty.

"Ugh," Drake dramatically sagged his shoulders, "In the 'Angel' world, as we'll call it, you're probably the most wanted person, by the kidnappers," he quickly said.

Again, my jaw hit the floor. What. Even. Damien's gay, I'm wanted, Drake's practically my Dad... Breathe. No, I couldn't. I couldn't breathe.

Why couldn't I breathe?

My chest constricted, and my lungs couldn't fill. I wheezed, and started violently coughing, to try and get some air into me. Desperately, I clutched at the air, as if it would help get it to my lungs. Black spots danced before my eyes, blotting out the familiar faces of Reuben and Drake. Both of them were panicking, as I, myself, suffered a panic attack.

Everything sounded like I was underwater, and I couldn't hear the instructions Reuben was trying to yell at me. I felt the floor come into contact with my knees, and I doubled over, pounding the floor with my fist. I needed air, and fast. Someone's soft grip pulled me away from the floor, and into their lap. Judging by the sweet scent of cinnamon, it was Reuben, and he brushed my hair out of my eyes, telling me to do something.

It didn't matter. Everything was black.

I know I took forever with this update, but I love reading your comments. Best one: Damn it, Teri. Just update.

So yeah, sorry if you thought Damien was a good guy, and they he was heterosexual... But... He's not. :D
