What He Doesn't Know

Audrey was Liam's best friend. His protector. His "sister". His bodygaurd. And he was hers. They did everything together. Until the ninth grade. They drifted apart, found new friends. But, they haven't talked since. Until now. 7 years later. A lot can happen in 7 years. Scars can emerge, tears can be shed, memories can develop. But it's worse for all when the only one you love has no idea what you've been through.

7. Night

Audrey's POV:

I've never seen a man eat so much food in one sitting. Liam shares his food but he eats so much more than I do. We chew and speak to each other over the music playing in the background. We mainly talk about his success, seeing as my life isn't as exciting. I'm just asking him about his new album- Take Me Home- when What Makes You Beautiful comes on. I laugh, as does he, and he says "What are the odds?" to which I reply, "That's a tell-tale sign you are famous!" He mutters "indeed..." and pulls his iPhone out of his pocket. He begins to type, and I pull the phone down onto the table in order to read what he's typing. He's tweeting. I read:

@ Nandos eating dinner when WMYB comes on... #aca-awkward #famouspeopleprobs

I laugh. "Pitch Perfect?" I ask with a grin. "It's a quality movie!" he replies. I laugh. He puts his phone back into his pocket ignoring the flashes of notifications.

He looks at me for awhile in silence and I refuse to break it, but choose to steal a chicken wing instead. I eat it, and wait while he calls over the waiter to bring our check. At this, I pull my credit from my purse and make ready to pay. He sees this but refuses to let me pay. He grabs my hand, plops his (excuse me, Niall's) snap back onto my head and tugs me out into the dark London night. We walk hand in hand. It's cold and after a while, I begin to shiver. He feels my vibrations through my hand and drapes his jacket over my shoulders. I smile gratefully. He leads me into a quiet, street corner Starbucks and we each order a hot chocolate. Of course, he doesn't let me pay. We take our drinks and walk to the back where we each grab a seat in big, armchairs by the fire. He takes out his phone to check the time (10:42) and redials Niall's number, seeing that  he's called 5 times. Speakerphone is turned on and the phone set on the table in between the two of us.

"YOU WENT TO NANDO'S WITHOUT ME?!" Niall whines into the phone. I laugh. "Who's that?" Niall says interestingly.

"It's Audrey, Liam's friend." I reply smiling. I'm talking to Niall Horan!

"Oh hi Audrey! Sorry if Liam is too much of a party pooper for you, apparently hes the 'mature' one in the band." Niall laughs, poking fun at Liam.

"Haha, nah he's alright!"

"Good. So what's up Liam?"

"Nothing much, but yes we did go to Nando's without you, what have you been up to?" Liam asks.

"Harry and I rented a movie and ordered pizza. What are you two up to other than Nando's without me?"

"We ate, now were at Starbucks."

"Oh, Lou and El went out for Starbucks, see them?"

"Nah, they must be at another one. Were at one of the small ones."

"Probably. Zayn and Perrie went out for a movie, I think. Will you be back soon?" Niall seems worried about being alone with Harry for much longer, I wonder why. Then I remember, Harry's known as the "womanizer" in the band. However, how Liam described him it seems that he is actually really caring and nothing like the press portrays him as.

"Yup. See you."

"See you." They disconnect.

"I guess we'd better go now." Liam says with a half smile. We reassemble our disguises and walk out clutching our hot chocolates. Hand in hand we walk through London, back over the bridge, back behind our buildings. Liam walks me up and lets me in. I hang up my jacket, take off my boots, and someone hugs me from behind. "Good Night, Babe." is whispered in my ear and I smile. "Night LiLi" i reply and we part. I realize I still have Niall's hat once I see Liam is safely in his building.
