Happy Days

After Lindsey and her boyfriend move in together, she becomes worried that she isn't happy. But can she remember the good days to remind her why she agreed?

16. Unbroken Promises

I woke up and everyone was scattered amongst the living room, asleep in the places they were that night. I opened my eyes and realized it was early, maybe even too early.

"Niall, wake up," I nudged my boyfriend behind me until his eyes fluttered open, bright blue eyes staring at me. "Were going for a car ride, go get ready and I'll wake everyone up."

Car ride?, I asked myself. Maybe this was the surprise Niall told me about last night. "Lindsey, we're heading out to Liverpool at eight where my family is meeting up with us, so we should be there around noon. It's about a four hour drive, if you don't mind." Niall had his arms around my waist and fiddled with my hand. "You still have that ring I gave you?" He whispered against my neck. "Of course, why wouldn't I?" I smiled and turned my head to face his, our noses bumping into each other. "Wear it today, please. I'd love to show it to whoever is going to be over tonight. Liam took Bella off to wherever for the night, and I think Zayn, Lou, and Harry are leaving too. So, maybe we could head out early."

I slipped out of his grip and dressed in something decent. Meeting him out by the front door, I suggested we took my car and I wanted to drive. The four boys followed me out and we said goodbye to Zayn, Harry, and Louis. Zayn pulled out a cigarette and lit it, and I thought I was going to choke on the cloud of smoke it created. Harry had everyone inside his car, and they pulled out of the drive. "Peace at last," I said under my breath, and by the signs of it Niall heard me, him smiling.

We got in the car and Niall pointed the highways we needed to take, and he took my hand in his. "You know I love you, right? I really do. And I want you to be happy with me. I don't want to see you hurt." I nodded and looked at the road, trying to not make eye contact with the boy next to me. "That's all I wanted, was for you to be happy. I can't imagine loosing you now, you mean a lot to me." He was being really cute, and I felt my throat go dry and everything inside of me get really warm and fuzzy. "When I wasn't with you, while I was away, I couldn't stop thinking about you. I would think about how much better it would have been to have you laying in my arms making me feel like the best boyfriend ever." I looked over to him and opened my mouth, but he shook his head. "I'm not done. I want you to know something. You're the first person I've loved like this, someone who's needs I've put before my own. And I want to make you happy, and be the reason you smile. That's what love is, right? To love someone so much where even the thought of them sends butterflies everywhere, and all you want to do is hold them close and never let them go?"

I smiled and stopped the car at a stop sign, looking behind and making sure nobody came behind. I unbuckled my seat belt and leaned over so I was inches away from him and kissed him. It wasn't like the normal kisses. It was one of those nobody would talk about, a secret kiss that held meaning and drove you insane, absolutely craving for more.  It was a kiss that reminded me why made me happy, and he knew it too.

"Let's keep on driving, we're holding back traffic," I looked back and saw two cars behind us, and agreed to continue to drive. We weren't on a main road, and I was glad about that. I never left London alone for a car ride, and I guess I wasn't alone either. It was nice though. "I'm glad you could come with me," Niall said, looking over to me. "I was scared you wouldn't want to." I shook my head and frowned. "Of course I would want to come. I don't know why you would say that." I sighed and took his hand, and waited for him to continue talking. "I thought you wouldn't want to come after I asked you to bring the ring. I don't know, something in the back of my head kept on telling me it was pushy when I knew you hadn't been wearing it. It kind of worried me, that you were planning on leaving me. I didn't want to loose you. And that was my motivation when I came home. To prove that when I promised you I'd keep you safe forever I meant it. That's why I gave you the ring in the first place. I wanted to promise I would never leave you, ever. No matter how hard it would get, I would never let you go, and I'd make sure you felt loved."

That's when I remembered why I agreed to move in. He kept me safe and made me truly happy. I looked over to him again and smiled. "Hey Niall, you want to know something?" He nodded in curiosity. "I love you more."
